Do you work 9-5?

I'm a teacher, I'm required to be onsite from 7:30 to 3:30. I usually arrive at work by 7:00 and leave right before 5:00. I get 30 minutes for lunch.

I work 9-5 with a paid lunch. I work for a plastic surgeon and our lunches can vary from a free lunch when a sales rep comes in, eating cold delivered pizza in small breaks when there is a complicated procedure (such as lipo, or face lift) going on in the back, or when the Dr is in surgery at the hospital, when we all go out to Bravo, Bahama Breeze, or the local Japanese Steakhouse for lunch. Many times the Dr will pay for our lunch too. When I eat in the lunch room, I will answer phones so I don't have messages waiting for me when I get back.

I'd give up my paid lunches for some health insurance though. :sad1:

I THINK I had a 9-5 at one time but I do not remember where.

I now get paid for 6:30-2:30 and my lunch time is part of those hours. We do not leave for lunch sp we do not clock out. I am usually busy though and don't eat and I am usually there until around 3:30 but I just get paid for the 8 hours...NO overtime.

My office does not have set hours, except to be in no later than 9:30 "most" days. I usually arrive between 9:15-9:30, along with the majority of the people in the office, the time I leave varies depending on how much work I have. I also always log in on the evenings and weekends to check e-mails and deal with any issues. Lunch is almost always taken at my desk, but occasionally I will eat out with my boss or with colleagues on a Friday.

I love that we do not have set hours or a set lunch break, and that my work seems to be full of night owls! Everyone works hard and puts in, on average, far more than 40 hours a week, so they don't see the need to define our hours. (Except for our admin assistant/receptionist, who has set hours of 9:30-5:30 but always works later.)

Hmmm, so very few of us work 9-5. I love flex time, I come in 30 min early and leave 30 min early. I think the "9-5" job term should be abolished, because just in this sampling, it is a rarity for someone to work those hours. I mean, it's not a big deal. I was just bored, LOL

I work 9-5 for a local made to order bakery/cake shop. I don't take an actual lunch break(30 minutes to an hour) We are so busy that I take a break where I can get one. I'll stop for 5 minutes to shovel in a sandwich or take a quick rest. I do this throughout the day, so it does add up to a full break, just not all at once.

Work in an office and I work 8 to 5 as everyone in our office is supposed to do. We have an easy going boss though and some folks take advantage of that and work less hours, usually coming in later. They often stay later but rarely work a full 40 hours, IMHO.

im a defense contractor-our standard duty hours are 0730 to 1630 (430 pm). We get an hour for lunch and 30 mintues of company time for physical training-three days a week i come in at 0630 to allow for an hour of PT time-and usually finish my day around 5 pm. When training is in progress and there are soldiers in the facility or we are supporting downrange our hours change to meet the customers need and the shifts are usually 12 or 13 hours with no lunch or PT breaks.

I used to work 8-4:30 with a half hour lunch. But last year my boss let me change my hours to 7-3:30 with a half hour lunch. But on days my MIL picks up my daughter I usuall will work until 4 or 4:30.

I work 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch, though I rarely take a full hour. We now have a time clock and sign in on our computers. Before that, some people came in around 9-10, took an hour lunch and were gone by 4. On Fridays, about half the employees disappeared down the back steps by 3, leaving the rest of us to cover their phones, pull documents, etc.

It's too bad a time clock is necessary, but those of us who have always worked full time are happy with it:thumbsup2

In NYC I always worked 9-5 with 1 hour of lunch in the middle. But my DH has only worked in NJ & Pa and he has always done the 9 hour thing with 1 hour for lunch in the middle, right now on a 7:30-4:30 schedule.

I work 9-5.

I have a half hour lunch (which they're obnoxiously flexible with... just about no one is exactly 1/2 an hour) and we work a 37.5 hr work week.

So yes.... 9-5. :)

Yep, just like you described -- 9-5 M-F, 1 hour lunch (unpaid). Law firm hours. :thumbsup2

I work 3:30pm-12am. :upsidedow The people at my office who work 1st shift work 9-4:30 with 1/2 hour lunch. They're salaried at 40/wk, however.

I don't work, but my husband works 8:30-5 with an hour lunch.
His job before this was 9-5 with an hour lunch and his job before that was the same.
He's an accountant, his current job and his last job are/were for large companies, his job before that was a small family company.
He is salaried, and gets paid for 40 hours/week no matter what he works. Sometimes he gets in before 8:30, sometimes after, sometimes he leaves right at 5, some days he's there until 11pm.
They are flexible with your lunch hours, no one is watching the clock-as long as the work gets done on time, and you're at work every day they're fine.

I don't, but my sister works 10-6 (she gets paid for her lunch hour). She works for a very large law firm.

ready for this?

I work Tues 10-5, Wed 8-5, Thurs & Fri 10-6 and Sat 8-4.
One week a month, I work Mon 8-5, Tues 10-5, Thurs & Fri 10-6 and have Saturday off.

Talk about confusing!
