Do you consider this weekend to be a "holiday" weekend?

Not currently working, but when I was, I had to work holidays unless they fell on my regular day off or I wanted to use some form of PTO. So it would have been a straight Saturday through Tuesday workweek for me. My sister also works in hospitality and has to work straight through this weekend and the fourth.

Our company offered two “Floating Holidays” as part of the PTO package, which could be used for holidays other than the company sanctioned ones. July 4th was a company holiday, so someone could have used a Floating Holiday for the 3rd to create a four day weekend (if they worked a position that didn’t require working holidays). I used mine in conjunction with my vacation PTO instead of taking them individually.

I consider it to be a holiday weekend because so many of the events have been moved to Saturday or Sunday instead of Tuesday. It’s tougher to designate a holiday weekend when the holiday falls right in the middle, on Wednesday.

The University has given us Monday as an "administrative holiday" so it's a 4 day weekend. Honestly, it's summer, there are very few students taking classes, there's not a whole lot going on anyhow. This also happens for the day after Thanksgiving (there are no classes but the university isn't officially closed so staff have to work) and often around Christmas and New Year's, depending on when the holiday falls.

I voted “Other”

*I don’t consider it a holiday weekend
*I will be having 4 days off, but I’m not happy about it. I’m much rather work Monday and get the hours on my check. My boss has never done this before, but he wants a 4 day weekend. My DH told me I’m crazy for being annoyed about a 4 day weekend - LOL!

My husband does get a 4-day weekend. (If the 4th falls on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday, they just get the day... but if it falls on Tuesday or Thursday, they also get the gap day.)

My office is technically open on Monday, but my boss told us all today that we could work from home and we can knock off early. (I do not work on Mondays anyway, but I thought that was nice.)

I don't know anyone who has Monday off. While we are on vacation this week it will end this weekend to go back to work, like any other vacation week.

And then there is a random day off midweek that we'll all have, but what you going to do in one day? Get with family for some burgers.

We're heading out of town Friday after work. July 4th is one of the holidays we always visit MIL for 7 hours away.

Our only holiday day is the 4th. Having the holiday makes one less PTO day we have to burn.

We're then leaving MIL on the 5th to continue moving our son cross country. After we get him settled in, we'll head back, but stopping to visit our daughter for the weekend at her summer internship. Dh and I will then make a long 14 hour drive Sunday so we can work Monday.

We have a floating holiday that many choose to pair with July 4. I don’t- I typically use mine for a longer vacation at another point in the year. So I’ll be working Monday, and potentially Tuesday because we’ll be so short staffed next week anyways.

I do not consider this to be a holiday weekend. I am off the 4th but still have to work on the 3rd. A lot of people in the company did schedule themselves a long weekend though.

I've seen various ways of doing it. I remember one place I used to work had every federal holiday automatically deduced from PTO unless we contacted HR and asked to work. That included Columbus Day. We had no specific holidays off, but had a pool of PTO that covered a lot of time (I think 5 weeks for new employees).

I don't recall if there were any typical holidays off where it was doubled if a Friday or Monday could bridge the holiday to a weekend. I do remember one place which was strictly all federal holidays and a mandatory vacation time around Christmas and New Years other than the federal holidays.

Had to go "other". Supposed to travel home from work on Saturday (unless I wrap early), technically "working" Monday, but nothing on the agenda (and it will be from home) currently, then Tuesday off. Weds & Thursday "work" from home, Friday off as DD gets married on Saturday.

I consider it a holiday weekend. My husband and I took off the 3rd to make it a 4 day weekend. Our offices are closed on the 4th. We will be going to our friends shore home for a bbq and fireworks on the 3rd. Their shore town is doing their 4th of July fireworks that day. We are hosting a bbq Saturday the 1st and it’s the day our town does our fireworks.

My husband will work on the 3rd, probably from home. We leave on the 5th for vacation/brother's memorial. DH is also going to South Korea at the end of the month, he doesn't have any spare vacation/PTO.

Not a holiday weekend. I'm working on the 3rd, off on the 4th. We just got back from 2 weeks away, so I wouldn't have considered taking the 3rd off. I don't really like going anywhere for the 4th anyway, too crowded.

I don't know if I have Monday off yet. At the very least will get off early on Monday, but in the end it is up to the head office to tell my office when we are allowed off.

My husband and I both have to work on Monday and get Tuesday off. My office building will be closed next week and all employees are working from home or taking PTO.

I definitely consider it a long holiday weekend. I retired 4 years ago at a relatively young age and the one thing I’ve noticed is that I looked forward to weekends like this much more when I was working than I do now. We still do the same stuff to celebrate but it’s just a tad more special when you’ve got a few days off from work as opposed to being off all the time. So all you working folks… I salute you and please enjoy your holiday weekend! You’ve earned it!
