Does anyone travel with an alarm clock?

Always! I never want to take a chance the hotel won't have one, or it won't work, or I can't figure out how to set it. I've been using one of these for years:

Built in flashlight, lots of settings, nice alarm that gets slowly more insistent and has a snooze (and face lights up when you hit the snooze button). Has a "Locked" setting for when it's packed. Batteries last a long time. Nicely compact (packs easily). Only downside is you have to take off the battery cover to set the clock or alarm, but that's only a minor problem.

They make a version that doesn't have the flashlight, but I've never tried it.

Thanks. I figured that would be the answer.

A lot of people use the clock/alarm app on their smartphone or tablet.

We use the Brookstone without the flashlight!

"SingingMom" ....Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

If so, any recommendations?

We used to bring a small travel alarm with us, but now with iPhones we don't bother any more

But then don't you have to pay for roaming?

Not if you put the phone on airplane mode. Clock and alarm functions will still work fine although you'll have to manually set the phone's time when you change time zones while in airplane mode.

If you prevent your phone from setting the time automatically the time should adjust itself when you pick a new time zone relative to where you are.

No, I haven't traveled with an alarm clock in years. I just set the alarm on my iPhone or iPad. Plus, I can't remember ever staying in a hotel room which didn't have an alarm clock.

Yes .... I do bring my own. As many European & other Hotels around the World ... Do Not always have " Actual Alarm Clocks " ( Most will have a system of using their " House phone " for setting alarm time.)

I bought mine in WallMart for $ 5 a " Sharp " Brand that uses 2 AAA

batteries

It is small & fits into Laptop Bag. along with Travel Adaptor Plug

( You will need a one for Mainland Europe ... { UK & Ireland use a 3 pin }

where a 2 pin round is used )

ITA BUT I've stayed in several hotels (not in the USA) where the clock was plugged into an outlet which isn't live when the guest exits the room.

A couple of posters asking about roaming. Put your phone in airplane mode, then enable WiFii.

The iPhone 5 is an international phone. I know the VZ version is unlocked. You can buy a local SIM card if you need data or want to make calls. I'm not talking about the SIM cards you see on the WEB which works in almost every country and gives you a US number for your callers. I'm talking about a country specific card you purchase when you arrive or on ebay. I got a card in Ireland which gave me 2c (Euro) /minute to the US.
