I'm sure its been asked before. thanks!

No dedicated computer line. You can hook up the modem from a protable computer to the phone line in the room and you will need an 800 or local number to call in to your internet service to avoid high phone charges.

Only low tech, slow, dial-up. No broadband, DSL, or even clean fast dial-up. Ok for text, e-mail, etc., but not ok for video, teleconference, or that type.

Hopefully they'll add some high speed access in the new locations.

Thanks for the info...I wanted to bring my laptop..guess its not practical for BWV...I don't think my server has an 800 dial up.

AKL has a phone with a dataport...what's that?

All Disney resorts have dataports. You can connect your laptop to the phone line by a port on the telephone. If your ISP doesn't have a local Orlando access number or an 800 #, you can look into a free service, like www.netzero.com , which does have free local access (you will just pay the .35 per local call charge).

I always take my laptop and use the dataports. I'm using one right now from a hotel in Dallas which has a 56K line from the dataport here in my room. I'm also using netzero.

I used my laptop at OKW in May with no problem. I have AOL, they have lots of Orlando #'s that I could dial into, 35 cents per call (member rate for local calls). If you're just using it to pick up e-mails and surf the web, it's fine.

Beachangel, all the phones have an extra outlet on the side into which you plug your modem line. That is a dataport. Your laptop will be just fine. Once you dial into AOL or netzero or whatever, there is no charge for the length of the call, you can do what you need to do -- upload pictures from your digital camera to a website, for example. It might take another minute to do it, that is all, no big deal. I always take mine when I go.

Doc, I hope you are having fun in Dallas! I know I did this summer. :)

I have a cable modem at home and was pleasantly surprised at the speed of my NetZero connection from BWV. The DIS boards were really fast; what else could you possibly need? :)

Thanks all. So I just plug the telephone cord into the dataport and dial up like I do home? Who charges me only 35 cents? I thought that Disney charged 50% of the call cost of your hotel bill.

You will have to find a local access number for your ISP. All local calls cost .35 for DVC members. If you are using a long distance access number, you will be charged the long distance surcharge- which I think is 50% plus the cost of the call.

If you have any question whether a number is a local call, ask for assistance from the WDW operator. They can advise on the status of the number you wish to call.

AOL, Netzero and many others will have local Orlando-area phone numbers to access the service. You will have to set up your laptop to use the service. Your ISP can likely provide help to set everything up.

Good Luck!
