Does the # of points needed change yearly?

I'm considering DVC. I have a question....

Do the # of points used for stays change yearly. Meaning, if I estimate that I'll need 120 points yearly for a 1 week studio stay in 2006 (b/c the 1 week I go is 120 pts.) Will that week still be 120 pts. the next year. ANother example, If a studio is 12 points per weekday night in 2006 will it still be 12 pts. for weekday night in 2007...what about in 2038?

I'm sure somebody will be able to explain this better but the answer is no & yes.

A 2BR at SSR in September is always going to be 27 p/p/n, M-Th. for the life of DVC.

The only fluctuations arise over holidays when the dates vary. Example, in 2006 Thanksgiving is on the 23rd. The day prior, day of & day after (22, 23 & 24) are always Magic season. BUT in 2007 T'Giving is the 22nd so 11/21, 11/22 & 11/23 are Magic season in '07 but not 11/24 as in '06. It's the same thing with Easter. Premier season for '06 was 4/9 - 4/22 & in '07 it will be 4/1 - 4/14 (based on Easter being 4/8/07, Premier season is the week prior & week after)

Now, DVD does have the right to alter the points in a season but if they raise one season they'd have to lower another. I think this only happened once before in DVC history.

Except for the Holiday variation alreaday noted, the answer is actually Yes ... and Maybe.

The point charts for 2007 are exactly the same as for 2006 except for variance for Easter and Thanksgiving dates. So, if a studio costs 12 points per weekday night on 2006, it will be the same in 2007.

...HOWEVER ... the points can be changed in the future. DVC has sold a finite number of points ta each resort and than number cannot be changed. If necessary though, DVC does have the ability to modify how those points are applied at each resort by raising some nights and lowering others. So, it is possible that a studio that costs 12 points per weeknight this year could be either increased or decreased. In practice, this has occured once - at OKW in 1996. No changes have taken place since that time in the point charts. While I do not anticipate any changes in the near future, it is always a possibility.

Here is the DVC point chart for OKW from 1991 - 1995. In 1996, the current point chart began and is still valid at least thru 2007 (and the 2008 point charts should be released in the next few weeks). The greatest changes were for Adventure Season, where all room types increased. All other seasons saw little or no change on weekdays, but larger decreases on weekends for all room types.

Points listed are for Studio, 1BR, 2BR, GV (weekday/weekend) respectively:

Adventure Season: 7/17 , 14/35 , 19/47 , 31/77

Choice Season: 8/21 , 17/42 , 23/57 , 37/92

Dream Season: 10/25 , 20/50 , 27/67 , 45/112

Magic Season: 11/28 , 23/57 , 31/77 , 52/130

Premier Season: 15/38 , 31/77 , 42/105 , 68/170

Current point needs:

Adventure: 8/20 , 16/40 , 22/54 , 36/88

Choice: 8/21 , 18/41 , 24/56 , 38/91

Dream: 10/24 , 20/48 , 27/64 , 45/107

Magic: 11/27 , 22/54 , 30/73 , 51/123

The total number of points charged for a villa for the entire year can never change. However, the way those points are distributed throughout the year can be changed.

For example, they could charge more for a villa in the Magic season by charging less for it in the Dream season. Or they could adjust the number of days that are in a particular season and raise or lower points to make up the difference.

If you go at the same time each year, you may see the points fluxuate. But overall, each villa is earning the same total number of points each year.
