LOL!! I don't believe we will have to actually exchange a baton (I think that's what they're called??) But now that you mention it, I think there is something we have to exchange, the timing device maybe?? We have so much to learn!

I was going to say baton, but wasn't sure that was the right word. I need something in my signature to show I'm doing the relay!

I updated my sig! :goodvibes Gotta get the boys from the bus stop and start the craziest part of my day now! :scared1:

Hi Everyone!

First let me thank everyone for the FaceBook connections - it is so nice to be able to put faces with names. You all have been so welcoming around here and I really appreciate it!

So I haven't been back outside yet, but I still continue to spend a lot of time of my TM. My neighborhood is a bit hilly so when I walk/run outside I usually go to the local park. The problem is that we've been getting a lot of rain lately and it is very muddy. This is the same place I also plan to run my 5K in a few weeks. If you want, you can check it out here. It has an interesting history in that it used to be owned by the Macy family (as in Macy's Department Store) and the King of Morocco. http://www.somersetcountyparks.org/parksfacilities/natirar/Natirar.html

I have kinda veered away from my formal C25K training plan. Don't know if that's a good thing or not, but when I go on the TM I try to increase my speed/incline just a little bit every time. I am finding that I can go longer and longer without feeling winded BUT I feel like I should be making better progress with my time. I guess I just need to be patient with myself and realize I am 42, not 22. Anyhow, I have been curious as to what is considered a good time for a 5K? Keep in mind this is my first race EVER EVER EVER.

Laura - love the blog. Read it today while I was eating my lunch. I would love to find a group of friends to run the Princess with me next year. I do have a few friends who run, but not sure they would splurge on the airfare, hotel, etc. Hmmmm, better start recruiting soon.

Liz & Carissa - So happy to hear you are doing the relay!!!

Take care everyone. The news on TV lately is getting me down. So glad I have The Dis to keep my spirits lifted! ;)

Carissa and I are doing the marathon relay!!! :woohoo::yay: Now we have to learn the ins and outs of a relay!

You are talking about W&D? Cool! I think you have to exchange something, but don't know what. So, who is doing the long leg?

Thanks for the visa info, Iwill check that out.

Robyn - I think it's totally an individual thing on what a "good" 5k time is. But, if I had to pick a number I'd say anything under 30 minutes is pretty decent. I'll qualify that by saying that my first 5k time was 38 minutes. ;) Not sure I'll ever get under a 30 minute 5k finish, but it's one of my goals. As everyone told me when I was getting ready to run my first race - don't worry about your time. Just enjoy the moment and get a feel for how races work. Your first race will always be a PR anyway! You can work on getting faster with each race you do. It's about beating your own time - not going a certain speed. :thumbsup2

I finished C25K, but I don't think I've run for more than 5 minutes straight since then. I much prefer intervals. But, another goal of mine is to try and run 30 minutes straight again at some point.

No, we're doing the Marathon Relay in January. :thumbsup2 You gonna be up for another ride on ToT with me? ;)

Vic, great pictures! I read up on the race on nhra.com, and followed the qualifying. Can't wait for June and Englishtown. For your first time back in a while, I guess ou are looking forward to next year already! Have you ever been to Garlits' museum? I have been a few times, and it is pretty cool. Funny comment, Rene, but it is more than testosterone, there is a lot of nitro and rubber thrown in......

We're talking about going back next year. It will be hard to beat this year though. Great weather, great seats and great weather. Nothing like good ol american horsepower, and the smell of Nitro! Been to Garlits' museum once. I'd like to go through it again, and since we pass it every trip to the World I'm sure we will.

Have fun at Englishtown.

Hey . . . I used to live and work around there. I was an assistant principal in Bernards Township for about 5 years quite some time ago. Where do you live? No sure if we are "friends" on FB yet: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344172057

Hi Laura,

Yes we are connected on FB. I live in Peapack-Gladstone... well, technically Gladstone. Near Gill-St. Bernards school. Do you know where that is? Where did you live when you were here? Small world!!!

Robyn

Robyn

Let's see . . . I was a teacher in Westfield and lived in North Plainfield. Then, I moved to Hillsborough and taught there for a couple of years before taking the assistant principal gig in Bernards. Then we moved "out west" to Washington Township and I later became principal in Clinton Township. I absolutely know where Peapack-Gladstone is. What a beautiful area!

Now, I live near the beach in Delaware. Escaped the taxes . . .

Robyn - You're doing the right things. Just slowly add a little more to each run/walk. More distance, more time, more speed. Don't push it, or you'll injure yourself. I promise, you will. We've all tried it. Your body has limits. Don't try to do what a 22 year old can do. Maybe what a 32 year old can do, but no younger than that. ;) Pretty soon, it'll all get easier and faster and you're off to the races! Literally.

Liz - I have total respect for you! I don't think I could do two half marathons back-to-back on successive days like you're planning on doing in January. Kudos! The good part is now, I get to meet Carissa!

And the Goofy Challenge?!? That's just, well, goofy!

Augie - Glad to hear you're in for the W&D again. I'll be doing both the W&D again and the January Half for the first time in 2012. Maybe I can join you and Carissa on the ToT? :scared1:

Okay, back to packing, so I can get out of Canada in 10 days. :yay:

:cool1: :cool1: I think there's going to be quite a few of us there so we'll definitely have to plan something.

Liz - No my niece isn't going to be running the race. I don't think running is her thing right now. She's a week away from 14 so for her getting up early in the morning (talking earlier than 9) would be too much. LOL At first I was upset but I am fine with it now. Its just not her thing and I respect that. I know they will be there cheering for me just the same. My sister wanted me to only run the half so we can do the parks on Sunday earlier than normal but there is just something about Goofy I have to do. Actually I found that the last 2 years I did the Goofy were easier than my first full in 2009. Maybe it was just that I knew what to expect.

Looks like 2012 is going to be a GREAT year for Marathon weekend for the Ducks

Carissa and I are officially registered for the relay now! woohoo! Our team name is: WISH MOBS. MOBS stands for Moms Of BoyS! :)

Robyn~That park is beautiful! When it comes to doing a race there, I'm not sure I like the sound of "scenic hills" though.. lol ;) That is an interesting history too. Kinda strange that the King of Morocco ended up with it for awhile?!

I agree with what the others said! A good time for a 5K is whatever it takes you to do it in! ;) I remember when I first started running my 5K times were in the low 40's. When I did my first official 5K my time was 28 minutes. However, I have never run a 5K that fast again! LOL I have done them (unofficially) in around 30 minutes. My two friends who did the C25K last fall, and are both in their early 40's, ran their first 5K in December in 34min.

Renee~Of course you could do two halfs back to back! You are a better runner than I am! :) It's nice that you have respect for me, but maybe hold onto it until I actually complete them. LOL I know my times will not be fast too. I'm thinking over 3 hrs for one, and maybe just under 3 hrs for the other!

Tricia~Yeah, I can understand a 13/14 yr old not wanting to do that! I imagine it's nice that you can focus 100% on you and your Goofy racing though. :)

Are you doing the half also? I have to agree with Renee, don't think I could do two back to back. This year I barely recovered to do a 10 miler a week after the Half. But ToT I can do!

I saw from your pics that you had great seats.

Maybe I can join you and Carissa on the ToT? :scared1:

And don't forget RnR....

I didn't see this until Augie quoted you. The more the merrier on ToT! Have you been on it before?

Wait a minute. I wasn't ready! I changed my mind! :scared1:

Just kiddin'.

Oh no freakin' way! I can barely manage one half! :rotfl:

And yay for ToT! :cool1:

And don't forget RnR....

You can count me out for that one. I don't need another picture of myself on that ride. :rolleyes1

Okay, I must admit, I keep thinking about doing that relay on Sunday, too, because I'm getting a bit "bling-greedy" (is that a word?!?). But I'm not sure who would do it with me....hhhmmm...wonder if there's a willing duck in the pond...:rolleyes1

See? I told y'all this move to Houston was gonna cost me BIG time in Disney races!

And don't forget RnR....

I'm in the front seat of the limo! You can ride shotgun with me, Augie! :hippie:

I didn't see this until Augie quoted you. The more the merrier on ToT! Have you been on it before?

Oh yes! One of my favorites. With my hands in the air. Screaming the whole time...sigh. Can't wait!

This duck would consider being the Chip to your Dale, but not ready to commit yet. Debating if I would rather do the Princess...and now there is speculation of a new race in the spring?!!! Too many rundisney choices!!!!!

Congrats to Liz and Carissa for signing up for the relay - sounds like fun. I am sure there will be a trip report to follow. Cute name for your team.

I will hopefully be able to meet everyone for a ride on TOT and RNR I love both those rides. I could do RNR over and over and over....
