do you wake up family members in your villa/room etc. when youre away?

When I go on vacation there are days I wake with an alarm, and days I don't. If someone tried to wake me up by making noise on a non alarm morning I'd be taking all the MB in the bathroom for a LONG leisurely bath, lol!

Personally, I feel it's disrespectful to wake people up unless the wake up time was set the day before. If we all agree to be up by seven, and someone isn't 't waking up, then fine, make some noise. But if the first person wakes up at six, then they should be quiet and allow the others to sleep until the appointed time.

Just one more reason I prefer my solo trips . . . .

In the early years, DH and I would enjoy quite time on the balcony enjoying the sun rise. As the years went by, we would go for a quite walk around WL and then start opening drapes and rustle the kids. More recently, DS would go on a long (7-10 mile) run every morning. DH and I would go for a quite walk around WL and when we returned, if DD was not awake we would wake her up, saying we are leaving soon for breakfast at OFC and she could meet us there whenever she liked. She would always toddle close behind. :rotfl: (NOTE: she takes for-ev-er to get ready!!!!!!!!! Still at 21!!!!!!

Open the curtains, turn on the TV and get ready for rope drop.

I wake them up. And wake them up and do it a 3rd time and maybe they will get out of bed before I leave them.

I've got teens and a husband who doesn't like to get up before noon on vacation.

Mostly we just tend to wake up early on our own. We have used wake up calls and alarms. If we have an early departure flight, I set every noisemaker possible!

I don't usually wake others, but is annoying if my extended family agrees the night before to be ready by 9am, then sleeps until 10am. (but I can't get too mad if we've only had five hours sleep.)

That said, if I wake up very early, I really enjoy sipping coffee peacefully before the rush of the day begins. That's the only time I use my balcony (if we have one). It is magical to watch the sun come up at WDW. Quiet lakes, empty pathways, beautiful gardens...

Our 4-year-old starts off the trip by waking us up around 6:00, but near the end, he's "sleeping in" until 7:15 or so. If he's not waking me up, I usually wake up by 6:30 and can't fall back asleep. I always feel like it's Christmas morning and can't wait to get up, eat and go to rope drop. Just don't do what I did last year: we were all up and had eaten and DH and I had had our coffee, and so we figured it was time to get rolling to DHS. We were the first people at the turnstiles, and we couldn't figure out why. It was because we'd gotten there at 7:30, and the park opened at 9. Never doing that again!

Being from the west coast the time change is a killer especially the first few days. We leave the drapes open about half way so the sun naturally wakes us up.
This discussion reminds me of the Middle last night. How in the heck did they sleep 'till 3:00?

I'm guessing you're British or Australian? I love the "whilst"...my husband is Australian and he still uses it too.

As for me, we stay onsite and I always schedule the wake up call every morning with a Disney character telling us to wake up. You just have to make sure you put it on speaker phone. It's usually Stitch and REALLY loud. I'm hoping they've changed it as it has gotten a little annoying after 10 years!

We were just there a week or so ago. Olaf has taken on wake up call duty.

I simply shout, "GET UP OR GET LEFT BEHIND!!!", loudly. The kids are all old enough to know I mean it.
Give me Rope Drop or give me death! :rotfl:

In my defense, I do make an early solo trip to the food court and get everyone their favorite goodies for breakfast before I go all Drill Sergeant on them!

yes but only because we live in Los angeles. if i let everyone sleep in till they naturally woke up, we'd never get anything done.

Yes. But our last trip was Christmas week.

We were waiting for the bus to MK at 5:50 am. (We took naps in the afternoon though).

I travel with my two children. They are 11 and 4 so no option of leaving anyone behind. :rotfl:

If we are going for a pre-park opening breakfast, I'm up first, around 6:15 or so. If we are just trying to make rope drop, my son is usually up when I wake up around 7:15. I put on sunscreen and get dressed and can put sunscreen on the children. If he isn't up already my son usually wakes up while I'm putting sunscreen on his face.

My daughter sleeps like she worked the night shift so usually it takes more effort to get her up. Sometimes it is just. "Hey, do you remember where you are?" She's been enough times now that she sees the advantage of getting up and getting going. I learned over time what motivates her.

We have found it is better to do the late night stuff in the first couple of days when adrenaline is high. So I try for MSEP and Wishes near the start. It worked well on our first 2 trips. Saved it for the end last summer and missed it, so it's back to doing them on the first night this trip. Then for the balance of the week we aren't out past 6 or 7 so we can get to the room and relax and get to sleep early. We sleep in a bit on departure day because all I plan for that day is breakfast, checking the bags and some time around the resort.

My kids are always up between 5-6 every morning, doesn't matter when or where and what time they go to bed. One time my DD went to bed at 11 pm and still was up at 6. Anyways usually they are waking us up at Disney. Once they wake me up-I'm up. But I never have that luxury of sleeping in. I actually wouldn't even know what to do with myself if I ever could sleep in. DH is not a morning person so unless we have a breakfast scheduled, he sleeps in. Usually I will take the kids to the pool then he'll join us later on.

My kids are still very young and they require eight hours of sleep at the very least. So we don't do breakfast ADRs or rope drops, but we do tend to stay out later.

Some days we set an alarm but we always build in days where we don't. Also, our teen dd (17) often decides to not come with the rest of us in the morning. She heads back to the parks with us after our midday break or meets us there.
Trust me, dragging that kid around the Magic Kingdom without enough sleep would make it waaayy less magical.:rolleyes1

Our kids tend to wake us!
We always share a room so once one person is awake there tends to be a domino effect.

Looks like I'm in the minority here but we all sleep in and gradually wake up. No alarms or rope drops for us. After all this is vacation and there is no way I'm waking up at any time that remotely looks like a typical work day.

My thoughts are we have travelled so far, paid so much-were going to enjoy as much as we can.
Lie ins are permitted before we leave for vacation, and when we return.

Disney is my get up and go time.:cool1:

We are about the same as PP. DH gets up to go to the gym. He's very quiet. When he get up I get ready. By the time he's back I start waking everyone up. I open drapes and start fixing breakfast. Can't wait until NOV/DEC trip when that "open drapes" will be into the savannah!!

I have barely teens 13 yos. They aren't happy campers in the morning but I ignore them, they perk up eventually.
