Dogs in grocery stores?

Now i dont want this to turn on people, or a argument at that. Just thought it would be fun to discuss about!

Im a dog lover, I own three myself and I love them so much. I take them with me as much as I can and were I can like petsmart, to parks etc. But today I saw something that made me think..


I was at winn-dixie waiting for my mom to pick me up (i work there) When a woman and her daughter was heading inside. In the buggy, down were you put your grocerys was a small chiucuaha (ha I cant spell!) and they went inside. Now if someone inside stoped them I dont know. I didnt say anything since one im just a part time deli chick, and also i had enough of customer attitudes

But really to me, I wouldnt do that. I just dont find it sanitary to take a dog of any size or animal at that into a food store. Since people put there grocerys in the buggys like meat, produce etc. I know most of people keep there dogs clean but I just though it kind of bothered me.

So what do you all think would it bother if you bought grocies with had once had a dog in it that you dont even know?

I agree. I think that's disgusting and inappropriate. I think if you can't go to the freaking grocery store without your dog, you need to get a life.

Another story if it's a service animal though.

However, the general consensus was that dogs don't belong in grocery stores. I know I wouldn't take my own.

I love my dog dearly, but I'd cringe to see any dog (other than a service dog) in a grocery store.

It's just plain old icky.

But they aren't the only unsanitary things in stores!!! I see (usually men) take bleeding burger and put it in the cart, no bag...then put it on the counter to pay. Now that is unsanitary.

Or people picking their nose then putting their hands back on the carts. EWWW.

yes ew I have to agree! you wont belive the things I see people do when you work in a deli.. humans can be so nasty! most of time it is men doing it

Though I know when I get a buggy I grab those "sanitary wipes" most grocery stores now offer to wipe off the bar on top. I try to if I can place things in the bottom of the buggy that cant really pick up germs cleaing bottles like bleach etc, toilet paper, box of can sodas. (we always wash our soda cans before opending you dont know were its been!

No. Dogs (other than service animals) don't belong in grocery stores. Yuck! (Or clothing stores, or toy stores, or any other type of stores with the exception of pet stores!) Sorry, dogs are animals and animals aren't people - no matter how much you might want them to be or how much you enjoy treating them as such. Leave good old Spot in the car or at home, please!

I would have told the manager about the dog as Winn Dixie has enough problems without having to deal with the Health Department as well.


Today Dh and I were on the Florida Turnpike. We stopped for coffee and there are these booths at all the stops that sell oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, etc.
This little old mad goes up and grabs a piece of an orange, puts it up to his mouth, decides he doesn't want it and puts it back on the plate and grabs another from another plate!
I couldn't contain myself!!! I just blurted out and said "What are you 3?" You don't touch and then put it back!" He just ignored me and continued on his way after grabbing more slices. Sorry but that is disgusting! The girl behind the counter ended up dumping the plate full into the garbage as so many people were standing there watching this idiot.

Stupid jerk. Ya know he KNEW better, he just didn't care.

I do not think dogs should be brought in a lot of places ( Service dogs excluded of course)

But then again I dont think PEOPLE should shop barefoot ewww anywhere there if OTHER PEOPLES FOOD you should wear shoes

I dont believe dogs should be allowed except for service dogs. Ever since small dogs became more fashionable (dog with a matching purse to be carried in) Ive seen them everywhere. Just because its easy for a owner to carry the dog in or slip it in the buggy doesn't mean its right. I never see someone with a large/big dog trying to bring them in the store to shop, why should a little dog be any different.

What about people who are allergic to dogs? The dog could shed or leave dander on something in the store and cause a problem for someone. At a grocery store one shouldn't have to worry about that.

There are some dog friendly places where it is acceptable. My friend likes to take her dog everywhere so we have gone to restraunts, stores, and other places that dogs are just as welcomed. But in a regular grocery store, they just dont belong.

Yea I have to agree, I dont know why people belive since its a small dog its "okay" some small dogs are just as mean or worst then a larger breed.

I will keep my opinions to myself on this one. Just to make it clear, though, I would not bring my dog (even though she is my baby) anywhere that she was not allowed.

Just wanted to tell a "funny" story. There is an older guy in my town. He has a little chihuahua. This dog goes EVERYWHERE with him. I have seen him at the eye doctor's, the grocery store, and a local Italian store. Everytime I see them, the dog is tucked inside the guy's jacket. I must say, though, that this dog is adorable and VERY sweet. I started talking to him one day. His excuse for taking the dog everywhere...when he opens the door to leave his house "the dog runs out and jumps in the car before I can stop him. What am I supposed to do?" My reaction (I didn't say it, though): ITS A CHIHUAHUA!! It weighs what, 5 pounds? LIFT HIM UP AND CARRY HIM BACK INTO THE HOUSE!!!!!

I understand the need for and the law concerning service dogs in grocery stores. However, I was recently in a grocery store and came upon a man with his service dog and cringed! The dog was *extremely* well mannered and sweet but he smelled and even looked dirty. Is the cleanliness of the service dog solely at the discretion of the dog's owner? If so, this man needed some help maintaining his dog.
