Does anyone still contact resort before arrival with room requests?

Our trip is coming up soon, 11/8-12 at POP and it's going to be very busy there. This is also the latest we've ever arrived--it won't be until about 9pm.

I stopped doing room requests several trips ago but wondering if I should call or fax the resort before arrival just to confirm that we won't be there until late but give them our room preferances. We have preferred location but still want to specify which parts of the buildings we'd like.

Does anyone still do this? Does the Resort work with those in advance requests or ignore? Any resort CMs out there with advise?

Thanks, Sharon

Sharon,

We still call the resort 2-3 days prior to arrival with requests. Requests are hard to fill if you're arriving late though, especially if the resort is near full. The guest who is standing at the check-in desk will get their request filled if available, rooms are not locked out for other guests requests.

It can't hurt so call in your request.

My suggestion would be to call the resort directly very early in the morning. We did that last time we were at CSR. I called about 7am and though they did not guarantee it at that time, our requests were met.

I dont fax or call. If you fax it is very unlikely your fax and your reservation will ever see each other. Requests made with CRO are downloaded into the resort computer to be seen by the staff. However a fax might lie around and never get seen.

As to calling, even if you call the number listed as your resort contact number you are getting a central operator that handles many calls for all the resorts. Basically a switchboard, even though they answer with the resort name. That person is very unlikely to pass the info on.

I would note them with Reservations and ask again at check in.

I agree with Sammie. You are talking with a call center. You may think you are talking with someone at the front desk but most likely you are not. If it is noted in your reservation you are good to go.

I agree with Sammie and Safetymom. It got to be overwhelming when the word got out to fax or call in your requests. If they are noted on your reservation and you nicely reming them at check in they will do their best for you.

We were at POP back in September. I faxed my request two days before we checked in. I had asked for a location that would be away from the pool as well as the bus stop since we drive everwhere, it was just me and husband. When we checked in we were placed in the 50's bldg, that faced Epcot on the top floor at the end. It was great, we didn't hear nothing but a toliet now and then. (I think most people ask to be closer to the pool and bus stops.)

You can get the direct # from the resort web sight it puts you to the front desk.I call about 5 to 6 days out because thats when they start to look at availibility for room assignment.Atleast thats what I've been told several times and have not had a problem.

You're actually getting a call center. Just like when you call the main desk from your room. They answer as the resort, but they may be miles away. Pretty good, huh?

Make your requests with CRO on your reservation.

What if I am using a package deal from an airlines? We need a king size bed and a connecting room.

And

Would that be a preferred room rate?

We are planning on being at WDW Jan 2 to 12th

I faxed POR 3 days before we arrived and when we got there they had all my requests in the computer and even gave us a complimentary upgrade! Try it, it couldn't hurt.

I think I'll go ahead and fax a request in 3-4 days in advance like the old days. At worst, they'll throw the request away.

I know for a fact that they can assign rooms in advance because on one trip, with mother who had mobility issues, when we checked in the desk CM said that the room was assigned and noted "DO NOT MOVE" by someone in response to our fax.

Thanks for the advise...

Why not take the suggestions of several here and have the requests noted in your reservation? That way when they start assigning rooms they will have your requests and maybe your fax.

They assign rooms several days in advance whether you have them in your reservation or you fax. You can also ask again at check in.

I just want to be added to the list of those who do NOT request or call before I visit a resort. I also suggest (as mentioned above) that faxing is not a good idea. Many resorts have even asked that requests not be faxed.
