Do you clean your room?

OMG ~ who's staying at the Contemporary next? :scared1::lmao: And the blowing of the nose? That's just sick.

am i the only one who sprays all the bedding down with RID at the hotels?
don't know how effective it is aganst bedbugs but i've been doing this ever since my kids ended up with lice after we stayed at a hotel. can't say for certain if it was definately the hotel or from school but i always bring a can every hotel we stay at since-makes me feel better and if it kills bedbugs too makes me even happier.:goodvibes

:scared1:

I once had a planters wart on my foot. Something noone wants. Had to go to the doctor to have it removed and they are spread from walking barefoot in an area where someone else had one. My family wears flip flops or socks in the hotel room and never walks barefoot.

That UTube video leaves something to say about paper cups.:goodvibes

And yes, I clean our room before my family goes in. Spray Lysol all over, Clorox cleanup in the bathroom, tub, shower. Clorox wipes on all hard surfaces including the remotes, light handles, door knobs.

Another thing...what about buffets? :scared: I am afraid of someone touching the serving utensils before me and then spreading stuff that way. We always did buffets before but after the stomach virus this winter and now swine flu, I am leaning about from the places.

I think cleaning, or anything else like that is a great idea if it reduces worry rather than inducing it! That being said, I ALWAYS check for bed bugs because I worked at a place that had them and saw first hand how even clean places can have bad moments for guests. Plus I don't want them at home. Also, if possible I travel with at least one pillow and sometimes my duvet! It seems extreme but really I am just more comfortable. They weigh hardly anything so I just stuff them in a stuff sack and put them in the huge suitcase I am checking anyways.

Let me suggest something I do before a vacation. Probiotics to strengthen immune system! I used to use just Airborne but I can't stand the way it tastes anymore. Vitamin C, Zinc, Echinacea whatever floats your boat! If you take good care of yourself before a trip, you are in better shape to handle everything from the hotel room, pool, finger scanner, hand rails and even the buffet spoons!

I don't lay on the bedspread anyway, but my DH and DS do. I'm just wondering if it is a good idea to spray the spreads and blankets with anything. Some people could be allergic to chemicals in them and would have no way of knowing the linens they are lying on have been sprayed. I would rather people just remove the covers than spray them. Maybe I'm just overreacting, and I'm not trying to be critical, but it just made me wonder.

THANK YOU for saying this!!!!!! This is one of the reasons it is so hard for us to travel. Between this and people spraying "cleaners" in the bathroom stalls, life can be rather challenging.

I usually do not clean the room, but I think this trip will be different. I'm going to get the lysol wipes and wipe down all the surfaces in the bathroom when we get there. I just want to enjoy our trip so I'm going to be a little extra careful.

I normally don't clean the room either when we arrive, but this time I am not taking any chances. With that and with washing our hands more frequently, hopefully all will be well. ;)

RID won't do a thing to bedbugs, and the manufacturer's own site states that it's critical that the room be ventilated after spraying, and that it shouldn't be used around people with asthma.

RID FAQ

As an asthma sufferer, I really would not want to be staying in a hotel room where the room, and specifically the bedspread, had recently been sprayed with pesticides. And my asthma is mild. So many children with severe asthma stay at WDW...you just don't know who's going to be in a room after you. Using it in your home is one thing, but I wouldn't use it in a hotel room.

I can understand the pillows in a way - I mean, they don't clean them, so if the last person was ill, there are probably germs in the pillows too. Having said that, I don't take my own pillows with me because I don't sleep with my face in the pillow.

Now that just gave me a new perspective on things. I never really gave that any thought before. :crazy2:

No.

We've worked very hard finding the right combination of meds to control dd14's asthma. If she were to be exposed to something sprayed in a closed room, it could set her back.

When we stay DVC, I do run all the dishes through the dishwasher (dd also has a soy allergy) and run the jets on the jacuzzi tub before anyone uses it.

It is a really good thing that we have immune systems. I think some people just over react to this stuff. Now they sell (and the people buy) anti-bacterial this and anti-bacterial that. Lysol this and Lysol that. Instant hand sanitizer, etc.

You would have to literally soak a bedspread with a sanitizer to kill the germs.

As far as bedbugs :scared1: are concerned it is always a good idea to check the bedding for them no matter where you stay. You don't want to wake up with numerous bedbug bites!

You have a better chance of catching something on a plane, in a theater, or any other enclosed space where sick people may be.

All are very good things to wipe clean but don't forget to use Lysol on the light switches they have more germs than u can imagine. Have a great trip!!:woohoo:

I just returned from the YC, and yes, I brought wipes and lysol spray and gave all handles, toilet and phone a wipe down and spray. I put the remote in a clear ziplock bag. My last two visists to WDW I got sick, and I was so scared I would ruin the vacation(or at least a couple days of it) AGAIN so I was hyper vigilant this time. I never use the in room coffe maker, I do not use the in-room glasses,I always turn down the comforter on the bed as I know it rarely gets washed. I was surprised and frankly, grossed out to see a phone by the toilet at YC, so you can bet I didn't touch that ever! I am grossed out enough by having the towels stored right above the toilet. Also, if we want to keep our towels(rather than having them replaced by mousekeeping daily) we are asked to throw it over the shower rod. Nope, won't do it. I doubt the shower rod is wiped down and it probably has mold/mildew on it. So I hung my towels. After returning from breakfast, we found our towels on the floor. I guess mousekeeping came in and threw them on the floor to be replaced despite my hanging them up.So, because I refused to hang them over the shower rod, they were replaced every day.

Wow. After reding my own post, I sound like a nut. Hmmm, well, so be it. :confused3

:lmao:I thought I was the only one grossed out by this. I mean they tell you not to leave your toothbrush out because when you flush a bizillion germs fly, but the towels are right there above said germ volcano. You're not a nut, or maybe I'm a nut too and we just are too looney to recognize it.

I just pick up and throw away the trash before we leave each day. I never make the beds! No way on vaca! :thumbsup2

If I felt the need to clean a hotel room as I entered it, I would be staying at a different hotel. I'm sure the "Mousekeeping" staff already cleans the rooms well enough so all the guests won't get ill. People who get sick from a Disney trip (has happened to me quite often) most certainly has more to do with being exposed to people from othe parts of the country/world who are carrying viruses you may not have seen yet where you live. Good personal hygiene, rest and diet (along with low stress levels) is logical. Spraying everything you come in contact with disinfectant is not. BTW, how dirty do you think the elvevator buttons are, or the handrails on the stairs? And how many kids with colds just hugged/kissed Mickey right before you? I'd say relax and enjoy your trip instead of attemtping to sanitize The World. That's what we have immune sytems for.

:rotfl: I'm sure Mickey wouldn't mind if we give him a quick spray and wipe before we make physical contact with him! :lmao:
I'll just be sure he's aware it's not mouse poison!
He's probably germaphobic too!:rotfl2:
