Do you remember the Disney yellow ponchos?

I have a large assortment of ponchos, including yellow ones, that I keep handy at our lake house as well as for Disney trips. I remember a trip way back in the 90's when about 12 of us went to DS (MGM) and it started pouring. We all dutifully purchased yellow ponchos and joined the sea of yellow heading to TOT. My brother, who fancies himself a comedian, suddenly hollers out "Hey, you in the yellow!" About 150 people turned around to see if he was talking to them.

I guess you had to be there...but we chuckle about it everytime we break out our ponchos at camp or at WDW. Here is a site for those who are nostalgic.

We still have four yellow ponchos. Which reminds me, I need to find them and set them aside for our trip!

I still have a yellow poncho from Hurricane Erin in 1995. Talk about a sea of yellow ponchos!

We used to buy new ponchoes each time just because they had different characters on them! Then I guess Disney figured out they could save .34 cents on each poncho if they were all printed with Mickey :lmao: Now I bring a travel raincoat and don't bother.

(Sames goes with mugs, I used to buy a refillable mug each time we went down because they were all different for each resort and neat looking. I don't even drink soda! But now I don't bother. In fact I used to budget oodles of money to buy watches/souvenirs etc. Now I just avoid the dreck that passes for Disney merchandise these days....)

I know what you mean, we stopped getting souvinears because they are pretty much all the same.

now the only thing we get is a few pins, we try and find ones with the year and/or WDW. (to have something different than the DLR ones we get.)

(we actually have several disney pins from DLR and WDW that are exactly the same, except of course one says Disneyland and the other says Walt Disney World!)

YES! Wish my mom would have kept ours, the newer ones are so cheaply made, fiance ripped 2 on our May 09 trip....and boy we needed them ALL DAY, EVERYDAY last year.

I remember the yellow ponchos because when I was 11 my grandparents took me to Disneyland and my grandfather (we call him him Tex) was wearing a hunter's orange colored shirt and I joked how I would never lose him in the crowd. Well then it started raining and everyone turned yellow... but Tex, he refused to wear one so he was still this bright orange in the midst of yellow! :rotfl:

We were "Yellow Poncho People" for years.:rotfl2: We have been wearing light weight rain jackets from Dick's Sporting Goods for years now and we like them better than any poncho.

Add me to the list of the ones the still have their yellow ponchos. I wear them to the Colonel's Cotton Gin Riverside Mill to refill my Dixie Landings mug. ;)

LOVE THIS! haha

I still have my yellow ones and I still wear them to the parks. It makes me feel like a seasoned pro lol There are some days when I miss the Attack of the Yellow Poncho People....

We still have our 100 Years of Magic Yellow Ponchos. We were excited to get to try out the clear ones on our last trip, but it never rained. Darn! :lmao:

i have my yellow and the 1st issue of the clear ones and use them to cover my seats at fenway as to not to rip them actually the yellow one has a small tear in it and dont want it to go anyfurther.

they do make a yellow colored duct tape that will cover it if you put in on from the inside!pirate:

Still have mine from 6 years ago. I guess I'm really cheap as I'll bring it along with me again this trip.
Jim

Just went on a trip last week with my grandparents. Being ever prepared as grandmothers are, my grandmother brought her stash of yellow ponchos that came in very handy during one night of absolutely torrential downpours at the MK. She told us that night that she had bought them at Epcot on a day when she and my grandfather had been caught in a bad storm - way back in 1983!

Have to say they looked good as new and certainly seemed more durable than the clear ones they are selling now. In any case, a fun bit of nostalgia...

I remember them well but ours are all gone. Now I bring with me my cream colored one that I got in 2000 at Animal Kingdom. Mind you I didn't get it because it was raining, I got it to ride the Kali River Rapids. Looked silly, but stayed dry. :lmao: DH and kids get the plain ones from the dollar store ;)

OMG I remember the sea of yellow! Our first trip in 2000, it rained pretty much the whole time, and everyone was in yellow :rotfl:
I remember my sister and I wearing backpacks under the ponchos and 'buzzing' because we thought the bump beneath our ponchos made us look like bees. we would find a big group of yellow ponchos and go buzzing towards them 'swarming'. Yea, we make our own fun in the rain in disney!

We still have our yellow ones.:thumbsup2 I like the durability of these better than the clear.

On our first trip when our children were 5 and 7, we would start every day by reminding them the shirt colors we were wearing for the day, just un case either child took a few steps away from us. On a drizzly day, I told the 5 year old to remember that mommy and daddy were wearing yellow today because of our ponchos. She took a few steps, turned back around after seeing a sea of yellow, and said "That's not funny!" Sure it was.

Same trip we took an email picture postcard to send to a friend who lives in Florida. She said at first when she looked at the photo she wondered when WDW got a duck ride?

Our yellow ones actually had Pocahontas on the back...man that was a long time ago! I always thought the seas of yellow were a little funny, maybe that's why I love the pin with mickey and his yellow poncho.

We actually had some of the clear ponchos from the mid 90's. Unfortunately 2 years ago they finally gave up. I'll miss them, people used to comment on them all the time.

We still have two yellow ponchos from way back. We bring them on our trips and hope we don't need to use them!

I used to have one of those tan colored ones with Mickey in Safari clothes on the back. I actually liked that one better than the yellow ones. Oh well.
