Does anyone have a cleaning schedule that they follow?

I don't have a cleaning schedule, even though my house would be cleaner/more picked-up if I did. I have a phobia of being "tied" into anything, even things as simple as laundry on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If makes me feel not free, if you know what I mean. I know, I'm strange, but there's always hope.

Not strange - I don't like feeling "tied" into things either - even something as simple as a doctor's appointment.. LOL

I don't think that is strange either. I hate being tied into a schedule, it is amazing I can get through my volunteer and school pto schedule . I only do it because I know how happy it makes my little guy.

He does mop because he cant stand the way I do it.. LOL ok that military training has come in handy. QUOTE]

HAHA....this is how I got out of changing bed sheets and folding laundry. DH likes his clothes all in little military squares and I just hate making a bed, so that's his job if he wants to get into a made bed at night ;0)

First off...the Flylady page used to drive me COMPLETELY bonkers with the constant emails, so I stopped using her.

Looking to see if anyone follows a cleaning schedule. I try to keep the house picked up during the week, but it always seems like I spend 75% of my weekend doing laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning the bathroom, etc. I'd rather try and space it out during the week.

Suggestions?

Seriously - in an effort to make my weekends my own, the best thing was a cleaning lady. Comes in on Thursdays, a team spends 4 hours here and the house looks amazing.

There are just not enough hours in the day.

My problem is that I don't consider my house clean unless I clean the WHOLE house in one swoop. I don't feel that "oh so fresh & clean" feeling if I do downstairs one day and upstairs another. Therefore, I spend an entire day cleaning, folding laundry (cause I hate laundry so I wash & wash & wash and just pile clean clothes in a basket until I can't take it anymore and have to fold them), etc. That day used to be Saturday but now that I'm a SAHM, I try to do it during the week while DD is in school, BUT, for some reason my house is 10x the wreck it was when I worked. I was WAY more organized and better at just about everything when I worked full time!

Me too!! If I don't clean all three floors fully at the same time I don't feel like my house is clean! Drives my Dh nuts:laughing:

I feel the same as previous posters, if my house isnt cleaned all at once I feel like it is never fully clean. I used to do all my major housework on Sundays and then realized that is my only day that I have NOTHING to do...why the heck am I scrubbing toilets? So this is my new schedule

Everyday chores
laundry - I throw a load in in the morning and delay the wash until right before I get home from work, so as soon as I get home I switch it to the dryer

Dishes obviously
wipe down counters
sweep kitchen
pick up clutter

Thursday nights
along with daily chores, bathrooms, sweep, mop, dust, vacuum

bedding is done every 2wks.

Girls room and closets are reorganized once a month or so.

Now I feel like I can relax on the weekends and I love it. Once in a while the floor will need to be mopped mid week and I almost always run the vacuum twice a week too.

Cleaning is my least favorite thing to do, so this is my lazy way:

I work and dh is home. I try to minimize doing it by making sure there is no clutter. During the week, the only meal usually cooked is supper and dishes are done immediately after. If anything is in the sink, it drives me crazy and I wash it (though I don't like to dry dishes to I air dry and reuse them :)). If I cook, dh washes dishes and vice versa. Laundry is done daily and I fold in piles and the kids are responsible for hanging/putting up their own. If I'm doing the laundry I put the shirts from the washer on hangers and hang them on top of the door jams, they air dry within the day and less to fold. Beds are made up every morning. None of us sleep with a top sheet so it takes all of 30 seconds to straighten the comforter up and stack pillows. Shoes have bins in the closet, unless its the current pair which is in one living room corner. Litter is scooped daily and we take turns as no one likes to do that (dh empties, cleans, & refills weekly). I wipe down the sink & toliet seat (thx to ds, lol) daily with wipes I keep on the br counter. The kids fight over the vaccuum, so that usually his weekly chore. Our apartment has 3 rooms to vaccuum and a hall, so not much. The kitchen is swept after supper after the kids wipe down the table since they drop crumbs and one of my cats is messy and knocks food out of the bowl. Toys, dvds, books, whatever have to be put up when not in use by the person who used it and their is a shelf or bin for everything. Trash is emptied daily, usually by dh.

We have very few knick knacks and no coffee tables as I like an open space with minimal dusting. We dust and windex a couple times a month all at one time. We usually do this on a Sunday morning-start in the bedrooms & dust the furniture then onto the living room. Next, windex the tv screens, bathroom mirror, and screen doors. All the sheets and pillowcases are thrown into the washer/dryer in one load. In the kitchen, I use wipes to wipe down the counters, appliances, sink, and cabinets. Sweep the kitchen & bathroom, then front & back porch, then vaccuum what was swept & all the rooms, then mop. Last is the bathroom toliet and the tub which I'd spray cleaner in and let it sit. Then I shower in my clean tub :). It takes about 2 hours at the most since there isn't any picking up to do beforehand.

Closet cleaning is done 3 times a year for the kids since they share a closet. Dh already packed up summer clothes (shorts, tanks, ss dresses, etc) and unpacked fall/winter. It's turned cold quick, so shortly we have to have the kids try on everything from last year to see what fits, then put up most of the short sleeves. In the spring, we pack up all the fall/winter and repeat the routine.
