Doin it in Style @ The Poly! September 2010 Here we Come!!!

Hey ladies, wonder if you can help me.

I have decided to purchase some Haviana Flip Flops beforehand for our upcoming trip. But what I would like to know can I find Havianas in Orlando.

TIA :)

Hi Stefy - I'm not sure about where to buy them in Orlando (think my cousin got some in Blizzard Beach actually!) - but I got mine from office.co.uk ... they do a 'fit' style as well now, I guess it's a bit like a fit-flop?
I love my havainas and wouldn't wear anything else in the theme parks now! :goodvibes

Also - I've bought the Birnbaum DCL 2010 book, I found it really good (even if 'my' ship the Dream isn't in it yet!) but I don't have the Passporter one so can't compare :P - like the WDW Birnbaum one, it's nice to have the 'official' book for pictures etc - but often the unofficial guides have a bit more detail in them and will have the good & the bad points to think about!

I've been too busy to Dis lately :sad1:, but just got caught back up! Yes, you will definitely be able to find Havianas in Orlando - there are probably even stores in the airport that carry them. The Gap in the US sells them, so it might be worth checking there to see if you can get them at home. But definitely tons of stores in the US have them, so you won't have a problem finding them here. :thumbsup2

And loved all those DLP pictures - looks like you guys had a great trip there! :goodvibes

Welcome back :goodvibes

Thanx for the info, hopefully I will find some on our shopping trip when we go.

DLP was a great trip and our first taste of Disney :)

I bought both Passporter and Birnbaums for DCL and the passporter was WAY better! Will they not ship to the UK from the passporter website? It looks like they are taking pre-orders right now from what I see on the site.

If you really want it, I wouldn't mind ordering it and shipping it to you, if they won't ship it to you....just let me know.

Thanx, thats really kind of you :goodvibes Might try and order it from Amazon US site, see how much that will cost me, or see if the Passporters website would be cheaper.

Stefy, you can order from the Amazon.com site as well - it might take a little longer but if they have it - order it there.
Birnbaum's is "a waste of money" in my opinion and I was a dedicated follower of Birnbaum's once - before I found the DIS!!! :lmao:
There is lots of info on the Cruise boards here - let me know what you are looking for and I'll pm you the link!

One thing I am wondering now is should I order this years one? Will it have info about the Dream do you think?

Will defo PM you when we are ready to start planning as we have loads of questions :teeth:

Thanx for the link. I do like the look of the fit ones. Might have to find a way to have a sneaky shop at Westfield :teeth:

Thanx for the info on the Birnbaum book. Might try the Passporter one first though as it was recommended by alot of Disers :thumbsup2

Hey everyone, Hows it going? Hope you all had a great weekend :)

Stefy will post at some point but she has been busy with work and rather tired in the evenings and hasn't been able to DIS properly. Until she posts back, I was just wanting to know everyones touring strategy for when they hit the parks. Do you run to Dumbo first or go pick up that fastpass at Big Thunder? Just curious to see how it varies from person to person.

We are still deciding on how we should do it all. Our first trip went very very well and we were first timers at WDW which is unusual. Our second trip wasn't bad but could have been a whole load better. If you wouldnt mind sharing, I would love to hear what you guys would do :)

Dave

We always have to do the "Dumbo Dash" once a trip, but I'm looking forward to the day that we can skip it. Last year on our 2nd MK day we headed over to BTMRR and walked right on. We could have just walked on a second time or we could have walked right on Splash Mountain as well, but my kids didn't want to. Instead we went and picked up Peter Pan FP and did Fantasyland.

Hey guys, sorry for the absence. Am hoping to do a few posts soon though :)

Jenny, is Dumbo always busy throughout the day? Never really noticed myself TBH as have never thought about riding it.

Dumbo always has a pretty long line. It's because it is such a slow loader it never gets caught up. The only time I've seen it without much of a line besides rope drop was at the Pirate and Princess Party.

Hi!

Our 'touring strategy' for MK is usually to head to a 'mountain' first & get a FP.. e.g. - go to Tomorrowland, get a FP for Space Mountain, then do Buzz Lightyear, TTA, Stitch, Monsters Inc etc til it's our time.. then work around the park counter-clockwise.. using FP as much as possible!

Dumbo & Peter Pan's Flight often have the longest lines of MK - so another strategy is to go straight to Fantasyland and do all those rides first.

Or.. when I did Keys to Kingdom tour last December, our guide recommended starting in Adventureland and going clockwise around the park from there... human nature apparently makes most of us choose to go right rather than left... I think DF & I will try out this theory on our next trip!!
(It's definitely true in the queue lines.. like Tower of Terror - nearly everyone turns right when the queue line splits into two.. but the left lane is shorter! :confused3)

Not sure if you guys have the 'unofficial guide to WDW' - it's a hugebook but very informative - and by buying it you get a free year's subscription to the website touringplans.com - which has loads of suggested 'strategies' for touring around the World :wizard:

We like to do both. We usually do the mountains and other headliners the first time we make it to the MK. Then we'll usually have a day later in the trip where we get to MK for an early morning breakfast (or opening) and on that day, we'll make sure to bang out Fantasyland first thing, then move on to the rest.

I don't think I will be of much help here. It all depends on what we are trying to get done that day as to where we will begin. I have heard to hit Fantasyland up right away (at rope drop) or head there mid afternoon as many children may have fell apart by the time and left for a nap. Another idea, is maybe to hit these up during MNSSHP. Or, just make a small list of things to accomplish each day in MK (since you are visiting for a long period of time) and that way if you get anything extra done, it is just a plus.

We have two guides, the Brits one and the one by Bob Selingher. I didn't know that one of them gives you a years subscrip to TP, must check that out. Thanx :goodvibes

I have read in the Brits Guide about going counter rather than clockwise. It recommends you do that for Epcot WS too.

We like to do both. We usually do the mountains and other headliners the first time we make it to the MK. Makes sense for both plans. I like the idea of hitting up FL if we have an early park breakfast :)

FL first is a good idea, last trip think we did everything in a couple of hours with one FP for Pooh Bear.

Was debating on whether I should post day by day plans, but I think I will now. See what you guys think and if you do anything similar yourselves :)

Thanks for the replies, it's really interesting to see how different peoples views are. Also quite funny that different guide books always say different things! I guess there s no right or wrong way at Disney ;)

I was thinking about grabbing a fast pass for one of the mountains (Probably Splash or Big Thunder) and then doing some fantasy land rides because Stefy has gotta get her Pooh Bear fix and I have to ride Philharmagic very soon after park opening :goodvibes We are going to try and stay until 4pm that day as it's a party day so I hope we can fit in plenty of rides but also some sit down time with dole whips and various snacks and goodies ;) Though not too many, as we will be eating at Cali Grill that night!

Now hopefully this doesn't sound confusing but I recently read something about Fast Pass that confused me. I read that that you can only hold one fast pass every two hours, but I thought you could get a 2nd fast pass 1hr after getting your first one and that you could only hold 2 Fast Passes at any given time. Am I going mad or am I correct when I say that?

I think I am going to have to look up more touring strategies for Hollywood Studios this year. I really want to ride Toy Story Mania, TOT and RNR but not feel like I am being rushed to do so. Heard they have changed the FastPass line system for RNR this year and im not looking forward to it really. I hope they still allow people to get a FP and leave rather than standing in some interactive line area playing guitar hero:confused3

Here is my understanding of the fastpass thing. You can get another fastpass either 2 hours after you got your last one or after the time your last one is good for whichever comes first. So if you get a fastpass for BTTMR at 9:00 that is good for 9:40 then you can get another fastpass at 9:41. But if you pick up a Splash Mountain FP at 11:00 that is good at 2:30 you can get another fastpass at 1:00. Clear as mud?:confused3

Yeah I understand, thanks for clearing that up. It can be a very tricky system to understand completely. Has anyone ever tried that Ridemax program?

Just came off the phone to a very excited Stefy! She has booked two tickets to MNSSHP on October 8th :D

Thanks to DisneyBarbie for the phone number she gave us, the UK offices had no idea bout the dates so she called the US number instead and got them instantly!

Woooo Hoooo!!! That is very exciting! :thumbsup2 Every little thing like that makes it seem more real, doesn't it?

:yay::yay: Yay for tickets! I know that she was looking forward to being able to get them!

I am surprised that the UK number had no idea about the dates. It seems like you get info earlier in the UK than we do here in the states. I'm just happy that she got them! I bet you are both excited!!

I got ours this morning for September 14th. Surprising how easy it was to get through the line and to place the order. We got the AP rate too which will save us some money. :)

We've used Ridemax. The first time I used it was in Disneyland and it was eerie how accurate it was (almost down to the minute). When we used it for Disney World it wasn't quite as accurate, but it really is a helpful tool. You can mess around with different plans and really get a feel for how much you can do in a certain timeframe.

Yeah it's very cool. I think we have hit our 5 month mark now and I just know it is going to seem slow from now onwards :sad1:

Yeah she is rather excited about it all as am I. Glad you got your tickets as well, hoping it isn't a busy night for you crowd wise. Still a shame our paths won't be crossing this year :confused3

Would you recommend it to others then? I am only considering getting it because quite a few of these PTR's are for september/october and it would be a major downer if it got really busy and we werent prepared to deal with higher than expected crowds. From what I gather you just punch in the rides you want to do on different days + the times of your meals and it works out when to go on things and when to grab fast passes etc.....If that is the case how does it know how much time to allow for meals

I'd recommend it. It is something like $20 and when you consider how much you're spending on the entire trip the extra $20 is chump change. And it really can help with the planning. It gives you the options to determine your meal times and you choose how long the break is. It really is quite flexible. And you can play around with it and tweak things here and there and see what it changes. It's actually kind of fun to play with.

Sounds pretty good, what happens if I purchased it this wekeend? Is it like a 1 time use and you have to input the dates you are travelling first or could I buy it now and mess about with different days to get an idea of how it changes due to crowd levels? If it isn't one time use, is it a year license or something?

Thanks for the help by the way :goodvibes I am very bored at work and was browsing for some disney t shirts for men. There really isnt much out there from what I can see, lots of options for ladies but nothing really cool for guys.
