Do I Need Disney's Insurance?

As I seem to be saying alot around here, we will be going to WDW for the first time in December.

I have seen trip insurance offered by Disney.

Is this something we need to get? Pros/Cons? I am not familiar with it.

The way I see it: I can pay the insurance, not need it and definitely lose $100.00
Or I can not buy it, need to cancel and maybe lose $100-200 dollars.

Am I understanding this right?

Thank you!

It really depends on your comfort level with your vacation investment.

The insurance doesn't just cover you if the trip gets cancelled before you leave; it also can protect you during the trip.

If someone gets sick and the trip has to be cut short...you've already paid in full for days you won't use...the insurance should cover that and you'll get money back.

If there are other transportation costs (plane/train tickets) that are non-refundable, and something happens that causes you to either cancel or change (at additional costs) those tickets, insurance may cover it.

It's always a personal choice. For me, spending thousands of $$ and insuring it for another $100 is just part of the cost of the trip. I'd rather spend the extra hundred and KNOW I'm covered for almost any surprise, than have something happen and be hit with extra expenses.

I personally feel as though the investment in the insurance is minor as compared to what you actually shell out for a great vacation. I have learned that Disney's insurance will only cover you for the items you book through Disney. I prefer to book our own air. Therefore, I may have to either get separate coverage for the air and still pay Disney's fee for the rest. Or, I can do away with Disney's coverage and obtain my own for the entire trip which is my plan). Just passing on something I have learned from my TA...Take care! :wave2:

I think it all depends on your comfort level. My health, home and car are insured, but that's about it for us. I don't buy extended warranties for my cars or appliances and I don't buy trip insurance. If this is a "trip of a lifetime", then you may feel more comfortable getting the insurance for your own piece of mind.

I usually go no insurance...BUT it is ok with us if we eat our tickets, and I would have to look at the DVC agreement to figure out the room penalty. But if I were going during hurricans season or severe snow season here in the Albany area, then I might get it(because flights might be affected).

One of my cousins had her uncle die right before all of them(8 ) were due to go to Disney a few years ago (they are also DVC, so I think they might have been covered under loss of a family member, they are also 5 hours closer to WDW and usually drive so no airplane there.

I guess it does depend on your pros and cons

I normally pass on the insurance for a regular WDW trip. However, we just booked a cruise + WDW trip and I felt more comfortable with the insurance this time around...Normally, we could "eat" our losses should something go wrong, but not with the $$$ a DCL costs these days!

I always Insure my trip when a cruise is involved.

I am going to Disney this Nov and with all the hurricane Horrors going on I did insure this trip. Its really what you think is best. I'd rather lose $100. for insuring the trip than lose all the money for flight/hotel & parks.

Do what you think is best for you!! Have a great time:cool1:

I never get insurance, unless I think there is a possibility that we won't go. If you are sure that NO MATTER WHAT you are going....save your money!

Also thought of something...you might want to check you CC agreements. Sometimes they come with travel insurance (you probably would have to use that CC to pay for the trip...an example that I can think of is USAirlines CC's carry it). Some Platimun cards might also. It is worth checking out...your insurance might be free!!!
