Does your office have "fun" days?

The boss at the home office is a huge college basketball fan (Univ. of Kentucky) and we would have a party for the staff and the clients. He would have a contest to design a souvenir mug, and the winner would get some cash. The party started Friday afternoon when the 1st round games were being played.

I've also seen custom Christmas card contests where the winning employee would get some cash. Plus the card was a way for the architect to show off some of their talents. The cards were awesome.

We have a grill and every Friday we have a BBQ (employees bring in their own food)

3 times a year, our entire I.T. department (1000 plus people) are given an afternoon 'celebration" in the company cafeteria, complete with beer and wine. I was shocked the first time I saw it. Can't say it makes us any better or happier. Now if I can only remember not to schedule meetings on those days.

Hey Sheri,

I hope you don't think i'm prying, but can I ask where you work? It seems like a great place to be at (atmosphere wise). I work now at a place that is just filled with boring people...a bunch of yawners here. I guess hospitals need to be serious all the time.

I work in publishing. :)

I suppose hospitals have to have a seriousness about them so patients feel secure. ::yes::

We don't really have anyone who does not work here, come here, except we occasionally have authors come for visits. That's always fun.

I'm just curious, does your office have things like "Crazy Hat Day" or "Hawaiian Shirt day" etc.? Does your workplace do things for employees birthdays? Do you have holiday parties?

My office has actually had Crazy Hat Day (with prizes awarded for the craziest hat) and Hawaiian Shirt day, and since we're in Boston, we have Patriots Jersey day or Red Sox attire day.

Ok, I definately work for the wrong publisher in town ;)

We're pretty formal here and not much celebrating. This was a bit of an adjustment from when I worked at Disney and we had celebrations for no reason at all :)

I'd imagine working for Disney would be awesome. Did you work in the parks? :)

No fun here. I'm in a government agency so if the media ever found out that any fun went on here, they'd assume taxpayer dollars were involved (even if we chipped in our own $$).

Around the holidays we have a food table - if you want to bring stuff in, the office will eat it! :p We usually combine it with a food drive for the local food bank.

Yup, pretty boring! ::yes::

you can always walk across the street and visit me and the Mickeymobile, what could possibly be more fun than that...:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

I work at a college so we have fun stuff all the time for students, faculty, and staff. Today was an employee picnic in the park across the street with free burgers, hotdogs, etc. I'm stuffed! There are a lot of community events held here as well (Caribbean Festival, Cinco de Mayo) that we can attend.

We also have potlucks in our department for holidays, birthdays, and when someone leaves. I can wear jeans pretty much whenever I want although I usually confine it to the occasional Friday. Like today!

It's one of the reasons I just love working at a college!

ppllleeeaaasssseeee...........

my company is not even giving one day off at Christmas this year........... I don't know how much more "fun" I can stand.

My last company, though, had lots of fun. We worked hard, and played hard. It was a marketing company. I still have some of the "crazy" video's we made.

Awww.

If it makes you feel any better, my company gives the entire staff the week between Christmas and New Years off, paid, every year.

HOWEVER, our warehouse in another state is open that week, since shipments can't stop. Because of the nature of my position, being a contact for the warehouse, I am one of the very few who have to come in.

They give me comp days to make up for it that I can use as vacation days later in the next year, but it still stinks to be the only one here. (well, there are a handful of others who are required to be here , but they are not in my dept. so I'm the only one on this side of the building)

My last company in NJ just before we moved to FL did that. Plus your 2 weeks' vacation. :Pinkbounc I MISS that place! That was in Aerospace. Would like to get back to that actually. :)

My company closes the week between Christmas and New Years, so I get that time off. I don't get paid for it though! :(

But I do have the type of job that I can wear jeans at the office. In the construction field, anything nicer would probably just get dirty and ruined!

I'm the only one in the office quite often for hours at a time, so I can have all the fun I can muster, as long as I still get my work done.

We do holiday stuff. One of my favorites is Cinco de Mayo. We all bring deserts and everybody shares. One time I just ate desert instead of my regular lunch, and I felt kind of sick for doing it. I just really wanted to try everything!

Some of us do the happy hour thing too. I usually only have one drink. I'm not a big drinker. :sunny:

Downstairs below me, is an OB/GYN office, upstairs is my medical billing company (Yes we bill for them! ;) Anyway, during the summer I throw a Friday Bar-B-Q for both set of employees. Sometimes Burgers & Dogs, Sometimes Shrimp & Scallops, Sometimes Chicken and Steak. My staff has started bringing in some amazing side dishes, (although they didn't have to!).

We have a cake for every birthday (paid for by the company - ME!)

We have a birthday cake hat, you must wear and be photographed in, We dress up for Halloween (the patients love it, we even have trick-or-treat candies in the waiting room.

About once a month I take my billers out for lunch. And anyone who lasts 5 years gets a full week at Disney (WTW) our treat.

We had a milk thief, but posted the penalty for the crime, and that stopped rapidly. (Imagine an OB/GYN instument and an uncomfortable position!)

The best place I ever worked was a major (more than 200 machines) video/pinball arcade. EVERY day was fun!

Oh and the OB/GYN office also has an annual birthday party for all the babies (and their families) born that year. Upto 500 people, with clowns, tents, magicians, food, and door prizes for the biggest baby, longest labor, strangest cravings, etc.

ASM at TDS (both stores are long gone now) and ages ago I worked at The Great Movie Ride (yup, a tour guide) in WDW. Somehow the "grown up" jobs have not been as fun. Now if those pesky hurricanes would leave poor FL alone, I might try and head back there (oh yeah, and would have to convince DH who was also a TDS and WDW CM) ;)

That cookout sounds fun! I wish we had our own parking lot so we could do stuff like that. We're located in a pretty congested area though. :(

Did you wear a crazy hat?
Just back from the cookout, it was fun! They also had a DJ w/karioke (sp) so everyone was dancing and singing. Don't feel like doing any work now!!

And no I didn't wear a hat, I forgot about it.

I am cracking up at the thought of some of my co-workers doing karaoke. :)

During one of our Christmas parties, maybe 2-3 years ago, we had a live band, and it was really amsuing watch some of the vps dancing to that song "Doin' da Butt" .

No I'm not kidding. :)

 Are you kidding? We can't even get our bosses to let us have breaks. Theres not a chance that they will alow us things like your suggesting. Though we do have a Christmas party.

Tony, I'm in medical billing and I wanna come work for you!! And i used to do the billing for an OB/GYN office! Any openings?:teeth:
