...Elephants, especially with their trunks up, are symbols of Good Fortune and are known to be the granter of wishes. It is believed that placing an elephant in your office will lead to successful business meetings

It is also believed that for good luck, place a pair of elephants with their trunks up at the front door to bring good fortune and strength to the family...

* I have a question...should the elephant be facing the door or facing away from the door? *

We have a small sandalwood carving of the Indian elephant-headed god. DH's Dad went to India last year for business and gave him to us at Christmas. DD also has an Indian elephant carving- this one is a walking elephant.

I have an elephant...b/c it looks good and fits in with my Middle eastern/African theme...LOL. :p He is facing the door way.....just cause I would rather see his trunk than the opposing body part. :rotfl2:

I have an elephant from Africa - it was hand carved and it's gorgeous! It was a gift after I wrote a story about the man who was in town fixing the carvings. (Bad journalist!) His trunk is wrapped around a piece of wood (also carved stone.)

I have a small carved stone elephant that woman that works for me gave me years ago. I don't think it has much to do with luck. She told me it reminded her of my good memory, which admittedly was much better back then.

What were we talking about again?

I have a little sandalwood one given to me by a friend. He'd gone back to India to be married and brought the little elephant back for me. He told me it was for good luck and to make sure the trunk was facing north.

When we got married may very elderly piano teacher gave me a small brass elephant for good luck. It fits in the palm of my hand and has had a special place on my kitchen window sill for the past 24 years. I don't believe in luck, but i have to smile everytime i see that elephant. :goodvibes

Now I heard that they should be facing east for good luck???

I have a small one that sits on my night-table and a large "painting" that hangs in the bedroom. Dh always laughs at me when I pick out elephants. I am glad I am not the only one :)
