Do you keep your lawn up ?

We like a nice lawn too - but not the hard work. We put fake grass in the backyard. Looks just like the real thing and absolutely no work. :goodvibes

The front is just a strip that keeps the mulch off the sidewalk. Not much to do there either!

We keep the grass cut and trim the bushes, but that's about it. I'd like to do more, but there's not a lot of time (or money to hire someone else to do it).

The last owners left the yard overgrown and a total mess.

This was the front yard when we moved in

This is how we redid it last year

The backyard was in better shape, but it has still taken a lot of work to fix it up. DH takes pride in making the yards look nice.

Love your stone "lawn." Much better than the neighbor's grass. IMO maintaining a lawn is a horrible waste of time and resources.

I thought this thread was about manscaping, hygiene and personal grooming practices.. :)

Yes, I keep my lawn neatly trimmed... Both :rotfl:

We live in the city: no front yard, and a backyard the size of a postage stamp. We keep the grass cut, but we have a dog....which would explain the condition of the grass...

This new neighborhood of ours is hilarious. Everyone is retired and they all have those pattern makers for their Scottslawn grass that is loaded with chemicals. If one person mows, everyone else rushes out to mow. thank goodness the woman before us was not into lawn care. We've upgraded things but we in no way intend to keep up with the retired neighbors. Oh and we've been here a year and only three people have even talked to us; too busy manicuring their lawns I guess. I miss my old neighbors where everyone socialized and you only got in trouble if you neglected to mow for a really long time. Actually, we all mowed each others often. Please, those of you who insist on a manicured lawn, do not look down your nose at your neighbors. :)

I try. My husband won't do yard work unless I nag him all the time so I gave up on him doing it along time ago.

My teenage son mows once a week and edges once a month. I pay him for it. When he is grown and gone, I'll have to hire a lawn service.

I prune the bushes once every couple of months and in the spring and fall have to put down new pinestraw around the two big trees.

And I hired a company who handles the weed killer stuff.

Our lawn looks good especially compared to the folks in our tiny neighborhood who let their weeds/lawn grow knee high before mowing it.

We have very high maintenance yards (front and back) so we have a gardener. The same gardener takes care of our rental property too.

Well, I was trying. However, there arer certain areas I cannot mow due to steep hills or dips and I always seem to twist my already bad knees. To top it off, DH is obnoxious about the lawn(I wont be surprised to find him out there with a ruler one day measuring the grass length:headache:) No matter what I do out there, it is never right. I always get lectured about how I don't do this that or the other properly. I finally told him "Fine. I was trying to save you time so you can enjoy the time you have off. Now you can do it all." I won't be touching the lawn again this year.

Yes we take good care of our lawn, but sometimes it really is hard to find the time. I get my 11 year to do the mowing most of the time. They banned pesticides here in Canada so it gets really tiring picking all those weeds, but get them all I will! Really everyone in our neighbourhood have beautiful lawns so if I don't keep up I'll feel like a pariah:headache:

The development I live in, which is a 55+ community, does all landscape maintenance. If there is any problem I let them know and they take care of it. The irrigation system is separate from house water, so there is no direct cost for watering.

If I want any specific plants or trees, they will charge a fee for installation but then the maintenance will be part of the routine.

And, if I wanted to have a garden to tend on my own, they would set up the area for me and that would be my responsibility to maintain. If I let it go wild, they would just reinstall and then care for their basic landscaping.

This is what I want! :thumbsup2 I HATE my yard (well, the house, too, but that's a different story). When I retire and move, I want a much smaller yard with very little maintenance. If fact, in my perfect world, green concrete would work great! :rotfl:
