Hi All, I am bringing a first time cruiser with us on their first ever cruise. He is a behind the scenes (scenery, lights, sounds etc..) high school drama teacher and I was wondering if Disney ever gives tours of "behind the scenes" of the shows or theater on their ships? We are on the Magic. Any info would be appreciated!

There was a tour offered on our Hawaii 2015 cruise aboard The Magic, it was a 10 night cruise with 5 straight sea days. I think they are only offered on longer cruises ( Transatlantic, Panama Canal etc.) That was the one and only time we have seen it offered when we were on The Magic.

Yes, we went on the theater tour last Sept. on our 11-day WBTA cruise. They are normally not given on anything less than 8 days. There are other special events/activities that we were offered that don't come with the shorter cruises. These tours are listed in the Navigator and required a reservation made on the ship. Our guide was one of the guys in the cast of the show.

Castaway club "meeting" on the 9 night Alaska cruise this year was cool. in the WDT we saw the opening Snow White number followed by Hunchback. Then they reset and replayed those scenes where we could see some of the directors & technicians and listen in on all of the backstage chatter / cues as those scenes were replayed. Then we got to visit with several of the technical / costuming / director staff. Very interesting and fun.

A few years ago on the 12 night Baltic we got to tour backstage of the WDT and visit with some of the entertainment staff. I lifted Cinderella's dress (she was NOT wearing it at the time!!!! :earseek:) from Twice Charmed and I can tell you that it is HEAVY!!! Cinderella must have very strong legs!!

Thank you all for your replies!! I'll have to assume that won't be an option for us this trip since we are on a five night. Bummer.

It certainly would be worthwhile to stop by Guest Services and inquire, however. You never know.

While not really "theater" the Art of the Theme Ship tour is very informative about the whys and wherefores of the decorative choices onboard the ship. Could be of interest.

How do you make a reservation for one if it's on the navigator? Do they advertise it at the beginning of the cruise? We're on the WBTA in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping for this tour!

Oh thank you! I will look to see if we have this. Is there a way to get a navigator online. I know it won't be exact but we're on a odd trip. We are on the repositioning from SanJuan to Miami 5night Verry Merry sailing. Only one sea day so I assume that's when most tours happen.

Sounds like a good chance you'll have this!! Good luck!!

You can't get "your" Navigators pre-cruise, but you can find past Navigators here http://disneycruiselineblog.com/personal-navigators/

That will give you an idea of what activities/tours are available and when. The Art of the Theme show tour typically runs a couple of times during a cruise. It is adult-only (usually). Not necessarily only on sea days.

My son is involved in performing and has been given a private tour of the theater on two occasions. Once it was arranged by the concierge and once by the cruise director. It does not hurt to ask.

Thank you so much for this helpful reply. I think we will definitely ask!!

By the way what exactly is the Art of the Theme show tour? Is it actually a tour on the ship of the theater or a movie type thing of how Disney does shows? Some of the navigators have the tour meeting at Palos???

We recently sailed on the Fantasy (7 night Western Caribbean in August) and I inquired about a behind the scenes tour of the Walt Disney Theater. The CM at Guest Services went into the back to check and then said that she believed it would be possible, they had to check with the Stage Manage (I think) and that we'd get an invitation for our 2nd at sea day. Sure enough a couple days before the at sea day we received an invitation on our stateroom fish. We were welcomed to our tour by Luke, on of the tech supervisors and there were a total of about 12 people on the tour. Luke was awesome and spent at least an hour talking with us and showing us the sound board, stage wings and backstage storage areas. We really appreciated the time he spent with us.

This is exactly what I hoped might he available. So you just went up to guest Sevices? Our Sea Day is Day 4 so I'm going to go up first day? Or is it too hectic that day?? Thanks for the information.

Yes. I waited until there was a very short line - I think the morning of the second day - and asked them if such a thing was possible. I'd do it either the 1st or 2nd day, so they have time to schedule it. It was great! I hope you enjoy!

It's a tour of the public spaces onboard the ship from Palo to the theater. Focusing on the "why" of the various design choices onboard.
