Do you THINK out of state residents will be allowed...

I totally get that! It has to be frustrating in Californians right now. I guess I missed where people were being dismissive - not saying it didn't happen, I just haven't seen all the posts yet. Thank you for responding kindly, I do appreciate that.

I think I was just taken aback when something insignificant (such as talking about the economy in terms of locals and tourists) was deemed insulting and then some start talking down to others and telling them to use their words wisely. Everyone contributes to the economy, especially Californians since they live there. But tourists are also the bread and butter of the Orange County economy. Hopefully things will get back to normal quickly and this can all be a distant memory!
I don’t want to speak for anybody else, but I think it came from some repeatedly saying they weren’t local, so they’d bring just as much to the OC economy as somebody out of state would and have the reply be about being local. For example, where I live, I would bring just as much revenue to the OC area as somebody coming from UT or AZ because we have the same needs when we get there. I don’t necessarily think it’s how it was meant, but it did very much read (to me anyway) that there was a higher value put on out of state tourism dollars than in state.

And I think two different things were being discussed. Those of us in CA were trying to explain that what was allowed would easily be filled by in state visitors, so it wasn’t really an issue, while others were trying to say the restrictions were the problem.

And I get the frustration. I do! But I also understand the restrictions, based on how strict our rules have been here. While location may be arbitrary, it is fact we have done a lot of work for the last year and we don’t want to see it undone. Because in the end, the people in the state will suffer the consequences of any spikes.

I don’t know if that makes any sense? And yes, hopefully by the time they open, it’s close to a moot point.

It makes complete sense! I read the back and forth differently and felt one side was overly aggressive. But I understand how it may get frusterating for in-state to feel that people are not giving as much weight to their dollars. Any money pumped into the economy is going to be great for the entire area. Time will tell when they open back up and the restriction is still in place whether the area surrounding the park is impacted by no out of staters. Business may boom once the parks open back up, but we probably won't know for sure until then.

I do think a lot of people don't realize how big CA is. I had relatives come out from the east coast and met us at Disneyland. They then asked if we might "drive over to San Francisco the next day for a couple hours." We explained that was a 6-8 hour drive one way. They didn't realize it was that far. I am a tourist to Disney's economy. Half to 2/3 of California's population of 39 million are tourists to the LA area.

Disney is likely to open in the Orange tier. They are close. And I think they will do it Memorial day weekend. Opening with a 25K capacity will help more than 15K. But it could be sooner!

When Newsom first said 120 miles radius for travel to a theme park, I did think that would be a problem to the economy. But that was Disney's fight, and Disney did feel they couldn't do it was that limited of a distance, thus Iger stepping down from Newsom's board.

I was fully expecting the 120 miles limitation honestly. I took issue with it before only in that I wondered how it would affect my pass. I rarely talk about my AP being gone on the boards these days due to the negativity and celebration for its ending that happened, but it was a concern to me because if my pass restarted, would I lose time simply because I live several hundreds of miles away?

I feel it's promising that the in state restriction could be lifted sooner than later that we didn't start with the 120 mile restriction. And that things moved to red tier instead of yellow. I don't even want to take a guess when, I stopped guessing reopening days months ago, but I'll be thrilled when things can open to more.

I have friends on the east coast over the years that don't understand why I can't just pop over to Disney. Why I have to plan trips in advance and can't just go on a whim. I'll have people tell me they're in SoCal and ask if I want to meet up!

I even get "Come visit California!" ads fairly regularly (in the before times). They're not even for specific locations. They just advertise to the state to come visit the state and show me a ton of different places :confused3 . And I do. Most of the tourism I do is within California.

Can we add the hypocrisy of saying out of state tourists are worth more to California being an issue? I thought we just covered this that no one deserves more than another person to go for any reason. We're all in this together. We all want the parks to reopen. I had my entry media stripped from me after being told for almost a year it would be extended, have no idea when I'll be able to get entry media of any sort again, and I still want it to open for those who will be able to go.

I'm appalled by the behavior of some people today and frankly as of the past year.

I'm just so relieved there is a light at the end of the tunnel! A few months ago, I wasn't sure we'd be getting to this point.
Me too. My daughter and I regret we didn't drop everything and head down Mar 12, 2020 to spend the last day. But we thought "Oh, this is going to be 2 weeks, a month at most...." In Dec, I wasn't sure we'd see an opening this year.

I think vaccination rates could drive the lifting of the ban on out of state visitors. As vaccinated numbers continue to rise nationally, that has to bode well for welcoming back out of state tourists. I hope.

Same.I took mine on 3/5 and wish we’d gone the last day. We don’t even live in California anymore. I feel like we’re never getting back to Disneyland.

California changed their tiers based on the number of vaccines given. And I am sure when we hit 4 million people fully vaccinated, we will get another change. But I also don't know when the CDPH will change the travel advisory. I think other states will need to get more vaccines out to help get the CDPH to relent.

The president has said by May 1, there will be vaccinations available for anyone who wants one. If that actually happens, I don’t see how you can justify banning out of state guests, UNLESS cases are for some reason rising etc. I mean, at what point is it enough? Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I just don’t see how you can justify a travel advisory if national vaccine numbers are tracking the way they’re expected to over the next few months. I completely understand why initially they want to wait and see. We won’t come back to California until it’s lifted and tourists are welcome. We have plane tickets for the summer, but will use them as credits and either wait or go elsewhere. We will be fully vaccinated by April 1.

I edited my post to add that I realize he said everyone will be eligible by May 1. I’ve received many responses about vaccine shortages... that’s the current situation. However, production is supposed to be increasing pretty rapidly, and I’ve read from multiple sources that by early summer, we are supposed to have a surplus of vaccines. This shortage is not forever. So while the state may not open up the theme parks to out of state residents by Memorial Day, I stand by my statement that once vaccines are widely available to everyone, you may see that change sooner than some of you seem to think. Or maybe not!

Actually his words were by May 1st, everyone would be eligible for a vaccine. He wants all states to drop eligibility requirements on May 1st. That sounds good, however, people eligible for a vaccine are having trouble getting one. My daughter's school will be starting to vaccinate teachers in 2-3 weeks. When vaccine arrives for them. My mom (80yo) got her first jab in early Feb. But her second vaccine (Mar 3) was canceled as not enough vaccine has arrived. She is waiting for them to call and schedule when available. It is said we will not have enough vaccine for everyone to actually get vaccination until summer, and they are upping using the National Guard and FEMA to get jabs in arms. California has only vaccinated 2 million so far out of 24 million adults. We do have another 3-4 million who have gotten a single dose to date, so we will have 6-/+ million vaccinated in the next 30-45 days. But that still leaves CA with another 15 million adults to be vaccinated.

Biden said . make every adult in the U.S. eligible for vaccination no later than May 1

The other wildcard is vaccine refusal - some states are already having issues getting people to take it.

That’s very true. I keep forgetting every state is so different. Plus the population of California is so high. Fall may be more likely. At least locals will be get enjoy their theme parks!!!! Happy for you guys!!!

Believe me, I want it to open for all. Because, when we open to all, it means we are close to "normal".

I know it’s been touched on, but it’s something that had been lost in translation every where. He said all adults will be eligible for it by May 1st. And that is much different than all adults CAN get it. Distribution has been terrible, especially in CA. So it won’t matter much how other states are doing until we can pick up the pace here. The number of vaccines my county is getting the next two weeks isn’t leaving my hopeful.

I too hope the restrictions are lifted soon. Every step that gets us back to normal is a win.

And non locals! Only out of state are barred for now according to current guidelines. They dropped the 120 mile radius/locals only thing that existed previously. All in state residents are eligible to go. Whether anyone can get tickets will be another story :lmao:

Here's hoping we're able to get the vaccine roll out here to the point that guideline can be dropped and visitors to California will be welcome again. Our supply has not been very consistent, sadly, so that's not helping us move forward as quickly as we would all prefer.

.
I hear you on the normal. We lived in California until December. It’s like a whole different world there.

I swear I have culture shock just going to other states. I'm so used to Cali. Should have seen my horrified face finding out a friend in another state threw his soda cans in the trash in another state and just straight up had no recycling bin at his house and can/bottle recycling centers weren't really a thing (I know why it is here with CRV, but it's not something I think about; it just is a fact in my life it's something we do).

I'm still so sorry the parks didn't reopen before you moved :( . Seemed so impossible a year ago they'd be closed that long. None of us could have imagined then they wouldn't have opened before you moved so late in the year let alone wouldn't even be open a year after being closed.

Disneyland and the Anaheim local economy depends on tourists, whether those tourists are IN state or OUT of state, and whether you live in southern CA or northern CA or central CA...we're all DL tourists. One thing I'm sure we can all agree on, regardless of whether you live in CA or not, is a lot of us really love Disneyland and we miss it terribly.

I think that DL won't reopen to out of state visitors until the fall.

I'm frustrated that I have DL tickets we can't use. We went to WDW in January and are going again in early June, when we will sweat more than you can imagine. I like WDW a lot. But there are little things about DL that I really really miss and I really want to go back.

Could I go right now on a road trip from AZ to Anaheim, stay at the Tropicana, just to go shopping in DTD? Yes. A coworker of mine did that a few months ago. But if I'm going to drive all the way to southern CA, I want to go IN Disneyland. I'm not interested in the $75 Taste of Disney event at DCA. I want the whole thing...rides, shops, restaurants. Fireworks & night time shows? I'm willing to pass on that. Character meals & meet & greets? Also willing to pass on that. I really want to go on the DL POTC, Peter Pan, and Mr Toad's Wild Ride.

I'm mad that it's taking CA so long to reopen. It's been frustrating.

Awwww thank you. It’s ok. We were lucky enough to be able to experience Knotts at halloween and taste of merry farm before it had to shut down. Honestly, my kids want to go to Knotts more than Disneyland right now. I think it would be challenging, and now that you can’t even remove your mask unless you’re actively eating, I don’t know. I think it would be tough for my youngest. But we’ve never experienced Knotts in “normal” times, so we wouldn’t really have any preset expectations. My youngest just wants to meet snoopy again.

We are in Texas, and had major PTSD after being in California during the pandemic. We are in Austin, and people are really good at wearing masks, and we haven’t seen a change at all in mask wearing, even though there’s no longer a state mandate. But omg. Having my kids thriving in school is AMAZING. I’m half vaccinated and my parents are vaccinated, my in-laws are vaccinated, and my husband goes tomorrow. It’s much easier to get vaccinated here.

I will be rooting for all of you Californians to get tickets!!!!!!
