I don't want to ride Mission Space, no way, not ever! But my SO does.

She is hoping that while on this ride, she doesn't see anyone "get sick" or it may make her sick. She is going to try it though.

So do allot of people really get sick during this ride? How long does the ride acually last? Thanks for the help.

I've been on it at least a dozen times and have never seen anyone get sick or have I ever felt sick.

Ditto- I've been on it probably 15 times and never once seen someone get sick, heard someone say they felt sick, or gotten sick myself.

People can get motion sick on any ride, I just think there is a lot of hype around MS and people getting sick.

I've been on it a few times, never felt sick or been sick..nor have I witnessed anyone else feeling ill.

Its funny, I wonder where the get sick hype comes from...I've seen tons of people get sick on roller coasters in Great Adventure (in my home state of NJ) but talking to people who go there, nobody ever says "I'm afraid I'll get sick on the roller coasters."

Hmmm

I personally did not like this ride at all, and my sis-in-law did have dry heaves after riding this. As we were all exiting the ride, here she is with her head between her knees heaving away. I felt so bad for her. She felt lousy for the rest of the afternoon. It didn't make me nauseous or anything, I just don't like the confinement of it all. My sis-in-law does have a "weak" stomach, can't eat lots of things since having colon cancer many years ago, so she may be an exception. She's only 44, so it wasn't an age thing. My husband, nephew, and son loved the ride though.

I went on it once and just my luck, a girl riding with us got sick. Luckily before the ride I grabbed a bag, just in case (since I had heard so much about it). She saw me doing so and asked me to pass her one...Thank God!

My sister, her boyfriend, my dad, my boyfriend, one of his friends and I have all been on Mission Space quite a few times and none of us have ever gotten sick. My dad and my boyfriend also have bad hearing in one ear, and I've heard that ear problems could cause people to get sick on the ride, but neither of them have ever had a problem.

He was 13 a the time, and just felt a little queasy, but for the rest of the day. I had sinus issues so I did not go, but I will on this next trip.
He (my son) did say he'd try it again because he thought it was so cool.

My co-worker went on it in December, and felt nauseous the rest of the day. I think it totally depends on the person.

I would never try it, because I have a history of motion sickness. Not worth ruining a day in Disney to me...

OK, I just had to have a chuckle over that comment.

The INNER EAR not only is involved with hearing, but also with, for lack of a better word, balance. Your inner ear has fluid in it, and during SOME types of movements or forces SOME people have a negative reaction to the motion of that fluid. If you can remember spinning around as a kid and feeling dizzy and off-balance, that's because of the spinning's effect on the inner ear. And as we all know, when SOME of us feel VERY dizzy we also feel sick to our stomachs.

Still with me? ....

The extreme spinning of Mission:Space causes the fluid in everyone's inner ear to slosh around, change shape, etc. As a result, SOME people feel dizzy, and of those who feel very dizzy SOME feel queasy, and of those who feel queasy SOME will vomit. All of this has nothing to do with someone having "bad hearing." I didn't want anyone to get the incorrect message that someone who's hard of hearing or deaf should avoid Mission:Space.

I loved Mission:Space. I also felt very dizzy and queasy for a while afterwards. I don't respond well to spinning. Don't even think of bringing me anywhere near those Teacups! But I love roller coasters and Tower of Terror and all that kind of stuff. M:S was exciting, it was a great ride, and I also knew what I was getting into because they warn you about half a bazillion times before you board the actual ride. I have nothing against the ride, I'm very glad I went on, but since I know I'm prone to feeling badly after intense spinning and such, I wasn't surprised to feel a little sick afterwards.

For the record, my Dad was 72 and in between rounds of chemotherapy when he rode M:S and he had NO ill-effects from the ride, which he called his favorite in all of WDW.

I rode it with DS5, and we both loved it and had NO problems at all. I'd say go for it, but if you're a little uneasy about it, take some Dramamine (non drowsy :thumbsup2 ) first, and you should be fine. Just follow the directions they hammer into your head before the ride.

You mean Mission Puke? Naw, nobody ever gets sick on that ride. :rolleyes1

I've heard that more people get sick on MS than just about all the other rides put together. No idea if that is true.

I have read accounts both here and on RADP of people getting sick or woozy and being useless for the rest of the day.

Since I am very susceptible to motion sickness (heck, I once got "sea" sick on a lake), I have not been brave enough to take a chance.

I felt sick. My daughter, who rode it once and generally LOVES roller coasters, would not ride it again. She also gets carsick and has to take dramamine for long trips, though. My son and other daughter loved it and did not feel sick.

It's really a matter of if you get motion sick. Don't eat before you go on it, as that will probably make it worse.

Everyone in my family loves MS. I love it too, but it does'nt like me. Makes me woozy.

I am a thrill ride fanatic, but spinning rides do make me ill. However instead of not going on most of them, I will take several dramamine (with Dr's approval of course) and ride them anyway. Mission space (on 2 dramamine) made me ill. It is definately a doozie of a spin ride if you normally can't ride them. I have only done it once, and skipped it the last several times I have gone but, I plan on doing it again next week (with 3 dramamine ;) ) It really is a great ride.

I have NEVER gotten sick on a ride. NEVER!

That being said, I have never been closer to throwing up then I was on MS. I went on thinking my stomach of steel would keep me safe and that this ride was going to be terrific. After the first blast off, I just wanted off and to be able to throw up in peace. I managed to keep it down and finish the ride. My husband said he has never seen me look so rough after a ride.

Leaving the park, I nearly had to run for the bathroom a half dozen times. I never actually threw up, but I felt naseous and head-achy for quite a few hours after.

The one and only time I went on it I was as sick as a dog, dizzy and yucky all day long, alot of people were not liking it. I should have known better, I get sick on body wars and star wars too but DH talked me into it

I am mildly prone to motion sickness (no teacup or spinning rides for me), but MS didn't bother me, and I rode it twice. The only thing I felt was a slightly off balance sensation - sort of like getting your sea legs after you get off a boat - when I got off, but nothing else. I was very careful do to exactly as the instructions said - keep looking straight ahead, don't look to the side, don't close your eyes, and breathe normally. I never actually felt like I was spinning - I just felt the pressure from the simulated g-forces. ThHe sensations were weird, but the ride was well worth it.

I had a friend who worked in Epcot as a manager. He told us that they had a custodian crew assigned permanently to this ride.

That being said, I have not personally seen anyone be sick on the ride. However, the ride right before us stopped the line for 15 minutes because the ride required cleaning. I did not ask.....I was too nervous. I can only assume.

I felt very very close to throwing up after riding MS! I didn't really feel much spinning, but it was more like car sickness. The little girl next to us told me to concentrate on stomping my feet if I felt sick and as skeptical as I was, I tried it and it seriously helped. It is a super cool ride. I am sooo glad I did it, but I am not sure I'd do it again.
Oh, they had barf bags in the center compartment if you need one! :woohoo:
