DL Flu Precautions?

I just got back yesterday and I saw three people- traveling as a group- wearing masks. Besides that, no real sense that anyone was doing much about it.

My 2 cents: I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I just saw a headline that said in the whole world, there have been 331 cases and 10 deaths. Wow! That sounds like a heck of a problem to me!!! :rotfl2:

Not to be insensitive- cause ANYONE who has a loved one who is sick deserves sympathy and hey, this thing COULD get much bigger than it is right now- but come on, this is kind of nuts. When you have 10 deaths all over the world from this flu, doesn't it seem obvious that so much of this is media hype?

Exactly. More people died in car accidents today than total from this flu. I hope it turns out to be nothing big and the media drops this already.

What happened to your avatar Krissy?

I agree, media hype is ridiculous!

Idk. When I got tagged it disappeared lol but I dont want to try to fix it in case I erase my tags.

Gisele I'm sorry about you losing your father btw...I didn't know. I do hope you finally make it to DL this year...flu or no flu!

Copy the words and general idea of color of the words then fix the avatar. If you mess up just write the Tag Fairy and she will fix it. She fixed mine once before and is a very nice person.

I thought this would be of interest...

AND... an excerpt from it pertaining to air travel...

"But when people get scared, they sometimes say or do dumb things. That includes Vice President Joseph Biden, who said Thursday morning on the Today show that the swine flu virus could spread easily on airplanes, and that he has advised his family against traveling anywhere on mass transit. "When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft," Biden told Today host Matt Lauer. "I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the subway." (See pictures of thermal scanners hunting for swine flu.)
In fact, as Dr. Richard Besser, the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pointed out just a few hours later, there's no real risk for a healthy person in the U.S. to ride mass transit — not with the outbreak as small as it is currently. It's true that crowded trains and subway cars can be a vector for disease transmission if sick people are on board. You can catch the flu if you're within about six feet of a sick person — otherwise known as the "breathing space" — who coughs or sneezes on you, and a small amount of the virus can survive on inanimate surfaces. But with just a tiny number of cases in the U.S. right now, there's little risk that you'll encounter a sick person — certainly not enough to make it worth becoming a shut-in.
(To the Vice President's point about air travel: Aboard a plane, the air flows side to side, with air circulating in from above and traveling across rows — with little front-to-back air movement — before exiting the cabin. Most aircraft also ventilate the cabin with fresh air from outside and use HEPA filters to clean recirculated air.)"

but Vice President Biden didn’t tamp down the hyperbole Thursday, saying he would tell his family not to get on a plane right now or go in any confined space.

As someone else mentioned..he amended that statement to mean..if anyone in his family were sick..he would tell them to stay off planes and subways...
