Does Disney offer Upsell?

Thats because it was free dining. The CM was trying to upsell you to a deluxe resorts. Once again, the OP is talking about calling in and asking for a discounted rate because theyve already booked

So your snotty "That will never happen" response was WRONG! Guess what? Disney is a marketing genius. If they are offering a promo but can get more money out of you they will. So you don't know THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, because it just might. When you think you have Disney pegged you don't EVEN IF YOU WORK THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if you do you should know just how often they change things and offer promos to get the most amount of money they can from people. Maybe they are saying it differently, than you. Maybe they won't call and the CM will say hey pss we have a special upgrade just for you.. Ok so no that might not be the case, but can you always watch for a better deal or call in from time to time and see if anything good is being offered You bet your butt you can! Guess what? I have made so many calls planning our trip that I know the prompts by heart but you know what? I ended up with free dining and reservations at every restaurant I wanted. Did I get it all in one call No. But with persistance a lot of good things can happen EVEN A GREAT DEAL!!!!!!!! Who cares if its available to everyone. So here is my bottom line. Keep your eye out you may be able to get a great deal. call from time to time or go online. Compare it you might just end up with something GREAT good luck I hope you save a bundle and end up at a deluxe!

Disney does "offer" upsells; the key word being "offer". Agents are not "suppose" to search for them upon request.

Most simply pop up on the computer screen due to low occupany levels at a particular resort and too much inventory at another resort.

If a guest asks to book the resort with the high level of occupancy it may trigger an upsell offer to a resort with a much lower occupancy.

And no I do not work for Disney but a very dear friend is the GM over the DRC so Yes I confired with her before sharing the info.

Okay people the OP already has a reservation at a moderate resort. If they call and say "what kind of price can you give me to upgrade to a deluxe" if will NEVER be a discounted price. Unless the person calling asks for a FL rate or an AP rate or a code they will not be offered a discounted "upsell" rate. Were not talking about a brand new booking here, at least me and the OP wasnt

No, but it could be that they could call and inquire about rates at a higher category of resort and luck out and be offered an upsell. I know it's all in the interpretation...but that fact is -- Disney *does* offer upsells.

Yeah and its all in the way you call too. If you call and say I have a reservation but am just curious what the difference would be if I went with a deluxe resort and if they tell you and you say ooh that might be more than I want to spend. They might offer something. I would go online and see what it prices so you know a good deal if you get it right?

Rarely does this happen, however, as stated anything at Disney is possible. If the OP had a confirmed reservation at a moderate and that moderate is very highly booked, even possibly overbooked, then yes checking the reservation could trigger an upsell to a resort with much lower occupancy.

Sometimes even Disney will do the offering by contacting guests booked at certain resorts and ask them to move to higher level resort at a reduced price. This has happened to us.

Not very likely for all of that to fall into place at the right time etc. but it "could" happen.

I had an experience with an "upsale", but probably not what anyone here wants. It wasn't anything really bad, but it was something.

My experience:
I had tried for weeks to get switched from AS Mo to POP. My DW and both kids were really wanting to stay at the Pop. I didn't really care, but I like to make them happy, so I called almost every day. I spoke to a really friendly CM who made me sing "I do believe in Miracles, I do I do." and she made me sing it several times. My wife was rolling on the floor. She then told me she had got me a room at the POP. I was happy, my wife was even happier. My DS is Autistic. He had his heart set on POP as well.
What she didn't tell me was the room was preferred. The deal was a couple hundred more because of preferred. I had VERY SPECIFICALLY said I was NOT interested in preferred, and would rather just keep the AS MO than pay the additional for preferred. The price I was quoted was same as the AS MO within a few dollars, but when I got home, I had been charged a lot more.
The preferred room was not where I would have chose. I am allergic to cigarette smoke, and I had to walk through the smoking section twice a day. That smoke floats all over the area. It was also further from the food court than the NON-preferred room last trip. It was the only time I can recall ever having a problem with disney reservations as far as pricing is concerned.
Oh, and she charged me for insurance as well, which I specifically said I did not need, or want. A few calls later it was subtracted from my credit card. Glad I checked.
She was a really nice CM. Probably just a mistake. I didn't take it as an intentional scam.

I was offered an "upsell" in 2002, when tourism was down due to 911. I called to book Wilderness Lodge and the CM offered me the Grand Floridian at only a slightly higher rate than WL. I remember she DID use the term upsell. I did not ask for this offer. The CM brought it up. Of course, I jumped on it. Hasn't happened to me again since.

Given the amount of threads on the decline in service and rude CM's encountered in CRO lately, you might definitely have a job opportunity there. You seem to have a wealth of information (is it correct info?..who knows ). But the way you present your point is really off-putting, especially when you feel the need to badger people that have different opinions than yours.


OP: It looks like "upsells", or discounted offers do exist. It seems as though they use different terms for the discounts, but at the end of the day it's less money.
If I were you I'd definitely call and ask. As a pp pointed out, with the economy the way it is and as airfare continues to rise, I'm sure Disney will be looking at more room inventory than in past years. Good luck!

I apologize if I come off as rude but people are confusing calling in fresh and being offered an upsell and calling back once youre booked, as the original poster asked and being offered a better rate since they were already booked. That will not happen. There are situations, such as after 9/11 like the PP stated and oversold resorts and such where if you call in for a new reservation you may be "bumped" up for a better deal. That doesnt happen offen but it does happen. If you are already booked though you will not be offered a better rate if you call back unless you have a pin code or other discount code to CHANGE your package to or if Disney calls YOU and tells you about a situation where they NEED to upgrade you
