does anyone have 100 pts?

I respectfully disagree with those who think 100 points is just not enough. While it might not be enough for you, 100 points does work for some. We started with a 100 point contract and are doing just fine. We are able to stay twice a year - usually in May and in Sept or Oct in a studio for usually 5 nights a stay, no weekends. We also bought at BWV because we love it there, and because we can choose a standard view room which saves us even more points.

We are always banking and never borrowing--in part because we bought a package that already had a supply of points (another benefit of buying a resale). I know those who stay in 1 BR's find it hard to go back to a studio, but for those who don't have it in their budget, the studio is just great and a huge cost savings over a regular Disney hotel room. This is why we bought because we were spending much more for a hotel room than we would if we just stayed in a studio at DVC.

I highly recommend if you are at all hesitant, to start small--you can always add on. Another benefit is that smaller packages are usually snapped up very quickly on the resale market if you ever decide to sell.

I would encourage you to download the DVC Planner by Casbill and play around with it. It is very easy to use and you can see at a glance what your point needs will be as you plug in different vacation scenarios.

I am going to have to stand in the line with all the other add on folks, our original estimate didn't meet our needs either and have had to purchase more points.

We've been DVC members since July of '92, then a family of 3, we started with 232. Now a family of 5, we are in the process of our 4th add on, 150 thru a resale. This will bring our total to 615 and we still borrowed points from 2005!! As others have posted we never seem to get tired of WDW and return often. Christmas time really eats up the points. Never been to Vero but love HHI.

I have a 100 pt contract which so far has worked just fine. However just yesterday I was booking an additional trip and wanted to conserve some points. Solution? I reserved Sun thru Thurs on pts and Saturday on cash with the 25% member discount. There's also always the option of renting a few points.
I would prefer to pay cash for a day here and there than to have more points than I need or want. For me, at least for now...... 100 pts is ideal.

If you want to trade in the future, it makes sense to do more points, if you are going to stick with DVC only, then 100 might be fine to start, you can as they say always "ADD ON."

I had originally written a contract for 150 at SSR as it is just my DS and I, but we like to travel to different places and am not so concerned about our "home" resort, so it made sense to change to 160 pts as dianeschlicht mentions. Now we have the flexibility to trade out to somewhere else if we decide to do a non-Disney vacation. I figured even if we don't use the points a particular year, we can rent them, or bank, but mine was a decision from 150 to 160 points, a much smaller jump.

Another option to consider would be to purchase a resale contract with 150-170 points with knowledge that you only need 100 points at this time. You could then rent out 50 or so of those points each year to help offset your maintenance fees. As an example, you own a 160 point contract. This year you only plan to use 95 of the points. You decide to rent out the remaining 65 points @ $10 a point ($10 x 65 = $650). In essence you have paid your maintenance fee each year. This option provides flexibility as you look toward the future in case you want to take a longer trip, stay in larger rooms (1br. and 2 br.) or take advantage of an II exchange.

I also have a 100 point contract at BWV. It was the only way to get my husband to buy in, because we could pay cash for it. But, I was lucky enough to find a re-sale with 100 banked points.

Since I bought that package last summer, I have stayed 5 nights at BCV (included 2 weekend nights) in a studio in November. 5 nights in a studio at BWV Standard view in January. And now we have 2 studios reserved for January 2005 at BWV - Boardwalk view (7 nights for one and 5 nights for the other) - and I only ended up borrowing about 15 points from 2005 use year. Not bad.

So I say it can be done, if you are willing to book studios during the week.

But I do wish I had more points. Right now we have 2 young daughters (9 and 4) who are willing to share a bed. I am sure that down the road that will change - especially when their baby brother shows up next February... (we are adopting a baby...)

Can you say add-on? I have already been checking out re-sales and figure I need at least 200 more points because with 3 kids I will want a 2 bedroom and won't want to switch hotels on weekends like I am willing to do now. Plus, I love taking weekend trips with my sister and all of our kids... and weekends cost mega points!

If you really wanted to trade/do teh Passport collection for a special year, bank and borrow. You'll have 300 points. That will do for many of the trades.

I would not recommend getting more points just so you can do the trades. Although we bought new and had to get the 150 minimum, I think we could be just fine with 100.

As for the 1BRs being nicer, the studios are still much better than a regular room. I still see it as an upgrade. Did you ever stay at a 1BR? If not, you won't miss it.

I'd rather add on than find out I had too many points.

I was able to swing 5 nights in a one bedroom at Vero and 5 nights in a studio at Beach Club for my 100 pts . My in-laws live nearby so we visit them for the weekends. Works out perfectly. They can't complain that we don't visit them at their house and we save points and don't have to spend our vacation in a retirement community.

Well, thank you for everyone's input. I am glad to see there are a lot of you who are happy with 100 pts. I am thinking that 100 pts would fit us just fine for now. Maybe next year we can add another 50 or so if we decide we want to. Thanks again.

Another 100 point owner here who is satisfied. We always stay in a 1 bedroom at BW for Sunday - Thursday in Jan. I think we skipped a year so we have points banked. Especially if you don't want to go every year, 100 pts is enough. We love Disney but like to go other places too. When we go to Disney, we spend the weekend at Universal on site and get front of line privledge. Good luck!

We bought 150 points last year. This past May we stayed for 9 nights in a studio. Next year we are staying 5 nights in a 1 br. Right now 150 is enough for us. Dh, myself and my 2 year old daughter.
