Do you get your nails done or do yourself?

My younger sister does mine lol. I buy the nail polish and I bought a dotting tool kit for her. She does a great job with painting and decorating. She watches youtube videos for inspiration. I will get a pedicure every.....4 months maybe. But its not important for me to do so.

I almost never get my nails done. I enjoy doing them myself, especially my toes. It's not hard and it doesn't tickle when I do it. :)

I did get a shellac manicure before my last Disney trip because I wanted the manicure to last and I knew regular polish wouldn't cut it. I loved the way they looked!

I just got a mini-pedi this morning. I love getting my nails done. I used to get acrylics when I worked at a jewelry store but I don't get them anymore. I get the shellac now and I love it. We are going on vacation next week and I wanted them done. I pretty much have them done for vacation, special events or when I just need a me day. I used to get a pedicure every two weeks but since I moved I hadn't found a place that I likes as much as my old spa. I went to a great place this morning so I may get back in the habit of getting them done on a regular basis. :cloud9:

Most of the time I do them myself, but my fingernails split and break easily. I got a set of the pink and white..I'm not sure if they're considered gel or not, just before vacation. I just got the first fill in and had the sticker shock. :rolleyes1 I don't think I'm going to be able to keep it up. I may try the shellac. Does that make them stronger?

How much do your fills cost??

My first set of gel nails (had to have tips added) was $60, and every fill after that is only $30, unless I get REALLY crazy with the nail art. Add $5 for a tip and I only pay $35 every three weeks.

My fingernails break easy too, and I find that having that UV-baked gel coat over the top makes them SO much stronger. :thumbsup2

I never look at people's finger or toenails, unless they have some garish design there, in which case my reaction is, "Ew". I keep mine manicured and neat, but I think paying to do that stuff to oneself is a complete waste of money.

I am the exact opposite. I always look at finger nails and toe nails. To me it is a way to judge of good grooming. Anyway, yes it can get very expensive, but to me it is something that is very relaxing and one of the very few things I do for myself. I don't consider it a complete waste of money because of of what it does for me, and I don't consider myself a waste of money. To each their own.

I agree completely. Good grooming says a lot about a person to me. (Not to say that people who do their own nails aren't well groomed.)

Manicure weekly, pedicure every other. I used to do gel but I'm off it for now - was definitely weakening my nails.

I first started getting my nails done in the basement of a dormitory when I was 20 for $10 a fill...now (18 years later :scared:) I am still getting them done. I have pink and white acrylic. I love getting my nails done. But, I've never had a pedicure. I have feet issues that I wish I could get over so at least in the summer I could I have nice looking toes, with maybe a hidden Mickey on them;).

I never get manicures. I think that long nails with ridiculous swirly and garish designs on them are seriously tacky. I have short clean nails, and I leave it at that. I also think its a huge waste of money.

Sometimes in the summer I get a simple pedicure with red paint because my feet get a little rough from the beach and the garden. Aside from that, at home I occasionally exfoliate them, and keep the nails clean and clipped short. If someone had an issue with my feet being clean and natural then I'd say it's probably not me who has a problem.

well, not all manicures are about super long nails with designs and sparkles. Mine are medium length and normal. And I don't think anyone has said anything about clean feet being an issue. You do your own version of a pedicure and manicure and some like others to do it for them.

I have gel nails, and have them painted french. I like the way french looks (esp in the summer), and the bonus is that I can go 3 weeks between fills b/c you can't even see when your nails grow b/c the french blends in with the new growth.

I also get french pedis (with gel polish) in the summer. In the winter, I only get pedis when I want to splurge a little or have a special event.

I do my own! I have about 100 bottles of nail polish now. I change colors every week. If you use a good base coat & top coat you can get them to last longer but I like switching it up every week. My favorite drugstore brand is Revlon. My favorite high end brand is Butter London. OPI is just ok with me. It chips more than a lot of the brands I own.

Pedicures are the best money I spend on myself. I can do it myself but I'd rather pamper myself a bit.

I'm at the nail salon right now getting a manicure and a pedicure. I try to get a manicure once a week, but don't always make it. Pedicure every 2 weeks. It's very cheap around here though...both together cost me $22 with tip.

I get shellac nails every two weeks, and a pedi once a month. :)

I actually LOVE getting a pedicure, but it always seems to wreck havoc on my toe=nails. If I leave the paint on for more than a week, my toe nails turn yellow and get beat up looking. And while manicures are nice, as a horse trainer it never lasts more than a day before my nails look like I clawed my way out of a fresh grave.

I do both. I love getting my toes done in colors that take me 4 times as long to do myself because I have to clean up so much around my nails.

I'm rough on my fingernails so I rarely pay to get them done and just usually do them myself in a neutral color. Unless I have a special event or a vacation :)

Trust me, if I did my own you would say I wasn't well groomed. lol. I just can't paint my nails for anything, talk about coloring outside the lines. :thumbsup2

Shellac is basically really thick gel polish. It does start to peal after a week and a half/two weeks depending on how rough you are. DO NOT peal it off. That will rip up your nails. Shellac needs to be soaked off in acetone.

A manicure does not mean you have inch long fingernails with flowers or anything else. It means you have your nails professionally done. Right now my nails are about a millimeter past my finger tips and done with French tips. I always get French or a solid color on my fingers. Not everyone who gets a manicure gets fake nails and not all fake nails are that long. And I really don't understand your last sentence. No one cares about your feet. I get pedicures mainly because it is very relaxing for me and yes it looks nice. I love having my feat and legs scrubbed and massaged.

I was told by a nail tech that the darker colors, like reds, are bad to leave on for very long. I don't know if that is true or not as I usually don't have any problems. But you could try lighter colors if you have not before and see how that works for you.

Man here, so I'm not really qualified to respond, but I have to ask. Do you ask people to take their shoes off so can look at their toe nails? :lmao:

I'm really sorry. I just could NOT resist that! :upsidedow
