Do Kids Really Wear Costumes at Disney?

When we go My 3 year old dd is gonna do the BBB so we will dress her in a princess dress that day. And my 1 year old is gonna be Minnie Mouse. I will bring extra clothes for the both of them just in case they get uncomfortable and want to change.

My dd always wears a princess dress to characters meals. Sometimes she'll wear it the rest of the day and sometimes not. It depends how hot it is, otherwise she would wear them the entire trip if she could.

This year I made and bought her some costumes that are soft like clothes. She has Belle's blue dress, Alice, and some boutique type things that were inspired from the boutique thread

My DD doesn't wear costumes in the parks, but she did dress up for CRT. The first year she wore a (very comfy) velvet dress with Cindrella embroidered on the bodice, and all of the princesses made a comment about it. The second year she wore a top with sequins and beading around the neckline, and again, all of the princesses told her how pretty it was.

We had only planned for DD to wear her Snow White dress to CRT but she insisted (despite the heat) on wearing it for most of the day. We took her on Splash Mountain to "oops" get it wet so that she would change out of it. Her face was beet red from wearing that thing all morning. But since we saw lots of princesses walking around, she wanted to keep it on. That being said, we really only saw little girls dressed like the princesses at MK and DTD (probably coming from BBB). We didn't see anyone dressed up at the other parks and I don't recall seeing 1) any boys dressed up or 2) anyone in costumes other than princesses.

If you visit the kids disney boutique thread you will find a bunch of nuts who dress their kids up is costumes and disney custom boutique clothing. Frankly, I think they're a little weird

I love how the little girls dress up at Disney. I bought all of the princess gowns for my daughter when she was small but she never would wear them because they were itchy.

I saw a little boy dressed up like the Croc Hunter at the Animal Kingdom. He was in full safari gear and obviously having a blast. Several boys were in Pirate Gear of varying degrees. Many little girls were in full gear.

If you look at the thread mentioned, you'd see t-beri is a frequent poster and she was joking about herself as well as her other clothing/sewing/fun-loving dissers on that thread!

Sure, I think Walt dressed up as a kid. As a matter of fact, I think, in general all kids do whethter they have costumes or just use their imaginations.

You do see a lot of little girls and occasionally a little boy. It's really cute and most of the time they seem to be having a blast. Leave the choice up to her, be sure the costume fits the weather and is comfortable. Bring a change of clothes just in case they change their mind and put them in comfortable shoes!! I have seen little girls in those play dress up shoes! If you want shoes to match, purchase a good quality pair of white shoes in the style you want, and use paint, glitter etc to make them special!

Because of BBB and Pirates Leagus, you will see it a lot.
My twins are under 3, so I just git a lot of Disney shirts and a few Disney Princess dresses (not costume dresses, just coton dresses with a picture of a princess). I think it will be more comfortable, and my daughter will think it's "dressing up." But in a few years, I see dressing her up.

Our first trip to Disney, my dsighted was 3. Two princess costumes came with us. The next time, we brought one and we did the castle package at BBB, so she got another. Next trip, the whole family did the Pirates league. While we did not have costumes, we went around all day in the make up. The following year, my daughter was 8 and brought 3 costumes--Rapunzel craze began... We haven't been back since 2011, but going again this year. Daughter is 12. She does not have any interest in princesses like she used to, but when we told the kids we were finally going back, she instantly declared that she HAD to go to BBB and bring at least one costume. Yeah. She doesn't have any that fit. Lol. But it is so cute to see all the girls AND boys dressed as their favorite characters throughout the parks!

My daughter flat out refused to wear normal clothes. Costume every day. she got mad I insisted on sneakers. I think it's Her favorite part of Disney.

I saw lots of little girls in Elsa dresses in March. I also saw quite a few Cinderella dresses, including the pretty one from the live action movie.

My daughter is wearing her Cinderella dress to the Park Fare dinner. She also has a Minnie shirt and tutu to wear to Garden Grille. She is bringing her Elsa costume as well, "just in case". She usually dresses in shorts and tees during the day at the parks, and wears her costumes for character dinners and such at night.

Yes. My DD doesn't because she doesn't like princess costumes. She says they are itchy. If you child is into that, bring some from home if you have them. The prices at Disney are approximately $70-150 per costume. We just got back yesterday, we saw a lot of little princesses.

Lots of kids dress up in costumes. Many many more do not. Your child isn't going to seem unusual either way. My daughter isn't a princess-y girl, and both kids have no interest in wearing costumes at Disney because it's too hot. So do whatever works for you and your child.

As you can see, not only kids wear costumes. It is for adults also!!

Kids down there wear costumes all the time. I won't lie I love the little girls dressed up as princesses, but when the little boys dress it is the best. I think the costume is worth it. I know some parents bring and extra set of cloths that day just in case their kids what to change.
