Do you really want to go back to WDW so soon?

Same here. I won’t take Zantac anymore. I work at a hospital and praying they don’t make me get a vaccine in the first year!
When I worked in the hospital (retired Respiratory Therapist), we had no option with the flu shot. Get it or be terminated.

I think I’m seeing a bit of paranoia on this one. Yes, I agree with being cautious and following guidelines, but some folks here are cancelling nearly a year out.
Well what is going to change within the year? It has already been reported a vaccine will not be ready before 12-18 months. At least banking ahead preserves the points instead of waiting until the last minute AND hedging any changes with the banking option.

People really have to do what's best for them and their family.

If you feel it's not safe then simply Do Not go. If you feel it is safe then go. No one should be putting down the other person if they decide to go or vice versa.

I have 4 trips planned this year and I plan on going on every one of them if they are open. Will I do things differently, ABSOLUTELY. Maybe I will do one trip that will be hotel only, maybe one trip very limited time in the parks etc...

Everyone is going to be different in the way they handle their upcoming trips.

I used to feel the exact same way. However, I've been hearing some very positive news regarding advances in treatments.
Still not sure however.

We have a cruise planned for November and the kids are saying they don't think we should go. As far as WDW we have a trip planned for September that I was hoping we'll go but now I'm not so sure - it was kinda for EPCOT F&W and now that might not happen.

I see so many posts speculating on when Disney parks and resorts will reopen. The boards ares loaded with posts of members wondering if they will be able to make there May and June trips. First of all, many are highly disappointed that they had to cancel trips, many are disappointed that they may lose points. When will Disney reopen is the question we seek the answer to every day. But...........

Do you really want to travel to Disney as soon as you are allowed to? At heart we all do, but in the name of safety and practicality how good of an idea is that. The President is itching to reopen the country. His Easter projection is now April 30th. When they wave the green flag and the country reopens, that does not mean the pandemic is over and it is safe to travel. Covid19 will be with us for a long time.

Food for thought. Do you want to be on a plane rebreathing everyone's else's air for hours? What about standing in lines next to people who may be infected and having them cough on your back. Do you want to get on a ride and sit in a seat that an infected person was just sitting in?

This isn't meant to sound like gloom and doom. But so many including my family are itching to get back to the parks. But just be mindful that just because the parks reopen, it doesnt mean its safe to be there. The last thing you want to do is rebook a trip and then have to cancel again possibly losing points if you are outside of a window.

By the way I am a healthcare provider directly treating covid19 patients. This is real. Stay home and be safe, when you can return be careful.
After there is a vaccine, I hate to admit.

I know life has to go on. Without a definitive treatment or vaccine, it just feels too soon for us. We have long ago cancelled both our dvc stay and cruise for September. It’s December we are having reservations about....:headache:

There is no right or wrong, its all personal circumstance. I do think you are going to get a division - people who think life is defined by breathing, and people who think life is defined by experience. The former will be much more cautious, the later are going to go on like nothing happened. Again, not passing any judgement on either group, I just think its what will happen.

Personally I am busy trying to figure out how to keep my vacations and cancel work, but I am falling short on it.

While we cancelled our early May trip to WDW, we figure our Oct travel is "mostly good to go." I've also begun scanning the discount cruise sites ... and beginning to feel that draw back to the sea. Perhaps we'll find some good deals to complete our world-cruise-in-pieces.

I am a Respiratory Therapist in a large medical center in Philadelphia. this is NOT just an URI as you put it. Our acuity is 3x's what it normally is. We have people dying every day from this. We are stretched out to the max with 48 beds in our ICU and having to use other areas in the hospital as COVID units. I believe you should also do your own research that is objective and use the data because this is deadly right now and we do need to flatten the curve . Now is not the time to "Get On With Normalcy"

Hang in there. I’m the OP and a RT on Long Island. A lot of these responses rile me up as well. We take these posts very personally as we should.

And this is why we went ahead and cancelled our November WDW trip. We were just there last November, so it's not a big deal to wait another year. We were able to preserve our points by banking them into 2021. I feel like this is going to be a long road ahead of us, and I want to be cautious (not really paranoid as a previous poster called it). We left our October HHI trip intact but instead of booking a back-up, we went ahead and banked our remaining 75 points into 2021, just because we know we want to take the whole family there next June and I would need points from both years to do that. If we decide to cancel October, I'm hoping there will be availability for March.

My family and best friends returned from a trip to Walt Disney World, planned far in advance with rented DVC points, on March 14, 2020. Initially I refused to watch the news while on vacation, but by Thursday of our trip we learned that the World would close the parks on Sunday, March 15, at close of business. I honestly felt guilty to every cast member I saw for finishing our vacation while they put themselves at risk. I know cast members need jobs, but I have to tell you that my vacation isn't worth putting someone else at risk to clean my toilet or sanitize a ride vehicle. We were already planning a 2022 trip, and that will be the next time we return. There is a lot of debate over rights and science and data in this thread. I wanted to share that I was actually there when it started to get scary and my heart hurt to think of the fear of cast members reporting to work so they could keep their Disney jobs.

I really do not want to go back to disney or any crowded place soon after this is over. With the new information that is being released almost daily, it really makes me wonder. Now, they say even when you talk that you release microdroplets that can infect someone. Plus, a new study has shown Coronavirus germs 13 feet away from an infected person. This isn’t just if Disney keeps things clean, this is even someone talking can spread it through the air. That has nothing to do with how clean the bathroom is. That is just being in close proximity to so many people. Even if they reduce capacity, will you still need to wait inside for lines for rides? What about parades and fireworks shows? What about any show? How will seating at restaurants be? Plus, if the virus can live on some surfaces for up to 4 days or more, what about the hotel room? Will they be sanitizing everything? We have cancelled our three week Disney/Universal/seaworld trip and our two week Busch Gardens Williamsburg trip as of now. Those were for May and June. I still have a Canada trip on the books for June and July. I feel a little better going to less densely populated places but still not even sure if I will keep that vacation. It is hard to think about traveling and risking my immune compromised son and/or my older parents. If someone became ill, I would feel horrible and responsible even though it would be everyone deciding for themselves. perhaps We will wait and see what happens after the country is opened again. Just wondering if we will see cases skyrocketing a couple weeks after everything is reopened.

The question is a hypothetical one.
It is impossible to answer without knowing
  1. When Governor DeSantis' executive order pertaining to the residents of Louisiana, and the NY Tri-State area will be lifted
  2. When will Disney open for business again?
  3. When Disney does open, will it be a phased opening? If so, what is the timetable to get back to full operations
  4. What mitigation plans will Disney have in place to reduce the spread of the virus?

Good for you!! I too will be a retired Respiratory Therapist on 4/17:) what part of Pennsy are you from?
Hanover, PA!! So miss my RT days.. I know EXACTLY what my fellow practitioners are going through. My close friend still practicing says they are using reverse I/E ratios with high PEEP in the prone position on these Covid-19 vent patients.

Proning helps most but not all. They started out treating them like ARDS its. his peep low volume high rr. Most did horribly because their lungs very compliant and not stiff. What I've found interesting is that their gases were relatively normal with Pao2's in the 40's and HgB's 7-6. The o2 transport system just doesn't work.
I've been in the PFT lab and doing Bronks over the last 9 years of my 35 yr career.I've been running gases ,turning around vents and doing transports on non-covid's since we closed the lab 3 weeks ago. This is a beast that we've never seen before. Running 40-50 vents a day.Stay healthy my friend.
