Do you get your nails done or do yourself?

Shellac is basically really thick gel polish. It does start to peal after a week and a half/two weeks depending on how rough you are. DO NOT peal it off. That will rip up your nails. Shellac needs to be soaked off in acetone.

A manicure does not mean you have inch long fingernails with flowers or anything else. It means you have your nails professionally done. Right now my nails are about a millimeter past my finger tips and done with French tips. I always get French or a solid color on my fingers. Not everyone who gets a manicure gets fake nails and not all fake nails are that long. And I really don't understand your last sentence. No one cares about your feet. I get pedicures mainly because it is very relaxing for me and yes it looks nice. I love having my feat and legs scrubbed and massaged.

I was told by a nail tech that the darker colors, like reds, are bad to leave on for very long. I don't know if that is true or not as I usually don't have any problems. But you could try lighter colors if you have not before and see how that works for you
.

Ooh! thanks for the tip!

Man here, so I'm not really qualified to respond, but I have to ask. Do you ask people to take their shoes off so can look at their toe nails? :lmao:

I'm really sorry. I just could NOT resist that! :upsidedow

Well yes as a matter of fact I do require all men to take their shoes off. ;) Actually, I notice if they are wearing flop flops, otherwise no I don't. But I do notice nice finger nails. I hate chewed up nasty nails.

When I took the blue off my toenails today (first time I'd worn it), underneath it looked like I'd spent a day barefoot in Jennasis's barn. :scared1:

Such a bummer since I'd just gotten them back to normal after that last pedicure. I hate that about colored nail polish! :headache:

:lmao: My DD had a teal blue color on her toes when I took her in last time for a pedicure. It took that poor woman forever to get all of that off. It was horrible. We laughed when she said "No more blue for you, you hear?". :rotfl2: For real, any color like that stains the nail, but somehow it also stained her skin. :sad2:

I always keep my nails done in the French manicure. I like it because it matches everything I wear. :upsidedow

I love the gel polish, I have my own lamp and polish,
and do it myself, it is as easy as putting on polish.

It paid for itself quickly!!! Purchased at a local beauty supply store
that also sells to the public.

I love it, no more nail breakage, polish lasts 2 weeks.

I have a cosmetology license, but my friend also purchased the same
system on her own and does have the same results I do!!!

I KNEW I saw someone running around down there!

I notice too. It amazes me sometimes to see someone with really cute sandals on and then you notice grody looking feet! Sorry, not attractive. I think I'll probably switch to a regular manicure instead of the artificial nails. I do like them; I have the french tip too but I don't think I can keep it up. But being a nurse I work with my hands and people seem to notice. I keep them short too but I have had a lot of compliments. It's litterally if the only thing I splurge on for myself. All of my extra money goes to my kids.

I never get manicures. I think that long nails with ridiculous swirly and garish designs on them are seriously tacky. I have short clean nails, and I leave it at that. I also think its a huge waste of money.

Sometimes in the summer I get a simple pedicure with red paint because my feet get a little rough from the beach and the garden. Aside from that, at home I occasionally exfoliate them, and keep the nails clean and clipped short. If someone had an issue with my feet being clean and natural then I'd say it's probably not me who has a problem.

My nails aren't an inch long :confused3 Just because one has nice nails and they take the time to manicure them doesn't mean they are an inch long with swirly and garish desings on them. :rotfl:

I actually LOVE getting a pedicure, but it always seems to wreck havoc on my toe=nails. If I leave the paint on for more than a week, my toe nails turn yellow and get beat up looking. And while manicures are nice, as a horse trainer it never lasts more than a day before my nails look like I clawed my way out of a fresh grave.

Use a good base coat and it will stop the yellowing, as will using lighter colors as PP suggested. I always have color on my toes and seriously a good base does wonders. When I do dark colors on my nails I use a base coat also, otherwise yes, they can discolor. :)
I like the Sally Hansen and Revlon base coats but I love the Zoya base, it's a lot more $$$ though so the Sally Hansen & Revlon are good ones to buy at the drugstore. :)

I do my own except maybe as a treat on vacation. I think the key to achieving a quality at home mani/pedi is your tools. Invest in a good set and you will see a difference over just clipping and filing your nails.

I'm pretty good at doing my own nails but I hate the upkeep of the skin. You know using a cuticle remover and snipping off the dead skin and all of that stuff. So I go every few months to have a mani and pedi so they can do that and I just use a scrub in between and do polish changes myself.

I usually do them myself. I do get a pedicure at the beginning of every summer and then before a vacation--so 2-3 times a year. I used to have acryllic fingernails, but once I had my kids and stopped working I couldn't really justify the expense and it wasn't really practical to have long nails with babies--at least for clumsy me. I do love the way a french manicure looks though. I wish I were talented enough to do it myself. I usually put a clear coat on my fingers and a color on my toes.

I do my own, its cheaper. Had them done once because I had a coupon and didn't think the manicure lasted any longer than if I'd done them myself. Usually do them at night while on the computer.

Both. About twice a month, I have them do them as a treat.

Never paint my fingernails. So not worth it- I teach preschool and my hands are always in goop/paint/water.

I get a pedi when I need it in the summer, and in the winter, I just cut my toenails myself and don't use polish. I wear socks all winter anyway.

I used to get my nail done..after I found these things called Jamberry Nails. I do mine myself. I love these beauties they are shields that you put on with a hair dryer lol. I confess I ended up signing up with the company as a consultant.

What kind do you own? I wondered if those home lamps would have the same effect.

I love to get my toes done but usually leave my nails plain & filed. I cannot seem to keep from chipping my fingers within a day or two. I don't go on a regular basis but would if I had the extra time/funds. I usually get a few pedis a year and do my own the other times. I love having painted toes.

I started getting mine done again...pink and white. I love, love the way they look but it's already getting expensive.:headache: What do yall do? Your own manicure or pay for it? Just curious
I did mine myself- here's my Minnie Mani!

I got acrylic nails once, years ago. I loved how they looked but they destroyed the nails underneath. Never again!

I do my nails myself. My hands get pretty rough treatment, so even if I'm super careful with topcoats, ect, they get trashed within a few days. While I'm taking classes at school, I'm not allowed to wear any kind of polish at all, so if I put any on, I can only wear it during the weekends. Not worth it to me to put in all the effort of putting it in just to take it off again.

And I can also attest to the horrors of blue nail polish. I have a bottle of navy blue polish that I LOVE on my fingernails but OMG is that stuff terrible to get off! I've literally turned my hands blue. I also have a blue glitter polish, which I also love, but you can imagine what THAT one is like to take off... :rotfl:

Very clever!! :cutie:

i just keep my nails trimmed short and clean but have had them done in the distant past for special occasions.
it is such a bother (for me) but i admire the nail work on other people.
if i had my nails done i would like a french pedicure and that would be it.

I usually do my own nails, but for special occasions I'll get them done at the salon usually with acryllic nails.

Also at least once a month (or every 6 weeks) I'll get a pedicure and a professional manicure. It's usually to treat myself and have a "me day". I'll have a pedicure, manicure and a haircut.
