Do you have any strange annoyances?

Things that for some irrational reason really, really annoy you?

For me, it's to hear people eating or drinking. Chewing gum doesn't bother me for some reason, but to listen to someone gulping down their drink or chewing their food really, really bugs me. It's like fingernails down the chalkboard.

I'm not talking about someone being obnoxiously loud, either. Don't know why it bugs me but it does. :confused3

So, what are some things that drive you  for no good reason?

My father always drove me insane at meal times with his chewing. He chewed with his mouth closed, but it was so loud, it was hard to sit through a meal. Maybe that was my teen angst showing through, because I haven't noticed many other people doing that these days.

?

Thats so funny you say that - cuz that is what I was gonna say! :rotfl:

I HATE hearing people eat! Disgusts me!!

And you should hear my almost 15 y/o eating a bowl of cereal! AHHH! I have to leave the room.

(and now I see someone else mentioned it too! Funny! :lmao: )

Sort of related, but not really.

Equally as bad as fingers on a chalkboard? Someone scraping their fork/knife/spoon against their teeth when they're eating. I hate that metal-on-teeth sound. Gives me chills just thinking about it! :)

People who slurp their drinks. Use a straw if you can't drink without slurping.

As horrible as this is going to make me sound... accents. There are a few people at my office who have this accent that makes me want to claw my ears out.

I hate loud eating, too. This guy at work drives me nuts. He has his headphones on and apparently can't hear how he sounds when he eats and drinks. I have my iPod on, but I can hear him over it. We have to share a small office a few days a week to manage a room full of paralegals and I want tear my hair out at just the thought of sitting near him. He eats like it's the first meal he's had in ages and puncuates every slurp of his drink with "ah!". Slurp, slurp, slurp....GULP....AH! When he chews, he makes this "sha, sha, sha" noise.

For good measure, he snorts everything in his nose back and then starts hacking because he swallows it all. Yeah, gross, I know....try listening to it for hours on end even though you have Eminem on your iPod so loud you're afraid of becoming a news story about people made deaf by iPods.

Fingernail clippers!!! :scared:

Just something about that clip...clip...clip...drives me insane!

This one is very, very weird: I can't take some people's whistling. I have some pretty massive ear problems, which results in hearing loss, but also some high-pitched noises driving me bonkers. Whistling falls into this pitch range. I realize people think they are perhaps lightening the mood in an office by whistling, or communicating they are happy about something. That is why I bite my tongue and won't criticize people for it. I hate to rain on anyone else's parade. But man, I just dread hearing the few in my office who do it on a daily basis. It just makes me feel like my head is going to explode, and my ears are practically ringing in the first 3 or 4 seconds of it. I feel like telling them, "If you can't whistle like the person who whistled the Andy Griffith Show theme song, please don't try to learn here!"

Fortunately, my hearing is bad enough that I can't hear people's chewing (usually). It just goes to show that hearing loss doesn't ALWAYS have to be a bad thing. ;)

I'm sure I have some stuff I do that drives others crazy, though.

My coworker has been doing that since, seriously, September. Most annoying sound ever. One day, a guy a few cubes back from me emails me "Do I hear Green Day?"
heheh

oh - this same guy...when he eats, it annoys the snot out of me. It's the not the actually chewing/digestion part...but the "tap tap tap scrap scrap scrap" sound of a plastic spork against tupperware. Drives me nucking futs some days.

But the one thing that ALWAYS gets me...is my dog. Love her to death, but I yell at her to leave the room every night at 9. Becuase you see, every night at 9pm she gets her "Kong" from the freezer filled with peanut butter. (keeping it in the freezer makes her 'work at it' a little longer" but the tongue licking/slurping..omg...drives me nuts! I'll be in one room and say "Go see DH!" she'll run into the other room, DH will tell her "Go see Stinker!" The dog will do this back and forth for liek 3 minutes before she finally finds her own room! hehehe

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I feel your pain!!! :rotfl2:

This is why our dogs don't get "kongsicles" too much, and definitely not late at night! ;)

First thing that popped in my head was - i cannot stand when people crack their bones...Any bone..fingers, neck, back, knees, ankles, etc...Gives me the heebie geebies...However, i have no problem cracking my own...Go figure...

Edited to add - Hearing someone grind their teeth... :scared:

This one is gross. I can't stand to listen to other people blow their nose. EEEEWWWWW!!!

well here's some advice...don't EVER give it at a set time.
Our dog can tell time. and she KNOWS when it's konger time!

of course - sometimes she's off and will start bugging you around 6:30pm for it.

other times she'll just sit next to the freezer and sigh. it's too funny...

Similar to a previous poster, I have very sensitive hearing especially with certain types/pitches of noise. Just to name a few: I can't stand to listen to anything motorized such as the vacuum or blender, high-pitched whistling, metallic sounds such as pots and pans banging together, or even the sound of ice being emptied into a cooler or the sink. It's not just that it's annoying, it's quite painful.

This is what is really weird, though: it hurts my ears to hear that clanging noise shopping cars make when you pull one off of a stack and the seat bangs down. I have no idea why because it's not that loud at all, but still, it hurts! So I always grab hold of the seat when I pull my cart out and let it down gently. And if anyone else is grabbing a cart, I will wait outside until they are finished!

OK, it's about my DH. Don't tell him :ssst: I can't stand to be in the same room with him when he is eating. He has to have something in both hands at all times. He has his fork in his right hand and has to have a piece of bread, a drink, potato chip, remote whatever...in his left hand. It makes me nuts. I'm not done yet.....he also breaths REAL heavy while he is eating :furious: :headache: :sad2:

I really must be the most annoyed person in the world, because ALL of the above things annoy the crap out of me. However, there are some WORDS that people use in everyday talking that just make me have spasms!
Here's part of my list:
-scrumptious, portion, veggies, flavor, PANTIES...

When my family really wants to get on my last nerve, they say something like, "Oh, this is scrumptious, can I have another portion of those full of flavor veggies!" and somehow they always throw in the word panties for good measure!!! I am weird, I know. :)

Weird that I should see this today, I was just thinking last night about one of my hugest peeves. Ok, the chewing thing, I thought I was the only person in the world with that particular eating disorder, I can't stand it, I don't like to hear people eat chips or other crunchy things, but when its not something crunchy, like hearing someone eat steak, or bread, omg, it bugs the crap out of me, you can hear saliva swishing around, uhhhh, I have to turn the tv up or start talking loudly or something. It irks me big time.
Another thing for me (I'm sure I have many, but another one that bothers me alllot is (hopefully I can explain this one, so everyone will know what I am talking about) (hubby did it last night) when a person is comparing 2 words, and they say "same difference". For instance, Sally says: "I am going to the park" Molly says: "you mean you are going to the playground" Then Sally says: "Same difference" That may just be a Southern thing, don't know if you have ever heard something compared that way. But I hear it too much and it drives me nuts. My question is: How can you say same difference, when you mean 2 things are alike? Shouldn't it be "same likeness"??? :confused3

The sound of saliva splitting!! It happens when people talk on soap operas and when people eat. It is the same sound when you stir a pot of buttered pasta. :stir: ..ICK!!!! I passed it down to my 10yo daughter. She can't stand those sounds either!!

Melissa

I don't think the eating one is "strange" because too many of us have it.

I have a weird one...I cannot stand the "crowd noise" when my dh is watching a baseball game on tv.
