Do Not Disturb Gone! (BLT)

you have the right to privacy in your paid hotel room if you exercise that right. a broad sweeping security inspection violates that right, you have presumption of innocence, and unless there is a reasonable suspicion of illegal activity or probable cause that a crime is being committed neither management nor law enforcement may enter your hotel room without your permission, Disney is counting on your compliance, and your unwillingness to test their boundaries. only time will tell and I can assure you there will be test cases as this rolls out if certain people who value their right to privacy and have the financial means push back. I won't give them my money anymore to spy on me behind the confines of my door, and neither should you.

This is key. Disney is one of those that think they can do whatever they want and get away with it. With other hotels, if they offend or disappoint their guests - you stay somewhere else right down the street. Disney is unique and in many ways has no competition.

NO one should let an "employee" enter their room unless they call them. Like I've said, I've seen with my eyes two men trying to break into POP rooms by knocking, jiggling handle and pushing ... then moving to next door. Once they realized I saw them, took their picture they ran off to their car. No way I am opening my door to someone who just wants to come in and look. If my room is paid, I am quiet, I don't need housekeeping and didn't call for maintenance .... there is zero reason for me to remove the latch and open that door.

The fourth amendment does not apply to Disney. There's so much being said here that's just wrong. If you don't like Disney policy you have a legal right to stay elsewhere.

You are aware are you not that the top four floors of the MGM Vegas IS THE FOUR SEASONS RESORT. The Four Seasons will never intrude daily into a guests room while occupied I can assure you of that. Only Disney would think of something so inept and ineffective. The Four Seasons is full of regular clients who have ample financial means, many in the legal profession..ie litigators and people who know what they want..including their right to privacy regardless of some ****** killer in Vegas. They are one of the world's oldest and greatest Hoteliers. For a reason.

Four Seasons is a relatively new hotelier (compared to the old guard) at 56 years young and founded in 1961.

The Fourth Amendment applies everywhere in the United States. You are kidding right?

Police may not come in and search hotel room w/out a warrant/probable cause. This does not mean hotel employees can't knock and come in to look at your room.

Courts have recognized that the Fourth Amendment protection from unreasonable searches and seizures applies to searches and seizures in hotel and motel rooms. Certain exceptions allow for warrantless searches and seizures, including consent. In broad terms, the consent exception means that a party's agreement, actual or implied to a search and/or seizure renders a warrant unnecessary.

In general, during a guest's stay at the hotel, only the guest may consent to a search of his or her room. While hotel staff members may access the room for cleaning and maintenance during the guest's stay, they are not authorized to allow police to enter the room. Thus, during a guest's tenancy at the hotel, employees should not allow police to enter the guest's room without a search warrant.

Disney is private property, not the government or law enforcement, so I think they have the right to enter into the hotel rooms they own themselves.

I am in no way supporting this new rule though, as I will no longer feel comfortable sleeping in in the morning or changing clothes in my own hotel room now. I don't know if there is any legal arguments proving this to be an invasion of privacy, but as my parents used to say "while you are living under my roof, you will follow my rules" so maybe I will choose to stay elsewhere.

Is this "check" JUST for those who put the DND sign on the door and not for EVERYBODY usiing Housekeeping?

Thanks!:)

No every room, every day. Do not disturb is removed so so you can’t complain that that bothered you with do not disturb up. Being replaced by Room occupied. If no sign up they will assume nobody in the room. So I assume they will still knock just in case you didn’t put it up. But they are coming in.

With Room occupied they will not pass by, they will still knock. It just alerts them someone is in the room.

I don't know where it's coming from that the check will not be done by housekeeping. It will be done by housekeeping in most instances, since in general the housekeeping personnel will be entering rooms daily. It will need to be done by someone else if there is something preventing housekeeping from entering.

This whole thing is laughable. Nobody knows who will do the check. One can assume it will be housekeeping since they are in he room already. Hence why DVC will now get trash service everyday.

So now apply the function of Disney taking efforts to keep you safe and the action. Nothing against housekeeping, but since when did they become trained security?

Awesome!Thanks!:)

We are always n the Parks when the "Housekeeping Visit" occurs so this new "policy" will not change the way we vacation at WDW at all!

I would think A LOT of Guests are like us and will be the "lucky ones"!:)

There have been plenty of times we have come back to the room early afternoon to rest and cleaned up for dinner and housekeeping still hasn’t been through. We normally just move them along as I don’t want to stand outside hot and tired waiting for them to clean the room.

A couple days ago.

Yes, there is some right, but I know it doesn't mean one can use their right to privacy to prevent the hotelier from entering the room for the full duration of their stay. If hoteliers avoid it, it is through courtesy, because they do have the right, but they want to balance that with the desires of the guest. I think at WDW they have now decided that instead of checking rooms with DND signs up 24/7 every few days (which they do, to make sure no one needs assistance or is up to something nefarious in there), they're going to do it every day, for their own reasons (which I have no trouble believing are related to what happened with MGM in October.)

You should expect privacy unless they receive a complaint or have some kind of suspicious behavior. To Invade that privacy just because, I am not sure this holds water. I am all for keeping safe but this is more security theatre.

X-Ray every bag going into the hotel.

Thats gonna be a big problem doing that. The Poly is accessible from the parking lot to every longhouse on multiple paths. Can't be done sans a guard every few feet 24/7 telling you no go in front door...Can you imagine having to go through security every time you come and go from the Poly or else where? Nah. And what about the cars and parking lots at the various hotels, many where you can park right next to your room. Nightmare.
What a forum that will make!
