I am pretty new to the boards, but have been pouring over them in anticipation of our Disneyland trip last week and our planned trip to Disney World in May 2009. After reading many of the trip reports I decided to post mine (mainly cause I think I am boring my friends and family with the details, but feel that readers on this site will appreciate it more :) ) .

The trip was a very last minute idea. My last Disneyland trip was the week after Christmas 2006. Actually that is not accurate, I did go to DisneySea when I was in Tokyo May 2007 so that counts. Either way, I haven’t had any recent plans to return until this past February when I attended a conference hosted at the Disney World Beach Club resort. I didn’t go into any of the parks this time, though it killed me walking past the Magic Kingdom on my way to the hotel bus from my spa treatment at the Grand Floridian. I fell in love with the Beach Club Resort. This was the first time I had ever stayed on the property and except for a day trip to Epcot one year, this was really my first time at the Disney World resort. I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I got home and started planning a DisneyWorld trip for next year for me and my daughter.

But that wasn’t enough, I decided to change some tentative vacation plans for me and my daughter later this year and go to Disneyland for her Spring Break instead. My boyfriend was going to be working in Long Beach the same week, so bonus was we got to stay in his hotel room for no cost.

I think I realized I might be more excited than my DD8 when one morning trying to get out the door for work/school a few days before we were leaving I got sidetracked with Disney planning details. I started asking my DD “Do you want to take you mouseears? Do you want to take your TinkerBell wand?” She brought me back to reality when she asked “Can we talk about this later?” LOL.

DAY 1 Sunday March 16th
Sunday morning, March 16th, we woke up at 5am with a plan to leave Tucson by 6am. Due to my daughter confusing the shampoo and conditioner in the shower, it took me about 20 minutes to untangle her hair, so needless to say we hit the road a little later than planned. Thank goodness the coffee place by my house opens at 6am, I was able to get my coffee fix and some bagels and we hit the road. The drive was uneventful. I forgot that the halfway point in Blythe is in California not Arizona, which was where I was planning on refueling. I ended up paying about a dollar more a gallon than if I had filled up in Quartzsite, AZ (I always make this mistake). We also usually stop in Palm Springs so I can take a break and we can eat, but my DD was sleeping and neither of us was very hungry so we just decided to push through and get ourselves to the hotel.

I ordered 5 day park tickets for the cost of 3 days. My boyfriend wasn’t arriving until Monday. To take advantage of the 5 day tickets I booked a room at the Fairfield Inn across the street for the first night. I have never stayed here before and overall we were both very satisfied with the hotel. They gave us a 6th floor room with a view of the park. It was too bad we didn’t have more than one night because it would have been a great location to view the fireworks. The room was within walking distance of the parks, clean, decorated with Mickey and Disney pictures, had free internet AND parking (both pluses to me) and a nice little market/Pizza Hut/Seattle’s Coffee marketplace.

View from hotel room

We headed over to the Disneyland Park around 2:30pm. First stop we always make each trip is to get DD a new autograph book and pen. She loves the penny press machines, so we collected all the spare pennies and quarters in the house and got her a penny book as well. My DD wanted to go on Indiana Jones first. Which surprised me since she has only been on it once and cried afterwards because she thought the big ball at the end I had warned her about was going to be the size of a beach ball. But she loves thrill rides and said she was just going to keep her head down when the ball showed up this time.

Considering it was the Sunday before Spring Break I expected the park to be much more crowded than it was. We got Fastpasses for Indiana Jones with a return time of around 4pm. I was surprised there were even any left at that time of the day if that tells you about the crowds that day. As soon as we grabbed the Fastpasses DD saw Jungle Cruise and wanted to go on. It had a 5 minute wait posted so we headed on. It was our first official Disney ride this trip and we were both giddy and excited. After the ride I realized I really needed some food. We got in line for Bengal BBQ. The line was long and slow, DD asked if she could run through Tarzan’s TreeHouse while I waited. We got a Mickey pretzel and a chicken skewer. I have been to Disneyland at least a dozen times and I have never had these skewers. My DD and I fell in love with them. I don’t remember the exact order of things, but we managed to hit Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in addition to using our FastPasses for Indiana Jones in a short amount of time. DD did great on Indiana Jones this time, she loved it and wanted to do it again but said she would keep her head up next time when the ball comes out (we never made it back on, too crowded later in the week). Again, there were no real waits for anything. DD had her heart set on Splash Mountain, but it was too cold and was one of the few rides with a long wait.

We stopped in the Pooh store and bought 3 of the trader character packs. There are different sets with 3 characters in each one but you don’t know what you are getting. They seemed fun so we got a Star Wars one for my boyfriend, I picked one that could have the Toy Story little green man (my favorite) and DD picked a holiday one. I didn’t get my little green man, but DD got 3 princesses…she made a great choice.

We made our way over to TomorrowLand to check out the line for Finding Nemo and Fastpass availability for Space Mountain. Both had long lines and SM I think was out of Fastpasses. We went on Autopia since the wait wasn’t bad. At this point we were getting hungry for dinner. When I asked DD what she wanted she said “More of that chicken”. We headed back to Bengal BBQ, hitting the Dole stand on the way. DD got a pineapple juice and I got a Dole Float (another first for me). We got 3 chicken skewers to split and I have to say it was one of the most satisfying meals I have ever had. My daughter, in love with this chicken, said she was “in chicken heaven”.

Chicken Heaven

I wanted to get out of that area before it started getting crowded for the first Fantasmic showing. We went to FantasyLand where I bought DD a sweatshirt. It was freezing and she needed something warmer to wear. Fantasyland wasn’t too busy, we went on Pinocchio and Snow White, than hit the Matterhorn one of my DD’s all time favorites. We walked back over to Nemo to see if the wait had lessened with people heading over to Fantasmic. Score…20 minute wait!! Overall I thought they did a nice job, my daughter loved the submarine.

Here I need to insert a small gripe. What is it with everyone right on top of you in the lines? I tend to leave a good 6 inches to a foot between me and the person in front of me. First because I need some personal space and second because I think it is rude to be right on top of someone and constantly bumping into them. Every line I was in the people behind me were right on top of me (adults and children) constantly hitting my backpack. I even had a little girl in the Finding Nemo line tap me when there was literally a gap of about a foot between me and the person in front of me and said to me “there is room”. I said “I know” and turned away (kind of mean I know, I was getting tired from the early morning). I finally had to resolve to get over it or else I knew I would lose my mind.

Back to the report. Taking a tip from the boards I decided that we would hit the 2nd Fantasmic show (again cause I like to avoid crowds if at all possible). One of the best tips from these boards was to board the train close to the end of the first Fantasmic show and take it to New Orleans Square. We got on the train in TomorrowLand and got to Main Street Station when the fireworks started. The fireworks were still going when we got off the train in New Orleans Square. We sat at a table at one of the restaurants to wait out the crowds. As soon as the fireworks were over (they were cut short due to the wind) people started leaving and we went and found a seat. We found a ledge we could sit on to the left of one of the elevated lightboards. I was worried that it wasn’t the best location but it seemed like a comfortable place to sit. This is when the best part of our trip happened.

We were there for about 10 or 15 minutes, eating popcorn and laughing, still just thrilled to be there. A cast member who was directing traffic came up to my DD and asked her name. After my DD told her she said “We have been looking for you all day!! Mickey told me to give you these beads!” She gave my DD the beads and my DD was very appreciative. My DD wanted her to sign her autograph book and Cameron, the cast member, happily signed her book. I also went over and asked if I could take her picture with my DD since it would make a nice memory. I could see her talking to other cast members, one of who was on a walkie talkie. She told us if we needed anything to ask her. Soon, she came back to us and told my DD she had something else for her and gave her a light up necklace. Than she started chatting us up, asking where we were from, how long we were staying, etc. She kept excusing herself to go back to the girl on the walkie talkie.

At this point I thought something was up. She finally came back and said “Would you like better seats?” and I said “Sure!” She said I am going to take you over to one of our priority areas. She took my DD’s hand and led us over to a roped off area right in the center of the viewing area. I asked her name, shook her hand and thanked her again for being so nice to my DD. They let us in this roped off area, we had to sit on the ground, but we were right in front of the water (about one level up). They let in about 2 other families, but otherwise the area was empty for the show. I have to say that this did not make some people happy, I heard more than one person asking why they couldn’t sit there when it was practically empty. I wondered this too to be honest, I had assumed it would fill up with other people they chose to sit there. Overall a great day. We were freezing and tired, but we had a wonderful first day.

To save space I will add a new post for each day...Day 2 coming soon.

DAY 2 Monday March 17th
Since we had such a long day on Sunday I decided to let my daughter sleep in. After she woke up we packed up, loaded up the car to move to my boyfriends hotel later and had breakfast in the hotel marketplace. I have to say I need my morning iced latte and one of the selling points of this hotel was that it had a Seattle’s Best Coffee on site. DD was able to get cereal and used some of her money in the attached arcade while I finished eating. DD wanted to go to DCA today (another reason I wasn’t rushing her in the morning since it opens later). We headed over around 10:30 and immediately made our way over to Grizzly River Run for Fastpasses. We didn’t really need them, the standby wait was about 25 minutes but we got Fastpasses anyway.

We had about an hour before we could return. My DD wanted to go into the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. After that we went on Mulholland Madness, about a 10-15 minute wait. After this my DD tried her best to get me to go on California Screamin. I am not a huge thrill ride fan, I didn’t even go on the Matterhorn or any other Disney rollercoasters until I was an adult. I can handle fast and some drops, I can’t handle being turned upside down. I also can’t handle too fast (I almost lost my cookies on Mission to Mars in Epcot…I will never go on that again). As much as she tried I had to refuse. Talking to my aunt who had been on it, she thought my DD might get frightened. She also tried to get me to go on the Ferris Wheel. No luck there either, I HATE ferris wheels. I don’t know why but I start shaking uncontrollably on them. I said I would compromise and go on one of the non-moving cars to which she replied “That’s no fun”. At this point the honeymoon was over and the pouting started. Though it was brief.

We went back to Grizzly River Rapids, one of our favorite rides, which cheered her up. We had lunch at Pacific Wharf which I had never been too before. The weather was great. After this the DD wanted to go back to Disneyland. She loved trying to figure out what the yellow park hopper stamps said whenever we park hopped because they would get kind of blurred when they stamped our hands.

The park was much busier today, the Spring Break crowds seem to have finally arrived. We spent some time in ToonTown. DD really wanted to thank Mickey for the beads she got the night before. The line was very long to see Mickey and she didn’t want to wait. DD really wanted to find the little green man for me in those trader packs, so we bought two more. She again got a great selection, but no little green man.

We went back over to Critter Country. Cameron told us she would be working the Winnie the Pooh ride, and DD really wanted to see her again. We passed Big Thunder on the way and it had a 20 minute wait so we rode that again. The people in front of us in the standby line tried to skip and went under the rope to the Fastpass line, but they were stopped by the cast member at the 2nd checkpoint (now I know why they have that 2nd checkpoint! Line cutters!). They were turned away and had to go back to the end of the line. I personally found this amusing. We grabbed Fastpasses after we got off since it is another of my DD’s favorites and she wanted to ride again. We went on the Winnie the Pooh ride again. Cameron was not there, we were too early. We also waited in line to meet Pooh and Tigger. Tigger did an excellent job messing up my DD’s hair, and it was sticking straight up in all directions when we were done.

We went on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad again. I have spoiled my daughter with Fastpass and as a result she wouldn’t wait in a line that was longer than 45 minutes. There weren’t a lot of options that did not have a long wait. We went to TomorrowLand and got Fastpasses for Buzz. I had wanted a cookie ice cream sundae. We went to the ice cream parlor on Main Street. My DD didn’t want ice cream but we hit the mother lode in the penny arcade…we finally found a bunch of penny machines. I followed my DD around the penny arcade eating my ice cream while she pressed penny after penny. We were getting tired but had to wait for my boyfriend to contact me since he hadn’t checked into the hotel yet, so I couldn’t get into the room. We decided to head back to DCA to watch the Pixar Parade. Glad we did since I read it has been cancelled for now. I love the Pixar movies so I enjoyed the parade. My boyfriend contacted me after the parade ended so we headed to his hotel in Downey around 6pm and called it a night.

Below is a link to the Pixar Parade pictures. Photobucket reversed the order and I can't figure out how to fix it. To see it in order of the parade choose reverse

DAY 3: Tuesday March 18th
We had a 12:30pm ADR for Blue Bayou. We always go to Blue Bayou, Goofy’s Kitchen and Ariel’s Grotto. After we woke up, late again, DD said she wanted to go swimming in the hotel pool. I think she was a little wiped out. I didn’t think we would make our ADR but it was still early so I decided to wait to cancel the ADR until I was sure we wouldn’t make it. DD said she wanted to swim in the hotel pool all day. Because we had 5 days I didn’t want to push her and said this was fine. After 30 minutes she changed her mind and said she wanted to go back to Disneyland (it was an inside pool, we are from Tucson, I think we just prefer being outside in the sun when we swim). We showered and left but I knew we wouldn’t make our Blue Bayou ADR. I wasn’t that disappointed. While I love the atmosphere and the Monte Cristo, I wasn’t up for the heavy food so I called and cancelled the ADR.

It was another crowded day. We really never got as much accomplished as we did the first day of the trip. I wanted to see the Muppet 3D show since I never have. Very cute, glad we saw it. After that, we started getting hungry and when I asked DD where she wanted to eat she said she wanted more of that chicken. We hit Bengal BBQ again so my DD could be in chicken heaven. We went on the Sailing Ship Columbia. It was not a very busy day. We spent a lot of time browsing the stores. I know at some point we went to the Tiki Room which I hadn’t been in since I was a kid. After we were in there I remembered why I never went back in. Neither of us really enjoyed it though I am not sure why.

We did have late Fastpasses for Grizzly River Run, around 5 or 6pm. When we walked back there was a huge line for the Fastpass check in. I still don’t know what was going on but we both decided it was cold and we did not want to wait in that line. We were supposed to go to dinner with my boyfriend, so we went back to DTD to get the tram to the parking garage.

DAY 4: Wednesday March 19th
We had a 9am ADR for Goofy’s Kitchen. I was surprised we made it. My DD said she didn’t have her autograph book with her when we got in the car. She ran back up to the room and it wasn’t there either. Turns out it had fallen on the car floor and was hidden by the cooler. Than I made a wrong turn getting off the freeway, but luckily we made it with a few minutes to spare.

The food was good as usual. I ordered a very overpriced mimosa to calm my nerves a bit after the morning craziness. We took pictures with Pluto and were visited by Goofy, the Mad Hatter, Chip, Dale, and my DD’s favorite, Cinderella. My DD wasn’t very hungry and we were in a weird little corner that got very crowded when a large party was sat next to us. We didn’t spend as much time there as we usually do. I think my DD was anxious to get into the parks.

We decided to take the monorail from DTD since we wanted to get Fastpasses for SM. There weren’t that many people up there yet and I remembered yesterday they said the monorail trip was one way so everyone had to unload and re-board. For some reason when the monorail showed up they didn’t make everyone get off so very few people got to load. We were standing near the second set of doors but because so few people unloaded they only opened the front door and everyone crowded over there and we missed boarding. This meant we had to wait for it to return. At this point that monorail station was getting packed. Same thing happened with the 2nd monorail, hardly anyone got off, but we managed to get on. I am still not sure why they didn’t make everyone unload when there were so many people waiting.

We got Fastpasses for Space Mountain…finally. It was about 11am and our return time was around 5pm. DD wanted to go to the Princess Faire. On the way over we passed the face painting station which she wanted to do. After getting her face painted like Marie from the Aristocats, we went to the Princess Faire. We skipped waiting in line to meet the princesses since we were doing Ariel’s Princess Lunch the next day. We listened to Belle tell a story and DD got to decorate a crown.

We went back to ToonTown and got Fastpasses for Roger Rabbit. We wandered around ToonTown to wait out our Fastpasses. DD climbed on some rocks and posed like a cat behind some plants until she was politely asked to not climb on the rocks by a cast member…oops. We went to Roger Rabbit which I have only been on once, right after it opened, before Fastpasses. I remember waiting over an hour and being extremely disappointed with the ride. What a difference a Fastpass makes, I found the ride much more enjoyable this time.

We stopped in the Small World Toy gift shop to give one last try to finding the little green man in the trader pack (it was getting expensive). This time when I was feeling the pack I could feel the little antenna. I told my DD “I think we have a winner”. We told the CM what we were trying to find and he felt it too and thought we had it. I told him I felt like Charlie looking for the Golden Ticket. We left the store, sat down and I told my DD to open it. As soon as she opened it she screamed “We got it!!” She was so happy, she really wanted to me to find the little green man.

I am having trouble remembering what else we did, but around 5 we headed back to SM. The ride was down and the CM said it would be about 30 minutes. At this point I was pretty exhausted and was planning on riding and leaving. We wandered around the shops and sat in the shade for awhile. About 45 minutes later the SM signs were not on yet but I saw people rushing over so I told DD we had to go. The ride was open they just hadn’t turned the signs on yet. I haven’t been on SM since before the refurbishment and my DD has never been on. We got on right away and we both loved it!

We were going to try and stay for the Electrical Parade but I was exhausted. As we were walking down Main Street the parade was about to start. We stayed so my DD could watch. I was losing my patience with a CM during the parade. They rushed us across the street and told us to get behind this rope. So we were standing there with others and had a good view but we weren’t in anyone’s way. Well I guess the rope we were behind was to keep people from crossing the street, so she opened it but I thought she opened it to let people sit on the sidewalk. I thought this because she was ushering people through, which I thought was to let us sit down not to cross the street. I was tired and wasn’t catching on. We sat at the sidewalk and she came over and told us we couldn’t sit there. So we went back and stood behind the rope like before. Than she told us we couldn’t stand there either. I said “I don’t know what I am doing wrong” and she said we had to be inside the ropes along the street. So I pulled DD over and found her a spot hoping the CM would stop scolding me.

One of the funniest things we saw during the parade was when the big float with the princesses stopped in front of us. A man behind started yelling “Cinderella!” she looked over and he blew her a kiss. She moved her head to the side and mouthed “You missed” in a very cheeky but sweet, Cinderella way. It was hysterical.

DAY 5: Thursday March 20th
As much as I wanted to make an Early Entry we were both too tired to get out of bed that early during our trip. I know it is mainly Fantasy Land anyway and my DD didn’t seem too concerned with those rides so I decided not to worry about it.

We had a 1pm reservation at Ariel’s Grotto and got to the park around noon. We decided to see if we could get Fastpasses for Splash Mountain before lunch because it was the one ride my DD wanted to go on the entire trip that we could not get on due to long lines or cold weather. We took the omnibus to the end of Main Street. When we got to Splash Mountain we got Fastpasses for 3:30pm. Than we went over to DCA for our lunch.

Before we got to the restaurant we grabbed Fastpasses for Soarin’ that had a time of 6pm. Lunch at Ariel’s Grotto was nice. DD met Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella (again, though she didn’t seem to notice it was a different person). After lunch we went on Triton’s Carousel and played the fishing game on the midway where you always win a prize. DD won a stuffed blue turtle.

We went back to Disneyland and took the train from Main Street to New Orleans Square. DD could not contain her excitement when we got to Splash Mountain. She laughed her head off after the big drop. She also laughed when we saw our picture because I always have the same face…eyes closed with my mouth open screaming. I also managed to kill my cell phone by putting it in a mesh outside pocket. It got soaked. I couldn’t get it to work and found a payphone outside the New Orleans Square bathrooms to call my boyfriend. As soon as his voicemail picked up the band walked by so I had to yell into the phone (instead of paying for another $17 phone call…I got the charge yesterday).

We walked around the shops at New Orleans Square and DD decided she really wanted to start pin trading. I had tried to avoid this because I knew it could get expensive but after I explained she would have to use her Disney money and allowance she agreed she still wanted to do it. She got a starter pack with 4 pins, 2 of each kind so she could trade the extra two. She immediately traded with a CM walking around the store. She loved it, anytime she saw a cast member with pins she would stop and ask to trade.

We walked around DTD for a bit. I was hoping to find a cell phone kiosk, but no luck. We walked around World of Disney until it was time to go back to DCA for Soarin’. It was finally time to go. We were both sad to leave and waved goodbye to Disneyland as we were leaving.

I really enjoyed your trip report, thanks for posting that. It sounds like you had a great trip and that is so sweet that your DD got beads from Mickey!

I wasn't able to see the parade slideshow because it said it was a private album and I needed to log in.

I thought that was really cute about cinderella mouthing "you missed" to the man, it's kinda creepy that a grown man would blow her a kiss...but that's just my opinion :goodvibes

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't received any yet and was worried maybe I rambled on too much (which I tend to do :) ).

I will see how I make my photo album public I have never used photo bucket before.

I think that guy was just trying to be funny but her reaction was priceless. I wonder if they train them to handle those types of issues.

Yeah I am surprised to be the first one to respond actually, usually I have to read through 4 pages of inside jokes and responses just to get to the trip report so this was nice, but at the same time kinda strange. I imagine alot of people just read without having time to respond, but I didn't think you rambled on at all. I found it very entertaining! And your daughter is so cute with Tigger.

Thanks for making the link public by the way, it worked! I have never seen that parade so the pictures were very nice, I always go in November so it's just the christmas parade every year.

This is my favorite part. It competes a little with "chicken heaven", though. :rotfl2:

We decided to head back to DCA to watch the Pixar Parade. Glad we did since I read it has been cancelled for now. I love the Pixar movies so I enjoyed the parade. My boyfriend contacted me after the parade ended so we headed to his hotel in Downey around 6pm and called it a night.
WHAT?! How can it be canceled, it's brand new!

We were so looking forward to seeing it in a few weeks! (OK, by "we" I mean "I"...) No offense, but I hope you are wrong about that. :(

It was cancelled for a bit due to some safety issues. There were other posts on it. I think it is back on but I am not certain.

And congratulations on finally finding your (little green) man! :thumbsup2

yeah my daughter yelled "we found it!!" pretty loud. LOL

Thanks for the all the feedback I love it. I will post some more pics later tonight. I am also working on writing up a report of my day at Tokyo DisneySea and will post that soon with more pictures.

Hi
I realy enjoyed your trip report.

But I have to ask...what is a pack trader? Is it like a surprise package?

Bengal BBQ is also one of my new favorites too. I love the Bacon Wrapped Asparagus!!

here are the pics of the Trader Packs:

Hi

Bengal BBQ is also one of my new favorites too. I love the Bacon Wrapped Asparagus!!

I added some pictures above. It is a small bag with 3 Disney characters inside. There are different sets. Each set has 18, and each pack contains 3 of that set. You don't know what you are getting until you open them.

I also added some more pictures to the trip report. I think I am a little obsessed. :)

Great TR! Sounds like y'all had a great time!

I have never eaten at the Bengal BBQ, but now I want to try those chicken skewers. I can't believe I've been missing out on "chicken heaven" all these years! :)
