Doing Universal from a Disney Resort

In the summer time, Universal generally opens the gates to both its parks up to a 1/2 hour before the stated 9:00 opening time. If you can be at the gates by 8:30 you can beat both the crowds and the heat. Did it at the end of July last year and didn't hardly wait in lines at all at either park. At Universal, make sure you go to Shrek first. I'd love to stay onsite at Universal, but summertime rates even with passholder disc. are way too rich for my blood :goodvibes .

I have heard nothing but good about Universal's resorts. The FotL would sell me. And when they mean FotL, Universal means it. No wait.
We have PAPs at USO too. I have beenlooking at their site since we have out of state visitors coming next month.
They are offering ON LINE exclusive deals. So be sure to look! This I thought is a good deal.

I love Disney, but USO is a good time too. And I love a good deal! ;)

I would use either a transport or rent a car for one day. That is what DH and I did on our honeymoon. It worked fine for us.

the people on this board are great! My June holiday is looking so good thanks to this board :)

FOTL sounds *amazing* and yet at the prices the universal hotels are charging, *ouch* that's a lot of cash for the fotl privilege. I need to talk to DH again (i.e. shock him yet again with *another* holiday cost :rotfl: ) and who knows, if I keep checking and researching and rummaging I might find a decent rate for that one night at universal!

Thanks again. :)

If you stay at Disney but visit Universal, arranging for transportation is your best bet. I was staying at the Contemporary but had to pick-up some items from a Universal hotel for work. It cost me $35 each way in taxi fees!

We did 2 days at US while staying at POP. We had a rental car, so trans. wasn't a problem. Went during on off season, so FOTL wasn't a neccesity. As others have said, the MOST important thing if not staying at US hotel is to arrive early, like 8-8:30 am. We did this and were able to ride with no waits. It picks up considerably after 12pm.
Oh, and purchase tixs before you go so you don't waste time buying at the park.

We 're staying at Disney and using Tiffany Town Car to go to Universal for the day...I don't know if that is the best way to go cost-wise, but we are not renting a car this trip and from what I understand Mears can take a while if different resort stops are included??

The park itself seemed like a Six flags park. It had no character or special appeal that WDW has for us.

I know everyone has there own tastes, but Universal wasn't for us.

Muffycat, I couldn't disagree more. I truly notice absolutely no difference between Disney and Universal Parks. Both are clean, with friendly staff and great rides. Both US and IOA are also very well themed throughout. I haven't been to Six Flags in a while, but Universal is nothing like I remember Six Flags. You're right about the characters. There are a lot less at Universal.

Like you said, everyone has there own personal tastes. Disney will always be our first love. But, these days, we find it hard to visit the World without spending some time on-site at Universal.
