Do you wear dresses at the parks when its hot?

I wear cute golf skorts, and I love skorts by Athleta. Very cute! I wear these during the summer here in Chicago.

And I'm not a golfer. :)

My guesses - thigh chafing. And, also, the type of dress they wear might be more prone to flipping up. Mine are fitted around the waist and torso and stay down, but I've seen larger ladies in more loosely designed, flowing garments, that might be harder to keep down over their butts when they're climbing in and out of rides.

I suppose that makes sense. I'm not skinny, I'm averaged sized i guess, and I had no trouble riding anything with my sundress. As,long as it's a decent length, you can tuck it between legs when on coasters etc. I suppose if skin chafing is a concern, lightweight shorts would help. I just think that would be hot. There are also products you can purchase to apply to skin for chafing issues...not sure of names of products but I'm sure someone would know...

I wear dresses and skirts all the time. Especially fit and flare dresses with light fabrics. if I know it's going to be a super breezy day, I wear one with hem weights.

No way I am wearing dresses at Disney - or anywhere else for that matter! :crazy2:

Running/exercise shorts and dri fit tops or Eddie Bauer Travex items are the "go to" for me... easy to wash, pack and very comfortable!!

We go in the summer and I wear cotton dresses or shorts to the park everyday....but not at the same time. Cotton dresses are awesome. I only wear them at Disney, never in my real life.

Last July, I wore sundresses with skimmies underneath and was very comfortable!

To answer all the questions -

If your thighs touch, most women's shorts will chafe or ride up, especially when it's super hot and sweaty out. Bike or compression shorts will not, as they are tight. They are also usually made of thin fabric and many are designed for wearing while exercising, so they handle sweat well. However, I would not be caught dead wearing bike shorts, or anything similar, out in public.

So, by wearing the bike shorts with a skirt over it, you are as cool as you would be in regular shorts, don't have to worry about shorts riding up/chafing, and don't need to worry about people seeing things they shouldn't when you go on certain rides. Plus there will be no photos of you in bike shorts at the park!

When it's warm, I wear a dress almost every day because that's what I'm most comfortable in. For the same reason, I usually wear dresses in WDW. (FWIT, I'm tall with an average frame & I've never had an issue with indecent exposure in the parks.)

Haha...now I feel like a freak bc everyone says that wouldn't just wear bike shorts at the parks! I don't exactly wear bike shorts....but I wear a shorter version! I call them my hoochie shorts! I just find them very comfortable...and I don't think they are really inappropriate. I just get self conscious as I start to bloat from all my bad eating as throughout the week!

I've never liked wearing shorts, so I'll wear skorts or a skirt or dress with slip shorts underneath. Jockey makes some that are great. They have a few styles that are heavier and intended to be shape wear. But the ones I pick up are more like underwear. They're just longer and help to prevent chub rub. :)

Very thin and short bike-type shorts under a skirt is much cooler and more comfortable (for myself and my teenage daughter) than a thicker short. As others have said, the shorts prevent thigh rubbing (for me) and also help with climbing in and out of rides, etc. It's just a personal preference, like someone choosing to wear a cami or tank under a shirt.

I can see the value in thin cotton dresses with bike shorts underneath, but I just go with shorts and tanks. That way I don't have to buy anything special for the parks. I live in GA so it's my usual summer attire.

I always wear dresses or skirts at the parks. I don't wear shorts, and never had a Marilyn Monroe subway grating incident. A skirt is actually much nicer than pants after Splash Mountain as the wet fabric doesn't cling to you as much- you dry faster.

I wear the jockey skimmies under a dress, they are not nearly as thick as a regular short are so it doesn't make me any hotter. I am short so when I climb in and out of rides I don't want to have to worry about if I am lifting my leg higher and exposing my underwear.

Last October during F&W we were by the lake in one of the high tables. A gust of wind came out of nowhere and lifted the dresses of a little girl and her mom that were walking toward us to join her party. Little girl thought it was funny but mom was mortified that we have seen her underwear. Her dress was more on the short side and a very light fabric otherwise I don't think the wind would have been able to lift it.

Another one in the corner of shorter sundresses and biker shorts underneath. To me, it's the best of all worlds. Super comfy being loose and soft everywhere, good ventilation on hot days, and looks nice for family photos (and what mom doesn't adore (in my case hoard lol) PP pics with your growing up too fast/life is too short family:love:)

HI

I am over 65 and wondering what to wear for my next trip. I usually wear capri length pants, but don't know if they are the best for the heat. So wondering if dresses past the knee are better. Wonder if they work getting in and out of rides like Splash, and Space. And how about the wind?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Susan

There's not much wind to speak of in the parks. I wore sundresses the whole time on our vacation. It was so much cooler. I wore either just below knee ones, or full length maxis with comfortable sandals and sports bras. It was great. Had no problems on Splash, the other roller coasters etc... I didn't bother with shorts underneath, I didn't find them necessary with longer skirts/dresses.

shirts/sundress with biker shots under or for fun a "sparkle skirt" google for the website. a running friend of mine wears them for her road races - fun skirts with attached shorts - they come in 2 lengths with pockets in the short part and a zippered waist pouch. Fun for park touring with some really nifty prints, not inexpensive, but very comfy and practical for the warm days
