Does Disney offer Upsell?

I think that is more than likely a different situation than what is being discussed on here by the OP
Yeah, I think in addition to directing her to the thread about the original question, we've also covered some other types of discounts and/or upgrades that can be available when you call or after the reservation is made. Whether it's an upsell, oversell, flex offer, promotional, YOAMD magical upgrade or the universe is aligned just right ;) .

Thanks for clarifying the details of that September offer. Between that and the construction going on at AKL, it seemed like there were constant threads about people being offered a move or calling to request one.

Not to throw a wrench in the debate... but it is common to ask for and receive discounted upgrades within a resort when checking in. I can't see that getting an upsell would be all that different. Try it and see what happens!

Funny because I asked that exact question last week and was told by many people, no no no no, that don't happen no mo'.

I'm of the mindset, it never hurts to ask. I mean, it's not like they're going to throw you out, although some CM's do attest to intentionally not giving upgrades to those that come right out and ask for it. Who knows what kind of CM you'll get at check-in though. I honestly think the frequency of upgrades has gone down as higher occupancy rates have returned, but with the economy the way it is now, it's anyones guess whether people will keep their scheduled vacations or cancel. Ask way my fellow Bostonian!

Okay, if you re-read my first post, I said that an upsell should be asked for when making the reservation.
But that's not an upSELL - it's a request being made by the Guest in hopes of getting a "deal".

An upsell is when the merchant makes the offer.

A Disney resort CM posted a response that included, and I'll quote, "When booking a non-discounted Value, always ask for an up-sell rate." If you feel this is not the correct information, you might want to discuss it with the DIS'er who posted it. You can find the thread by following the link I provided in post #2. I provided the link, because it was not my statement to make, I was only passing along that the subject had been touched upon recently and attributed the response to a CM.

I know that Disney has a myriad of discounts/upgrades/deals, whatever we want to call them, available and that's why I said that it wouldn't hurt to call back and see what's available. Heck, it doesn't even hurt to ask at check-in for that matter.

Ok getting back to the original intent of the OP,

1) Call, the worse they can tell you is no and all you've wasted has been a phone call. Keep in mind that the posters on the dis are a very small % of Disney's population. Just because you see all the fabulous deals here on the dis doesn't mean it happens often.

2) Ask when you check in. Personally I doubt that they will move you from mod to Deluxe but the might upgrade your room catergory. Once again you've loss nothing by simply asking.

3) Please don't be upset if both times the answer is no. I hate it when people get bent out of shape (believe me, I've seen it at check in) because they hear about all these fabulous deals other people have gotten and aren't offered one.

All Im saying is that will NEVER happen. If you call out of the blue and say "I have an existing reservation at a value, are there any deals on a moderate" the answer will be no.
Well, that sounds like silly marketing to me. If I happen to call back, just to check on rates and the CM says that there is a managers special or whatever anyone wants to call it, why can't I then cancel my existing reservation and make a new one? Are they seriously going to tell me, that because I already have a reservation in the system, they refuse to even look at the computer screen for me? Based on what we know about the Disney money machine, I find that very hard to believe. I'll have to check with some TA friends and see if they've ever been refused.

In all seriousness, with the current economy, these offers may very well become more frequent again. DCL recently dropped their expiration date on a 1/2 off deposit promotion. Most likely done because the rate of their bookings is beginning to drop off.

Thats not what Im saying at all. If you have an existing reservation at lets say pop century and call saying "are there any specials at POFQ so I can upgrade" theyre gonna say "sure you can upgrade, at the regular price anyone else will pay". There is no screen that has manager specials or special rates available and if you dont ask for a specific offer youre not going to get it. Existing reservations wont show flex offers and the CRO has NO access to overbooked resorts to even offer an upgraded room.

So you work in CRO?

(me speaking in a very soft voice to the OP) :tiptoe: good luck with any discounts. Unsubscribing now and moving along :wave2:

The last time I got a true "upsell" offer was in 1998. I was trying to book a value and they offered a mod (which I took!).

It doesn't hurt to ask and you may find a CM that can offer you some kind of existing promo but personally I haven't been offered a upsell in years.

Good luck though, maybe you'll stumble across something that will work for you.

All Im saying is that will NEVER happen. If you call out of the blue and say "I have an existing reservation at a value, are there any deals on a moderate" the answer will be no. Overbooked resorts are a totally differant animal handled by callbacks or emails. There is NO upsell rate by calling CRO. At check in is a differant story as well.

Not really wise to say never....you may have to eat your words one day.;)

As the saying goes...."Never say never." :upsidedow

When I was booking my September 2007 Free Dining trip last April, I was offered an Upsell to Boardwalk, Yacht, or Beach Club. And that is what the CM called it. It was more than what I was wanting to spend on vacation but it was definitely less than what the same package would have cost if I was planning on booking one of those resorts. The CM said it was an Upsell that came up to be offered to me. :confused3
