B/C the forecast is calling for rain 3 of the 6 days we're there! Now hubby and I will brave the parks in the rain but I'd like to know if it's a miserable experience!
I'm a little disappointed about that. I mean doesn't the weather KNOW not to ruin MY vacation?????? :earsboy:

Except for AK most attractions are indoors so you only have to dodge raindrops going from attraction to attraction. Besides, even it is raining putting a bit of a damper on your trip just tell yourself... you're at Disney, you could be at work now :)

First the rain in Florida is sporadic. Sometimes when the forecast says rain it can be just showers for part of the day and beautiful the rest.
MGM is a good park for the rain as some of their popular things are indoors. Tower of Terror, Aerosmith coaster, Great movie ride, Star Tours. Also if it is warm and the rain is light I am told this is the best time to go to the water parks as they are empty and you get on everything with no lines. Also, I am not sure when you are going as your ticker is turned off, but the week before I went they were forecasting showers for three days and it wound up only raining one day. If you have one day that has tons of rain you could do Disney Quest and shop at Downtown Disney.

A rainy day at WDW is better then a sunny day at work! :teeth:

My personal opinion is that the Animal Kingdom sucks in the rain and, if you have young children, so does the Disney Studios, unless of course you time your shows just right. My beef with Disney Studios is that there are not enough continous loading rides for children to escape the rain. Your best bet for rain is Epcot. My opinion anyway.

it rained one night while we were at Magic Kingdom. Not hard, but steady. It rained for about an hour. It was an EMH night that night and boy were we glad it rained. It cleared the park out of alot of EMH guests and of course the non EMH guests were gone as well and we rode every ride that was open that night in less than 1 1/2 hours. It was awesome! We were wet but we dried pretty quick. That's the only time we've ever had rain in our four trips. knock on wood.

When we went to WDW in 2002 it rained (actually poured) every single day. We stood at the Poly balcony & watched it look like we were under a waterfall.
We got out our ponchos & headed out anyway. Covered the stroller with 2 ponchos so that didn't get wet. We tried to stay on inside rides alot (small world, peter pan, pooh at MK). We did get to see every "movie" they have in Epcot that vacation! Also innoventions at Epcot is a good place in the rain because it's all inside. We also did alot of character dining inside too.

We did have fun in spite of the rain..it is Disney after all. Have fun.

I actually thought it was kinda fun, the first time anyway. We got to wear Disney ponchos! I had Walmart ones in our backpack, but I really wanted a Disney one! Now those are in our backpack! As long as you have on Teva's or some other waterproof sandel, the rain's no big deal. It stops pretty quick. I do hate it when it drizzles all day. :( that bums me out. We go to the movies too if it's raining for a while. Epcot is fine in the rain. Outdoor rides are not, like Barnstormer, wet bum! :worried:

Just make sure to pack several pairs od shoes for everyone. Once when we went it rained hard and long every single day. Our tennis shoes got sopped the first day and never dried out. Then we switched to our sandals and those too got sopped and became uncomfortable because they were leather. Finally we were wearing our pool shoes (Flip flops.) THe main problem I found was how COLD I got in the air conditioning while sopping wet. We carried some dry socks and slipped them on with our flip flops when were someplace indoors. It seemed to make you feel a bit warmer for a short while. I also tied a sweatshirt around my waist, so I could put it on while inside.

We did have a BALL though, so don't worry if it rains. I agree that a rainy day at Disney is better than a sunny day at work!

One day in June 2003 a mid day downpour stopped us for 45 minutes or so. We had no ponchos and the rain was coming down hard. We decided to get lunch so it wasn't that big of an inconvenience. But I should have had ponchos!

I don't think so. It's a whole lot quieter and easier to get around. Characters interact more, because there isn't that long line waiting. Just put on the poncho and keep movin!

I absolutely agree with you! Dh and I always go during mid-Sept (except this year!!!) It has always rained during one part of the vacation in WDW.This really is no big deal. I expect for rain, and if it happens-no problem; if it doesn't- then yay for us! I find it does help to clear out most parks. Epcot especially! MK, not so much. But then, we were at MK on a Saturday the last time it rained, and it made no difference what-so-ever. I do agree to bring a sweater/sweatshirt and have it tied around your waist, or folded in your backpack under your poncho. I literally had chattering teeth one time, becuase we had run across the WS to get to Germany to eat. I was SOAKED (even with my poncho). And I almost froze to death (I am sure I resembled the frozen guy in Ice Station Cool). Don't let the rain sour your mood! Just go and enjoy things that you have never experienced before- shows, movies, indoor attractions, countries @ WS, ect.
GOOD LUCK!!! HAVE FUN!!! ENJOY!!! :grouphug:

Just wear a rain pancho, be a kid again and enjoy the rain. The rain will go away shortly, from my experience. The last time I went and it rained, I felt like a little kid, running and laughing down Main Street in the rain, wearing that bright yellow pancho. Wouldn't trade that moment for anything! :earboy2:

Depends. Much of the time, it absolutely downpours for a while and then lets up. Just when you are drenched. While few forecasters are 100%, try looking at accuweather for a forecast, they seem to be best. Click on the hourly forecast option, it should give you some idea of what is expected.

The first time we went it rained cats and dogs one day but we went to downtown disney DisneyQuest and had a blast anyway. Just be flexible with your plans and it should be fine.

We were at Disney for 4th of July Week in 2002. It rained almost every day but it really didn't stop us much. We bought Ponchos the first day we were at the park and I carried them around in a back pack, when it started raining we just put them on and kept going. It really worked out good because the showers were ususally mid afternoon and the parks cleared out and it cooled things down some. If it was thundering and lightning we just picked an indoor attraction, hit some of the shops or stoped for a bite to eat. Our dd was three at the time and it did not bother her at all, she loved being allowed to be out in the rain and wearing the yellow poncho with Mickey on it. :sunny:

We always have a great time when it rains.Everyone else is worried about getting wet and heading indoors while we make our way through the park. It seems like lines get shorter and it is a whole lot easier to get around. My kids think it is a blast. Just make sure you have extra shoes at your room and it is no problem.I would rather be rained on at Disney than dry at work.

Are you going this week? We were there last week and we saw the forecast for rain this week.

It rained one day during our trip and we went to MK first thing in the morning. It was a light drizzle when we left ASMo but was a steady rain once we got to MK. Yes, despite wearing ponchos we got a little wet, but we walked onto any ride we wanted to go on. We rode Space Mountain, Pooh, Peter Pan, Country Bears and a couple other things. It wasn't pouring, but it was a steady rain. I have to say I didn't love it, but after seeing the crowds at MK the following afternoon, I would say it was worth it going there in the rain. I bet we could have gotten into CRT, CP or LTT for lunch as well. We went to AK in the afternoon when the rain had stopped, and we had the park to ourselves. We even had our own personal safari ride!

One thing we thought about doing if we had another rainy day was to spend the day at AKL. You could eat lunch at Boma or the Mara and then walk through the lobbies and check out the animals. I think I could spend a few hours there relaxing. If you have no kids, you can get a spa treatment as well. They also have a nice lounge if you have no kids.

ditto the ponchos for the stroller. It keeps it dry while not in use.

jpeka65844,

To add, I think the first issue with your question is, that you are asking very biased people :confused3 :teeth: (who us?). I happen to agree with the main points of the above posters. There are days of rain, but for the most part rain is sporadic and usually in the afternoon. Bring extra socks it helps a lot. If you are the type to get cold in AC (I'm not), then bring something to put on as well.

I can't tell you how many times we were in the parks and it started to rain and we jumped on a ride. When the ride was over, the rain was as well. This is common.

so I'd say aside from the unusual all-day down pour, you should be good.
Have fun!
