Do People Really.......???

WARNING...I did NOT read all 12 pages....just going to answer from first post..

I just this past week ordered a double hamburger and asked for and paid 79 cents for an extra bun. My daughter and I split the meal and it was plenty of food for us. If I had to order two meals, single hamburger with fries we would of had fries left over and paid about $4.50 more. Yes I was trying to save a few bucks but mostly did not want to order food we were not going to eat.
Don't worry thou, Disney got that $4.50 back when we got ice cream before the parade.

As far as some of the other questions asked...I have no comment because I do not want to go back pages and have to retype this...LOL

Have fun,
Lori

Just to let everybody know - Even though it says cheeseburger with fries or carrots, you can order it as a hamburger, for less money, and without fries or carrots, for even less money. I do not know how much more the one meal with one order of fries and one hamburger only is compared to the double hamburger and extra bun. I wonder if the 79 cent cost for the bun is exactly the same price and that is why Disney has a 79 cent bun. Does anybody know for sure?

ETA: Our way of ordering gets us two trays to make our salads in! :teeth:

All of this double cheeseburger talk has really struck my fancy... I must join in and figure this out.

-Double Cheeseburger meal (served with fries) at Liberty Inn in EPCOT... $6.89

-Regular Cheeseburger meal (served with fries) at Cosmic Rays... $5.79

-Side order of french fries at Cosmic Rays... $1.89

-The cost of an extra bun... .79 cents

-SO... that would make a cheeseburger (if you subtract the cost of the fries) approx... $3.90

-Two regular cheeseburgers plus a side of fries a la carte would run you about... $9.69 ($3.90+ $3.90+ $1.89)

-The cost of the double cheeseburger meal plus the extra bun actually comes to less... $7.68

Two dollars difference.

This thread... PRICELESS...

Lol :lmao: I totally felt like I was doing a commercial the entire time I was typing that. I guess my final thought is, if Disney is charging you for the extra bun, then use it! They know what people are doing. It's no secret. If they were really losing that much money on the deal they would change it, fast. Go on vacation, have fun. Don't think about how other people are trying to "stick-it" to the mouse... Build a bridge, get over it. As my little niece would say... "it's none of your bee's wax"!!!!

Why is buying a used mug ick? At restaurants you are using used mugs, which have been washed. I can see if someone wants a souvenir mug for cheap and buying a used one. I don't think it is right to use it as a refillable mug though.

I have a quick question, do people that have a problem with pool hopping (by the way I understand why), also have a problem with someone from the outside using their resort resturant? The nicer resorts also have nicer resturants that often get over crowded with people outside the resort. Is this also an entitlement of the Mods or Deluxes?

Oh Dear God :sad2:, do you really have to go to the point of insulting just because someone doesnt agree with you :confused3 ? I think soooome people ( :rolleyes1 ) need to get off their high horse and lighten up (and pardon me if my opinion makes me "intellectually deprived" )...Oh, Zippa D Dooh Da, I think nothing less of you and dont even worry about it b/c someone is bound to come on here and disagree with you just for the sake of arguing but you're not doing anything wrong...sharing is an age old tradition, I think sharing is an excellent idea, same goes for the cheeseburger issue (I dont know about the whole extra bun thing) but splitting meals that are often too huge for people to eat is absolutly normal, there's no need to waste food.

Okay, look... I apologize for sounding snide. But the fact is... what Santonucci said is NOT NEGOTIABLE. It is a LOGICAL FACT. You pay for something, you get to use it. You don't pay for something, you DO NOT get to use it! Why is that so difficult for people to wrap their minds around?

But still, people are arguing and saying "they don't see the point".... Thus, my comment about getting blood from a stone. You cannot change the mind of a person who is unable to see the forest for the trees. They WANT to think a certain way... thus, they do not open themselves to internalizing LOGIC. What is so wrong about that? I am NOT on ANY high horse!!!! "Intellectually incapable" simply means, that no matter how you paint it, they aren't going to get it, right? I, myself, am intellectually incapable of grasping advanced ALGEBRA for chrissakes! Does that paint me as an all around idiot? (Some might argue yes! :rotfl: )

Any let me clarify, in NO WAY do I have any problem with anyone sharing a burger, swapping a stroller, or strapping the biggest dirty diaper they can find to their stroller! I think the burger sharing is LOGICALLY a fantastic idea and if I ate beef I would do it in a heartbeat! Swapping strollers? Logically fantastic! I think that sharing is a long lost art and meeting new people is enriching and fun! If I wasn't so married to the idea of having my stroller outside the parks, I would love to swap inside!

If you go back and re-read my post (before you tell me how high the horse I am on is), you'll see I was referring to the logic of pool-swapping ONLY. :)

Paying for and eating in a resort restaurant IS allowed - Pool Hopping - except for DVC members and in between sister resorts IS NOT ALLOWED. 2 different things.

I am against pool hopping for the reason you understand. I am not paying for the restaurant with my room charge. The patrons of the restaurant are, so nope I don't feel the same way about the resort restaurants.

The question should be those who see nothing wrong with pool hopping, how do you feel when you have an ADR for a restaurant, but you cannot get in because I am sitting at a table and not eating at the restaurant. If I was not there then you, the one entitled to my table, is not getting in to us the ADR that you worked so hard to obtain.

We have been to Disney about 25 times through the years and I will tell you that I have been there on all types of pay grades, from flat broke to a healty business owner. To this day I cannot spend money wastefully. I always try to find the best deal at the best location. I am on this board ( which I just found) to learn more money saving ideas. In my view it's a smart person that makes the most out of the 100 cents in each dollar. To all those with the Dream if bringing your family, kept it alive and put all your change in a jar. You will be surprised how it will add up. We have done it all. I do love the Deluxe properties and I feel we have worked hard to be able to stay there. Nothing was given to us. I do have that nice watch on the wrist now, but we are as down to earth as they come but it does bother me when I know how we followerd the rules and let our 4 kids ( and we had to stay off property because there wasn't a room large enough and we couldn't afford two) swim in the hotel pool we were staying in. It just never crossed my mind to go to the Poly and let them have a day over there and abuse the system. We did go over and dream of staying there, which we still haven't but to use there pool? But I am a Rules and Reg's person and I am happy to say that my 4 teenagers are very productive adults and college students in today's society. Is this really about a Hamburger or the attitude of the Society we live in today? That's my problem with the issue of pool hopping and I will tell you that the next time I see or hear a family talking about it I will report it. Now if Disney chooses to do anything about it that will be up to them but a rule is a rule and frankly I have had enough of people wanting something for nothing.

I've never seen anything wrong with the food thing, but most people stay at certain resorts for the amenities they provide, and they have to PAY for that. If someone wants to use the amenities of a resort they should have to PAY for it also. It all come down to respecting each other, and dropping the "It's all about me" attitude :sad2:

The following is not a personal attack...

The restaurant is a open to the public, and you have to PAY to use it, just like hotel guests would. The pool is not open to the public, and only for use of guests at that resort. I doubt the "pool-hopping crowd" is spending the money at the better restaurants anyway- it's not their MO.

I have never stayed at the AllStars, but here are some interesting "facts" (don't quote me on exact #'s):

The AS house about 7000 rooms @4 per = 28000 people.
The WL has about 700 rooms @4 people =2800 people.

The WL 'rack rate" is 3-4 times the cost of the AS, which means people at the WL PAY 3-4 times as much to not be 10x as crowded...

If 1/10 of the AS people decided they like the WL pool better, they would fill it to WL HOTEL capacity. I've never seen the pool "filled", but I've seen them crowded- which means that everything is a little bit harder for people who have paid 3-4 times as much to avoid the crowds. Longer lines at the slides, fewer chairs, fewer towels... it all adds up.

Folks that spend the money on the WL deserve to get what they pay for. We are not all elitist Disney rich blueblood, but people who work just as hard all year as the pool-hoppers to afford our family vacations. If we are paying for the additional services and others are not, why shouldn't we be "upset" if people who think the rules don't apply to them are abusing the system?

If someone wants to swim at the better pools, here are some suggestions:

1.) Book a shorter stay. Less days= less $$$, and now you can use the pool 'legally'

2.) Book at a less busy time. Rates go down, more value for your dollar.

3.) Split your stay between hotels- 2 days here, 3 days elsewhere...I've moved hotels twice in the past, and it's not even that hard to do!

4.) Save costs elsewhere to be able to afford the better resorts- quit smoking, no Friday night bar hopping, etc...

And, on a totally seperate note, there is the liability issue for Disney. A tourist drowned at resort pool only a few weeks ago. Can you imagine the lawsuits if a pool-hopper drowns? They'll sue Disney for not throwing them out or preventing pool-hopping in the first place.

Steve

Still waiting for AP rates for the summer

I'm not going to comment on double cheeseburgers or pool hopping but all of you perfect rule followers who never break any rules are the ones I must get stuck behind on the highway doing exactly 55. None of you EVER go over the speed limit even just a little? I hope not because those are the rules!!

Great Thread.
I have no problem with the burger issue or the dirty diaper. I think both are sorta clever, unless you actually use a dirty diaper.

The pool hopping I can see why people have a legitimate issue with it.

The salad issue is just bizarre. I would have a problem with it though, if I was going to put some toppings on my hamburger and couldn't because because the guy ahead of me just took a huge spoonful of pickles to make some sort of frankenstein salad and there were no more left. The only thing with that is that although the fixings appear free they aren't so that the people who actually bought food contributed while the others who stopped in for a "fixin salad" did not. I guess its a little less of an issue if the person actually bought a meal.

Thank goodness for people like you... I was beginning to think that I was one of the few people raised to believe stealing is wrong.

As far as sharing a burger goes, anyone that wants to avoid wasting food, save a nickel, buy two buns, whatever- go ahead and do it. I am befuddled why someone would look at this as a moral issue? Then again, there are folks arguing that stealing is OK, so....

Steve

As long as your not trying to share MY burger, we're OK...

I think using the restaurants is OK, cause everyone pays the same when they order their food. The pool is paid for when you pay for your room at that resort.

No, This is encouraged by Disney, That is why ADR's are excepted for them and your name is at the guard gate, if you happen to be driving in. If you are driving in you are limited to how long you can park there, Ex: Polynesian for a Character breakfast at Ohana's, does not give you the right to stay parked for the day and take the monorail to MK or Epcot. We asked the guard and he said we had a limit on our parking pass that he was giving us and that they did come around and check. If you stayed there they would have your car towed. So we ate, drove to MK and told them we were resort guest and they checked ID and we didn't have to pay to park.

You are absolutely right. It is about the attitude of society. It's difficult for people to understand how they truly have the "wrong idea" when they are only concerned about themselves and getting what they want.

Rules ARE rules... for a reason! I am ALLLLLL about changing the rules when I feel strongly that they need to be changed... but there are proper channels to go through when you feel something is unjust.

When people see everything as a "free-for-all", and base their actions on what "they" think is okay, the system breaks down. That's when priviledges start getting taken away... stonger rules are put in place... and then things that were once fun, take on this negative, militaristic style because no one can be trusted to just "do the right thing".

Disney World is a place where people can easily take advantage of the system for their own benefit... but what angers me is that people don't comprehend (or bother to think about) the ramifications of their selfish actions. I go to Disney and I feel SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!

But I'm not going to feel quite so happy if they start carding me to get on the bus, carding me to go to the pool, taking my ID away when I rent a stroller, hovering over the condiments bar while I am putting my pickle on my burger... because those things make me feel like I am living in some kind of police state!

And the only way those things would ever happen is if it gets to point where so many people are abusing the system that Disney HAS to do those things. I hope it doesn't go that far. Disney World is one of the last places I can think of where I feel like a real GUEST, as opposed to an inmate. I don't want to lose that feeling! pixiedust:

OK I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this but...

Does anyone else think that if you are so strapped for money that you resort ot some of these tactics, you really should be putting your money somewhere (ie, bills) other than Disney.

I know, I know, I can hear it... "Don't tell me how to spend MY money"

JMHO

no flames here!!! TOTALLY agree!!!!!
That being said, we have used mugs from another resort, but only along with the mugs that were purchased on current trip. This just saves trips to the drink station. :yay:
As far as meal sharing, I've never done it, I like to eat, but I don't see anything wrong with it. (as long as it's not an all-you-can-eat deal) But, making salads from the fixins bar is just plain stealing. My MIL says she does it & I've told her how I feel about it.
