Flying United this trip because I had an awards flight..but honestly, they're not my favorite airline. Anyone here like United?

My reasons:

Their website hasn't worked for me in over three years (it never acknowledges my miles)

Which leaves me to book over the phone and their Reps are hard to understand as English is not their first language.

I was owed a refund and it took several calls and letters to straighten out. A hassle to be sure.

So why do I have miles? From my groceries store mileage program!!

I usually fly United. Mostly because they have good times and prices from Chicago O'Hare. Although I don't fly them exclusively. If I can get a (significantly) cheaper price on another line, I'll go there.

I haven't really had any of the issues you mentioned. The only issue I have ever had is that they have lately been overbooking flights and not assigning seats (seat assignment at gate). Which usually means that some people will be left behind. I was almost bumped on a flight back from New Orleans. This has happened 3 times. Luckily I called United about my seat assignment and the rep told me they open up the remainder of the seats 24 hours before the flights and I have always been able to snag one of the last seats and not had to rely on "seat assignment at gate".

We've flown with United previously and are flying with them again in March and May because their fares were the cheapest. I've had some minor issues with their website but then I've just called their 1-800 number instead. No big deal. :confused3

It used to be that they charged you an extra booking fee if you booked over the phone. I don't this this is still the case though...

I usually book all my flights online. The website issues I've had have been with verifying flight changes made by the airline so haven't been charged when I've called.

United is bottom of the barrell for me, I feel ashamed for it even being associated to Star Alliance which has US Airways and Continental.

I haven't had anymore trouble with United than I have with any other US based airline. Admittedly, most of my flights are not on US based airlines (I don't live in the US).

Unlike the PP, I'm ashamed that US Airways is part of Star Alliance (haven't flown Continental since it joined).

I happily flew United for years until I realized that AA had a better frequent flyer program for me as an occassional traveler. Even though AA has now pulled out of my local airport, I still fly AA for the FF benefits.

My last experience with a telephone booking with United was actually very positive, as they let me hold a FC ticket to Hawaii that I was getting for my Dad for a longer than normal time even though I was short about 90 miles while I waited for grocery store miles that I had earned to post. -- Suzanne

There are far worse Star Alliance carriers out there. ;)

I haven't flown them much but I did fly them Washington DC to Frankfurt in business class and it was really nice.

United has economy plus seating, which is far better than any economy seating on other US legacy airlines. As an elite United member, I get E+ seating for no extra cost. This benefit alone makes United my first airline choice.

We're flying with United again in April. I don't have more problems with them than with any other airline. The website hasn't been a problem, but, like a PP, when they change the flight times, I have to call their 800 number to confirm things. The person I got on the phone for a time change was based out of the USA, but spoke perfect English and was polite and helpful.

Sandi did you call because you suspected the flight times had changed? Were you informed by email? I checked my flights the other day and it had changed but only by a few minutes and it said "schedule change" in bright red- I didn't think any action was needed on my part...or is there?

PS-Glad to hear of positive experiences.

We have flown them for the past three years and have not had any problems with them at all. They have consistently been the least expensive flying out of Portland, ME to Orlando for our President's Week trips.

Did you have the new flat-bed seats or the older recliner style seats? The new seats are indeed quite nice!! The service still needs improvement! (its quite hit or miss!)

That's what happened to me - changed the flight number and flight time by 15 min ... and no I did not receive any email about the change. I'm always checking the airline's websites to make sure, just in case, as 90% of the time they don't notify you.

When I saw the red schedule change, I tried to click on the link to "verify" the schedule change but got "page not found", so I called. Once I called and logged back into my account the flight was confirmed and the red schedule change was gone.

Since we fly almost exclusively out of Dulles, we typically fly UAL . Our experiences have been fine, minor schedule tweaking (hope I don't jinx us by saying that) and no real problems booking flights on line. Also decent award availability although like every other airline that varies greatly depending on when/where you want to go. IMO when you're flying basic coach, I don't think there's a lot of difference between the legacies in the actual on board experience. The nice thing about United for us has been the large number of flights available to the destinations we are interested in. It's much easier planning a trip when you have several good options for flight times....

Have a nice trip!

My on board experiences with United have been nothing but good. I should have said that in my original post. It's their customer service I can't stand.
