Do we tip the Installers?

Tomorrow, we're having our Plasma TV installed on the wall. It's being done by Best Buy as part of our package deal, and it sure wasn't cheap. Not sure what the tipping etiquette is with this service.

We recently purchase a new Hi-Def big screen from Ultimate Electronics. I paid extra for delivery AND set-up. I asked the salesman if I should tip the guys who set it up. He told me no.

So, I didn't.

If they walk in, do the job, walk out, then no tip.

If they come in and go the extra mile in making sure things are set up exactly the way you want, and go out of their way to keep thing neat and clean, then in my book a tip is appropriate, though not manditory.

When I pay a steep delivery charge or set-up fee I usually don't tip.

We usually do. We tipped the delivery men who installed our new washer (twice) and dryer. The laundry is on the 2nd floor.

Did they deliver the washer and dryer as well as install?

We tipped the guys who delivered the TV because we're on the 4th floor and they gave us some sob story saying they are only supposed to go up 3 floors max. Yeah right.

They removed the old ones, delivered and installed the new ones (water, drain, leveled them). We did the dryer vent because we were changing it out.

Yes I normally tip anyone who is installing or delivering something and setting up for us.

For those who do tip, how much do you give?

We gave them $20 for the washer and dryer and another $10 when they replaced the damaged washer they delivered the first time. It did wash but the dent in the back pushed the control panel forward and would be a problem in the future.
