Do you keep your lawn up ?

We do too. But since we got the new pup, he has been trashing everything. He is a crazy loon that drives ny DH nutz.

:rotfl2: No way. We have 3 1/2 acres. Our major goal is to keep the scotch broom and blackberries from taking over.

Back when we lived in the city, we did keep our lawn nice, and dandelion-free (snap they little heads off three times in a row before they can go to puff, and they die. No need to pull them).

No, we have 2 acres and live in the middle of the field. But all of the lawns around us look about the same, mowed and that is about it. DH jokes that if we used weed and feed we wouldn't have any lawn, because our whole lawn is weeds.

Basically when the houses in our area were built on part of a large farm, the houses were built and the field mowed and that is about it.

The last owners left the yard overgrown and a total mess.

This was the front yard when we moved in

This is how we redid it last year

The backyard was in better shape, but it has still taken a lot of work to fix it up. DH takes pride in making the yards look nice.

wow, that looks great, nice work

Yes, we spend a good amount of time on the yard.

I used to when I was a SAHM.with working and my kids schedules I have no time to do yardwork...I am lucky i can get one of us to cut it weekly.

My city yard was fabulous, every blade of St Augustine was the same height, sparklin' pool, gorgeous flowers 'n shrubs. :cloud9:

Now I live on 10 acres, it looks like a park, but I only mow it. Oh 'n I trim trees...all year long. Do we have a tired smiley? :rotfl:

Yes, but we hire people to do it for us. Most people in our area do. My husband used to do it himself, but since he went through cancer we find it easier to just let the experts take over.

Sort of. I keep it cut. I don't do any grass grow stuff.

my neighbor across the street and next door to him seem to have a competition of who can have the prettiest lawn.

I just have better things to do then to go all out. he has well water so constantly watering it. but he still have brown patches as he doesn't have any shade in his front yard.

He also planted a tree in the front and told me he wasn't worried about it coming down later because he KNEW the best place to plant it.. it was a couple years old, a Nor Easter came and knocked it over on his wife's car.

my next door neighbor has bushes that in the back yard are over 7 feet tall. his house on my side has bushes that cover his windows. and when i go out to put trash into my outside trash can, i hear things scurring in the bushes day and night.

The development I live in, which is a 55+ community, does all landscape maintenance. If there is any problem I let them know and they take care of it. The irrigation system is separate from house water, so there is no direct cost for watering.

If I want any specific plants or trees, they will charge a fee for installation but then the maintenance will be part of the routine.

And, if I wanted to have a garden to tend on my own, they would set up the area for me and that would be my responsibility to maintain. If I let it go wild, they would just reinstall and then care for their basic landscaping.

Yes! I love a nice thick green lawn under my bare-feet as I walk around and to sit in when DH rests his head in my lap and we enjoy the sunshine. We have a service mow it now because DH's job/commute is too time consuming and I get killer migraines when I mow, but the cutting part is only a portion of the care. The lawn needs to be weeded, fertilized, insect prevention, bare spot repair and dog mess clean-up. Now that we did a bunch of landscaping in the front that needs a load of attention too. It's hard work to make things pretty but its such a joy to come home to, so I do it:yay:

We are having a drought. My yards looks like crap. I am watering it right now. Left the sprinkler on all night last night... :headache:

The grass is cut- but our edger needs a new thingie so the edges look a bit rough.
My frenchie loves the long grass near the house. She rolls around in it. It makes her happy. So my poor landscaping skills are making my dog happy.
We used to pay to have someone cut the grass but it got to be too crazy expensive. He was cutting for at least 8 months out of the year at $240 a month.
I'm sure my neighbors wished I used the lawn guy. But I noticed 2 other neighbors are doing themselves now. Really it's no big deal. Particularly since I have a teenage son!:rotfl2:
