Do you feel like a traitor going to Universal?

I'm not sure I would feel like a traitor but we just can't seem to make the effort as of yet! DH in particular says he has no interest. I know the day will come as our son is 10 and dying to try the Mummy ride but it may just be me and him! Somebody mentioned that WDW with the exception of MGM is inferior to Universal. Glad you feel that way since that is one less person in line for my favorite rides! To each their own I suppose.

I feel like a traitor going to Disney since DH and I up until recently had Universal AP's. :)

We've spent several vacations doing just Universal and didn't pine for Disney at all while we were there.

It's a completely different thing- as someone else mentioned, it's an apples vs oranges kind of comparison.

I love Disney, but when I really want to relax, not have to worry about trip planning, and just kick back, US/IOA are my parks of choice.

We let our passes go because this year we had stuff going on and weren't spending as much time in Orlando as usual, but I could definitely see renewing. Conversely, I've never even considered buying a Disney AP. Universal is a great experience and very affordable in comparison with WDW.

What an interesting thread! We were at WDW in March and I decided that we were going to try Universal when we got off the Disney cruise. I had never been to US nor IOA, but since our dd8 and dd11 love to ride, I thought we would stay at Hard Rock Hotel for 2 nights and try one of the parks. We ended up doing both and were NOT disappointed. Don't get me wrong. I love WDW and if money were no object, I would go every year. But US and IOA have rides with technology that is way beyond anything I have ever seen. I will echo the previous posts and say that Spiderman was my favorite. I would definitely go again. :flower:

I love Disney, but I don't see why anyone should feel guilty for wanting to visit other parks.
As far as comments about Universal being superior, all I can say is that everyone has their own opinions and they are entitled to them. I can't comment on IOA, since I haven't been there, but everyone in my family enjoyed MK, AK, and MGM more than USF.
Don't get me wrong. We all had a good time at USF. It's just that many of the attractions were very disappointing. Mummy and Terminator were fantastic, but Jaws, Earthquake, Twister, and Back to the Future were all pretty lame.
On our next trip, we'll probably skip USF, but we'll definitely want to give IOA a try.

Traitor? Never. I love Universal Studio. And I love WDW too. I enjoy both of the parks. I go where my family is happy.

I always read... No "magic" at Universal or there's nothing like WDW. Well.. the same thing.. there's nothing like Universal and "magic" is what you make of it and "magic" is everywhere if you open your heart and have an open mind.

No. Universal has the best theme park in Orlando - Universal Studios.

I love Disney, but I love Universal as well. Universal has many different types of rides so I don't feel like a traitor when I go there. Both are unique experiences and to me it is the combination that always makes my trip amazing. :cool1:

better yet, do people avoid Universal because they feel like a traitor leaving Disney for a day to go over there?

Why would anyone feel like a traitor??? Orlando has so much to offer - why would you not want to see and do as much as possible?

I agree, I dont understand how people are able to spend 2 weeks just on Disney property and not get bored. How many times can you ride small world and remain sane?

After going to Disney yearly for 10 years, we spent a few days at Universal. We loved it. We love Disney too. There is no question that Universal has the best rides. My favorite parks are MGM and Universal Studios. The Hard Rock Hotel is wonderful. My favorite hotel of any at Disney or Universal. We alternate years between Disney and Universal. If you just take a day trip to Universal you are missing out on the wonderful vacation experience that Universal provides. The hotels are great. Citywalk is a lot of fun! Everyone is different, but there just are not that many fun rides at Disney for teenagers who have been going there all of their lives. We never thought we would like another spot as much as Disney, but guess what, we do!

Tinkerbellz- if the commercial bothered you please don't ever go on the Shrek ride at Universal!

we've added an extra three days to our upcoming trip just so we can venture outside the wdw walls... we're doing two days at universal parks (and staying at a univ hotel) and a day at discovery cove and some time at seaworld... i don't feel traitorous at all... does disney feel badly that it allows another family to stay in my favorite hotel room when i'm not there? HAHAH!

Oh, and it is so nice to see a friendly thread on this subject! I have seen it get a little nasty!

I've never been to Universal and I really have no desire to try it.

I love Disney and one of the reasons I love it is because once I get there I don't have to worry about driving around Orlando...everything I need to have a wonderful vacation is right there and I just enjoy getting into the "magic."

Also, I'm not really into thrillrides. I like some of them, but not enough to give up a day at Disney to go to Universal. I have Cedar Point an hour away from me, if I want thrill rides, I go there.

Not at all. I've been to Universal three times while staying at WDW. It has some things that MK, etc. don't. I would probably not stay at one of their hotels, but I don't mind visiting. I do find that I prefer Disney rides and the Disney atmosphere better than Universal, but I don't mind going over for a day. In August, 2006 a bunch of my friends and I are going down to WDW for a week for a conference and will probably spend time both at Universal and Sea World, just for a break.

It is really nice to have a casual discussion about things. That's one of the many things I like about the DIS. :wizard:

I love Disney but I don't feel like a traitor going to Universal. Everytime we go to Disney, we usually spend 2 days at Universal. We don't think it's better than Disney, but we do like IOA and Universal Studios, so we like going to those parks at least 1 day each. This year we won't be going though, because we're only going for 7 days, which we want to spend all at Disney.

I am not into thrill rides at all, but I love Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, and also love Sea World and Busch Gardens as well as WDW. Each place has something different to offer, experiences that you cannot get at any of the other parks.

For us WDW is a treat that we go to occassionally, but as FL residents, we find all of the other parks to be much more affordable in terms of annual passes (I currently have a two-year BG pass which cost me less than half of what a FL resident 1 year seasonal pass would cost me). WDW is actually where we have been to the least because of that.

No, there is a lot more to vacation than WDW. Next summer, we are not doing Disney at all and doing a Royal Caribbean cruise.

I really think you should go to Universal, so that you and your family can experience something a little different. Still a themepark, but with a different theme. :)

In some ways, Universal is better than Disney but not many. (Their rollercoasters are alot better than what Disney offers. Although, RnR is very close.) I am not a fan of their movie park though at all. But to say that I feel like a traitor for going to Universal is crazy. If my cousin who works for Disney can go to both and not have a problem with it, so can I.

Before my first visit to WDW with my children I did some research and it turns out.......there are other rides in the MK!!!!!! Not only that, but there are 3 other parks, 2 water parks AND lots of onsite activities. Maybe there's no need to ride one ride continously for 2 weeks after all
