Which one do you have?

Do you like it?

Was it worth the $$$?
What cartridges do you own?
What do you use it for?
Did you buy it new or used?

I am looking at the Cricut Expression but I can't seem to decide if I REALLY want it for the price.

Please let me know the good, the bad and the ugly.

Show me what you've made if you would like to.....

I have the original cricut and honestly I wish I had the expression. There are so many projects that I have done that I wish I could make the images just a little bigger.

It was worth the money overall
I don't have a lot of cartridges, mostly Disney and a few of the alpha ones that I like ( don't remember the names off hand)
I bought it for scrapbooking and I have used it some of card making
I bought it new

I sell the cricuts at Michael's and most people who have the original wish they had, or actually come back to purchase the expression.

I have the original Cricut. Yes, I do like it,,,and I have a bunch of folders, maybe 4 fonts, and 4 image fonts. Most likely - I wouldn't have purchased it, except I got a GREAT deal on it:goodvibes

I am a card maker, and do not do any scrapbooking. Therefore, I would not buy the Expression, it would be a total waste of money for me.

Now - I LOVE the Cuttlebug, and that is a lot less money. ;)

There is great info on the cricut messageboard (both cricut and cuttlebug) along with a ton of great samples of what other people have done with their Cricuts.
The message board is at: CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK

My partner bought me one for my birthday last month and I LOVE it! I have the cricut expression and have about 20 cartridges so far. You can get cheap cartridges on eBay (less than 40 and sometimes even less than 30) and also JoAnn's and Michael's get's sales now and then that drop the cartridges to $40 each. I've heard that JoAnn's even gets $30 dollar sales around Black Friday.

Yes, it is totally worth the money! I love mine! Here's the first scrapbook page I made (of my girlfriend). I used the accent essentials cartridge and the storybook cartridge to make it.

I have the original Cricut. Love it. Have several cartridges for it, however I wish I had't bought it because I just don't have the time to scrapbook, and it was just too much money.

I have the Create....love it. Got it in Jan.
I have only about 7-8 cartridges so far. 2 Disney, a Christmas and a couple others.
I use it for scrap booking. If I need something, just look for it and make it work.
I could go for more cartridges.....DH's company is working with Provo Craft now, so hoping he can get me some cheaper.

Here are a couple pages I made using the Disney cart.

I have the Expression and LOVE it!!! As for your questions;

1. Yes, I totally think it's worth the money. I use it for scrapbooking and making crafts with my daughter.

2. I don't know how many cartridges I own off the top of my head, but my favorites are Paper Dolls, Plaintain (spelling?) Schoolbook, Accent Essentials, and Storybook.

3. In addition to #1, I love, love, love to use my Cricut for vinyl lettering. With the design studio, the sky's the limit. I just did some last week for the baby's room (due in 7 weeks) that says "With Butterfly Kisses and Ladybug Hugs Sleep Tight little one, like a bug in a rug". I used Alphalicious (another favorite) and home accents to put some butterflies around it.

4. With my mom's help (birthday money), I bought the Cricut new.

Good luck with your decision!

I have the Expression. I started out with the small Cricut machine shortly after it was released, and quickly upgraded to the Expression as soon as it was available. I haven't regretted it for a second - I love being able to make cuts as big as I need to, which sometimes can be 11 1/2 x 11 1/2.

Until I started school again, I was selling the Cricut and Cricut Expression machines on Ebay. Some were used and some were new. This could be a good place to pick one up for cheaper, but be careful. I have bought many used machines and had them shipped to me with no padding. They would always arrive broken! I got to the point that I would only buy new/unopened machines, so as to avoid this problem.

I have about 40 cartridges, but I have owned many more than that, and sold them on Ebay as I got tired of them. Ebay is a GREAT place to buy cartridges from. Even the newest ones have been really cheap lately!

You can do more than scrapbooking and cardmaking with the Cricut. You can also cut vinyl to be used for car decals and home decor, you can do glass etching, and many other paper crafts as well.

You said you wanted the good, the bad, and the ugly, so now I am going to tell you the bad and the ugly. Provo Craft's customer service is absolutely horrible! If you can actually get a live person on the phone, and your problem is a very easy fix, then consider yourself very lucky. But there have been times you can sit on hold for over an hour, and then they are not able to help you with your problem.

Also, they have computer software called Design Studio, so you can design stuff on your computer to be cut with your Cricut. You still have to own any cartridge you want to cut with, as it doesn't work without the cartridge.

It's good for certain things, but overall, the software has been outdated from the first day, problematic for many people, and PC doesn't know how to fix it. They have relied on us message board members to work out the bugs for them, but some things just can't be fixed. I recently got a new computer, and my design studio won't work with it. PC wasn't able to help me with a fix, so it's useless to me on that computer (which sucks, because this was to be my crafting computer). Thankfully, I do have it on my laptop as well, so I am not doing without.

This leads me to a couple other points. The software is only licensed for one computer, so if you want it installed on two computers, you have to buy two copies. Also, it doesn't work with Macs at all.

Ok, now back to the good. A third-party developed their own software for using with the Cricut, called Sure Cuts a Lot. This software doesn't work with the cartridges, instead it works with any True Type Font you have installed on your computer. There are literally thousands of free fonts and dingbats (think silhouettes) to download and cut with SCAL. This program works SO MUCH better than Design Studio - which is precisely why Provo Craft is threatened by it and invests a lot of money into trying to block it with firmware updates. SCAL has come up with ways around it so far, and SCAL has been almost flawless in design. They have released several updates, each one better than the last. they are VERY popular with Cricut users. Many people have said if they had to choose one software or the other, they would choose SCAL (including myself). SCAL works with both PCs and Macs.

I hope this info helps - I have never regretted my purchase, even though I don't have much time to use it lately. I still love it! :lovestruc

thought I'd add a couple pics of projects I've done with my Cricut.

This was all from the Tinkerbell cartridge. I decorated our door at work this past spring.

with design studio, you can make word books, like this:

here's a layout I did with the SCAL software. I used a Disney true type font for the title, and a dingbat for the design behind the photo mat on the right side. Mickey is from the Mickey & Friends Cricut cartridge.

Another layout, from the HD store in DTD. The title and the tatoo-looking design behind the pic were cut from true type fonts using the SCAL software.

here are some photo mats I created using the Mickey cartridge and the design studio software. I never did get these into a layout yet, but I still plan to... LOL!

ok, you get the idea. I use mine for lots of Disney stuff! ;)

Have you seen all the Disney cartridges they have released? There are lots of them!!! :thumbsup2

I have the expressions and LOVE it . I use it for scrapbooking , science project's for school and making some cards too .

I just got the original Cricut a little over a week ago - because A.C. Moore had it on such a good sale. I love it!

It came with a font called "George", which is OK, and includes all the basic shapes like circles, stars, etc.

I just won a Doodlecharms cartridge on eBay:woohoo:, and want to get a "puffier" type font eventually as well. (Suggestions welcome.)

So far, I've used it for scrapbooking, but I can definitely see cards and posters in my future.

One thing I like about cutting words out - like page titles - is that you can use the letters OR the "negative" piece they come out of.

thanks for the info so far....I am still looking at it but I really appreciate the input. I was thinking it would be good for card making but maybe I could get interested in Scrapbooking in the future.

Can Cricut be used to print on transfer paper? The type that you would use to make t-shirts.

Are there any beach or nautical themed cartridges?

Thanks

Thanks

I think it is called Life is a Beach...not positive though. I have the Expression, which I absolutely love. I add to my cartridge collection every now and then, I have 11. I don't think you will regret buying one.

Can anyone explain what the Expression can do that the other machines can't? Also, is the Expression their top of the line unit?
