Well Sunday is my birthday so of course it's a holiday weekend! Just kidding, my employer only gave us Tuesday off, Monday is business as usual with the threat that if any of us took a sick day or used PTO on Monday then we wouldn't get our holiday pay for Tuesday.

No one was allowed to schedule vacation during this week? Or is this only for those who call out on Monday?

July is the least important ratings period in TV, but it is still a ratings period. Vacations are strongly discouraged in July now, but some time off can be taken. But a few years ago it was forbidden. And for decades, July 4th was not a holiday under the union contract at my wife's employer.

That’s a sucky employer.

I remember decades ago as an hourly employee we had to work the days before and after a paid holiday to receive holiday pay.

That is the rule we have on the books, however, if someone took PTO, then that’s a completely different story and they get paid. As it is we have everybody off payroll d on Monday.

the business day before and after is company policy. So in this case that's Monday or Wednesday. On one of the holidays that's observed on a Monday it's the Friday before or the tuesday after the holiday.

Enjoying the holiday day right now as Canada Day fell on Saturday. Getting ready to hit the ground running tomorrow as it marks the start of the vacation-time season where I have to do A LOT of vacation relief, and my department is chronically under-staffed to start with. :faint:

Shout out today to my colleagues in Austin, TX and Long Beach CA, who are off today and tomorrow. Our company operates business units there and those lucky guys get all the American stat holidays AND all the Canadian ones; when they don't overlap. :wave2:

I changed my vote. I was able to get the 4th off after all.
I am at work today. Weee!

Traditionally from that above list from my husband's corporate world and my corporate world experience it's only ever been New Years, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I remember one year when I was at the insurance company I went from New Year's Day to Memorial Day without taking any vacation time.
Those are the only 6 recognized by my work as well. And I am required to work at least 3 of them every year. I usually take off Christmas and Thanksgiving days, and will often work the other 4, but have to do 3. And all of those days we take off, we have to use PTO (if it falls on a regular work day). It's been nice having Christmas day on a weekend the last 2 years, so I didn't have to use PTO for it.
