Do you think 14 YO will like this?

We were at a total loss as to what to buy SO's DS this year. Then, in a glorious wave of inspiration inspiring music playing, bright light shining down on me (okay, so someone in Best Buy was trying to see just how much noise a car stereo could make and the bright light was the headlight from a forklift type thingy ) we decided on a mini refrigerator. His room is already set up with a tv/vcr/video game - why not let him make his "batchelor pad" a little more comfy?

Would this be considered a "cool" gift, no pun intended?

How much time does he spend n his room? Does he have friends over who are in there with him?

He does have friends over and I would think he spends a fair amount of time in his room, atleast he does when he stays with us.

I think I would have LOVED that as a teenager! Actually, I think that would be pretty cool now LOL. Be sure not to put in a microwave, too, or you'll never see him!

I think it's a great present, Missy. He'll love it. I used to have a mini fridge in my bedroom when I was a teen and I loved it.

Are you buying it for his room at his mom's house, or for his room there at your own house? If it's for his mom's house, I'd check with her first to make sure she'd allow it.

I have a DS14.... he has a friend who's parents bought him a fridge for his bedroom last year. DH and I would never let our DS have a fridge in his room, though. I don't think it's wrong that some parents allow it, it's just something we don't want to do. We don't see any reason for a teenager to have his own stock of soda in his bedroom. Also, we don't want to encourage our DSs to spend any more time alone in their rooms than they do already, which so far, isn't much at all, mostly just homework at this point.

But teenagers by nature tend to want to spend more time in their bedrooms and less time with the family, the older they get. I understand and respect this, but still I won't let DSs have fridges in their rooms. They already have enough in there; tvs, vcrs, dvd players, computers! LOL I at least want them to have to come out for food and drinks. LOL

So to answer your question, I think your SO's DS14 would love it, but make sure it won't cause any problems at his other home, if that's where it's intended to go! If its for your home, then there's no problem.

My DS's had one in their room and it was great. It actually freed up space in the kitchen fridge. It kept the sodas and water nice and cold and we would end up taking some from their fridge.

Having a fridge in his room shouldn't be a problem. And thank you Seaspray on thinking I'm a cool stepmom.

I can't wait for him to open it. Of course, we need to figure out a way to wrap it...
