I know this is a photography board but i was just curious how much video, if any, people shoot at WDW?

I know in my case I shot much more than I anticipated when we last visited in June 2011. It was my nieces first visit, 4-1/2 and 1-1/2 at the time, so I wanted to also get there reactions on video. I also brought a GoPro which I mounted on the stroller and used on some rides.

My husband does all the video. He doesn't like it when I do it because while I can manage to be rock steady for a single image I can't seem to for video. Unless I use a tripod for video (which I did for the film classes I took) my video makes people nauseous. I do, however, do a lot of the video editing in our house.

Not yet. Will be hitting Disney shortly with a Canon hf g10.

What happens? Who knows. Also going to try out a new Canon D20. It's waterproof. Got that for walking the beaches of Sanibel Island.

Let us know how it goes!

I tend to only video special shows, like 4th of July fireworks or the castle projection show (because its so hard to time each effect for a photo)

I did take a BTMRR ride video that turned out quite well.

Overall I prefer photos because they are more "portable" so there is more viewing opportunities.

Some subjects just call out for video, like British Revolution. I took some of Osborne Lights and Swan Dolphin Lights too. It is just so easy to switch from stills to video with micro 4/3! ;)

My son has a video camera that he got for Christmas last year, and it never entered a park on our Disney trip. I plan on using it this year, as I have commandeered it :)

For those that take video, how much of the footage is of Disney stuff (i.e. shows/events/rides/etc) and how much is of actual family and friends enjoying Disney? I was recently going through my video files and noticed that while I have tons of photosof family, the majority of my video files don't have a single family member in them. I'm probably 70/30 for a family-to-stuff ratio when it comes to photos but probably 20/80 when it comes to video.

I'm going to WDW the end of March, and one of my goals is to get more family in my videos.

Just wondering if anyone else has such a large difference in the photo/video habits.

Most everything we do, be it photo or video, is of the family enjoying Disney. We're not big on videoing rides or shows.

I think hat probably varies depending on how often you go. In our case it was my nieces first visit and mine in the last 20+ years. So family was the focus. For our June trip I'm actually planning on shooting more photos without the family.

It depends on what I shot with. I brought a GoPro and one of the things I did with it was attach it to the stroller and just let it shoot video of us walking around. Out of the hours worth of video we shot, a lot of it wasn't worth much, but it was easy to shoot and we did get neat stuff out of it. I've got 2 nice videos, which I've since speed up of our Walt to and from the Swan Dolphin and Epcot. I also got a nice video of my nieces reactions riding BTM! The vast majority of video from my point and shoot was of family.

That was mostly the case for me also. Of the ride videos I did shoot, the best of it was getting reactions, mostly my nieces. That said, the video I shot of Beauty and the Beast Musical, edited down to the songs, is by far the most requested and viewed by my family. My youngest niece likes to watch it at least once every time she visits.

Which gopro do you use? I was thinking of getting one to use in the waterparks/ I hant to go with Black 3 but hear they are very unreliable.

I might go with the 2 since those are still available. Thanks!

At that time I had the GoPro Hero 960. Worked out nicely at the resort pool, but we only swam one day. I now have the 2 with the wifi back and remote which will come in much more handy at the parks. The ability to view your video (4 second delay) is extremely handy. My video from WDW was fine, but that would have helped me frame it better. The biggest issue with the wifi is that the battery is used up fairly quickly, so I suggest and plan on getting an extra battery and some type of portable battery pack. I think it will, but not sure if the wifi back will charge while being used. If not it will when your not using it.

I have also seen the negative reviews on the 3. It seems to be fairly hit or miss with people. If you end up getting the Hero 2 I would suggest getting the special diving housing for better underwater video. The case that comes with it is OK at best (underwater) and probably the reason they redesigned it for the 3.

I use the video on my camera....not a seperate video camera.

I also do not have kids, and am just videoing for the music, costumes & or characters, so I can relive it over and over when I get home.

Mike,

you are talking about the GoPro Dive Housing (Flat Lens) correct?

When we go, we will be hitting the water parks and want to use it for slides, wave pools, etc..

What kind of mount are you using or planning to use?

Thanks!

Alex

Yes! I don't have one because I don't shoot under water much, but I think they run $40.

Don't have anything for the water! I do have the handlebar mount which I used on the stroller, and the tripod mount, I mainly use on a monopod or tripod. This summer we were at a lake with a pontoon and I used a monopod with bungee cord and a water noodle around monopod. I also have the suction cup mount, but haven't used it much yet.
