My immediate supervisor is driving me crazy. I turn in my lesson plans for her review each week, fine, no problem I would have to turn them in to someone. I get them back written all over with corrections. :headache:

She comes and observes my class. Great, fine someone has to observe. Then I get questioned on everything and told I am doing things incorrectly. :headache:

Now why does this give me a headache? Because this women that is my supervisor is not a teacher. She has an AA degree in business. She doesn't attend any of the workshops the teachers do and has no idea how to implement the curriculum. Why should I have to take direction from her????? It drives my co-teachers and I nuts!!! Earlier in the year we had another person doing this job. She had 25 years of experience and a Ph.D. I valued and respected her opinion and observations, even her criticisms. They fired her. Now I spend my days defending my lesson plans and actions in the classroom. It's just getting old.

Wow! That is totally wrong! If I were you I would contact your union rep. and ask if there are guidelines as to who is allowed to review/supervise you. I could see someone with an AA in business admin. making sure that all paperwork was filed, or keeping track of attendance or benefits issues, but they should not be responsible for teacher review and oversite. I think lay people can be a valuable member of a teaching team and can even provide insight and ideas that trained teachers overlook, but they should definitely not be the primary supervisor.

Wow, what do you teach? And where? I teach in a public elem. school and my principal has only checked my lesson plans once this year.

Because I teach preschool I am not unionized. This persons official title is "Assistant Director" which means that basically she is suppossed to do the paperwork etc. But when they fired the original person who's job it was to oversee the teachers she stepped into the role.

I teach preschool for the school district. (Does that make sense?) We are part of the district in every possible way expect for the way the teachers are treated. We even get paid on the same salary scale as district teachers but we don't have a union, substitutes,or tenure.

Can you talk to the Director & ask what she thinks...maybe as a group?
