The only solution is Guests will have to "set a time" that they will be back at the door that will allow enough time for the Guest inside the room to finish their shower and be available to come to the door and swing the Safety Latch.

It will be a "hassle"but that is the only solution to scenarios like this.

Gosh, I'd just text my family when I was out of the shower and could answer the door.

I suppose you are correct. But, the point is, I want to be able to access my room at any point. With the DND sign, the person in the shower had a reasonable expectation that they would remain undisturbed while still allowing any member of the family to access the room. If I forget something in the room, I want to be able to go back and get it. Now, it's an inconvenience.

I wish there was a way to alert housekeeping to wait...

But,it takes some time to do and I don't think they would go to that extreme on the "first try" to access the room.

I guess time will tell how "aggresive" they will be!

I'm tired of spending five figures and jumping through hoops. It shouldn't be this stressful to go on vacation. It seems Disney throws up another obstacle each visit.

We've gone from 3-2-1 visits a year. It was once our favorite go to place. I dreaded our last trip and not looking forward to our next one. We need to seriously consider our options. I want to enjoy my vacation, but Iger and his gang have sucked the enjoyment out of a longstanding family tradition...bit by bit.

It seems to me that Disney is going out of its way to erode the magical customer experience. My trips in 2018 maybe my last. They are getting to the point of being overpriced and over scheduled if you want to accomplish anything. They are killing for me the resort experience by thinking of dogs as "guests" and they have done away with the special theme of the resort with generic "hotel" room décor to make clean up easier. Now resort checks upon all the other park "security" checks which just makes another line to tackle.

I agree, and due to these issues, I am spending more of my time staying offsite.

In my opinion this won't have any influence on occupancy rates. Most people either won't know about this policy or probably won't really care.

I wish it would influence the occupancy rates because booking rooms is becoming next to impossible.

What will Disney's response be if they knock and nobody responds?

They obviously won't be able to access the room easily (unless they pop the latch). Will they just come back later? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

I don't think it will drop among some Disney fans (for various reasons).
I don't think it will drop among once in a lifetime or newbies, they don't know what they don't know.

I do think it will discourage those who see Disney as already overpriced, and now adding another negative.

I am booked for POP in January with a good rate that competes with offsite .... now we will see if it's a peaceful stay.

I am booked offsite for our Spring Break week:
Embassy Suites SOUTH, beautiful hotel, beautiful suites that means TWO rooms, two queens, sofa bed, granite counters, three sinks, kitchenette with fridge and microwave, seating area for down time, lovely pool area, AWESOME hot breakfast buffet, evening reception with alcohol and nice nibbles, always top notch service ........... $116 plus $10 a night parking = $126 per night and only 10 minute drive to most parks. I have AP so no parking fee for me, but even so still way under comps.

Same dates:
For Disney hotels, all but POR discounted too!
POP = $171 night. No guarantee of new room, my favorite value but no way it's worth that much (and that is discounted).
ASSports/ASMovie = $164 a night. Discounted, double what I am paying in January, no way.
ASMu = $155 a night. Discounted and as usual lower than rest but it's worth WAY lower to stay there.
CBR = $224 a night. Discounted. Really? With all that construction. Laughing.
CSR = $247 a night. Love it there, but no.
POR = $318 a night. No discount as it's booked by those avoiding construction. Not a chance I'd pay that for there.
AoA = $436 a night. Discounted suite. Closest to what I booked ........... but other than 2 bathrooms ..... ALMOST 4X what I am paying.

I do go to Disney for a non-reality trip but that doesn't extend to what I will pay for rooms.

That’s exactly the point. The word hassle shouldn’t be part of the picture when you’re talking about vacation...especially an expensive one.

1) We use the DND sign regularly. We usually only need our room cleaned every 2nd or 3rd day.

2) If someone bangs on my door at 8am while I'm on vacation they are going to be looking at a very angry man who is built like a cage fighter when the door opens.

3) DW has a sleeping disorder. It's very common for her to be alseep in the room at say 10am while I'm at the fitness center working out. The deadbolt won't be on after i leave. If someone enters the room while she is sleeping the manager and I will be having very unpleasant conversation.

4) We just had a wonderful 10 day stay at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando. The staff was fantastic. The DND sign was honored completely. We only had the room cleaned 3 times during the 10 days. I know most of you have the Disney colored goggles on, but we're just as happy spending our time and money at Universal if Disney is going to continue to jack prices and ad stupid policy's.

5) Most people won't know about this policy until they get there as they aren't on DIS. I'm guessing some of those people are going to get very angry when their privacy is invaded.

6) The stampede of angry people asking for a manager everyday will eventually cause Disney to re-evaluate this policy.

7) It's also possible that this policy won't be used very much and is just in place so they can enter a room if they feel there is a reason to.

If we decide to go to WDW anytime soon I will nip this issue in the butt upon arrival. I doubt very much they will enter my room after I set them straight. If they do it will most likely be the last time Disney gets $10k of my money.

I feel the exact same way. We have a huge family trip coming up in April that we can’t cancel at this point- too many people involved. But we are already planning on a big break and sale of our DVC.

Since everyone else is doing it - My thoughts on how it will work:

Housekeeping will go about their day as usual and will have a way to keep track of rooms they didn't clean (probably already do). Then the new security "steward" (I like that title) will most likely get a list of any rooms that couldn't be entered by housekeeping and then proceed to make a quick stop at those rooms.
