Dissappointment going from Poly to POFQ?

Well, just got back from the Poly with my 28 yo daughter and we loved the Poly. Cost $350 a night but was able to handle okay. Next year I would like to take our whole family and would need 4 rooms there. $350 x4 ! My question is I am considering POFQ and getting 4 rooms there at an incredible less amount of money. We have stayed at the FW cabins and not really considering a villa. My question is.... do you think I would be unhappy with changing from Poly to POFQ? We will have a 3 yo autistic GD with us. We plan on paying for the rooms ourselves and the kids will be paying all their other expenses. What would you do? Do you think I should put my nose to the grindstone and still stay at the POly? Even with an AP there is still a big gap in the cost of the room.

Poly is my favorite, but it is a little pricey for every trip. We have enjoyed our stays at POR and POFQ (it is really a lovely resort). In July, we're going to stay at CSR. The rooms are definitely smaller in the moderate resorts and the beds are only full size, not queen size. I think that anyone who loves disney can be happy at any resort. While you've been a bit "spoiled" now, you can make POFQ a happy place.

One other thing you might consider is Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge. Those are deluxe resorts, but not as expensive as the real deluxes.

The problem with the Poly is the transportation is so good and so is the atmosphere. It's a big decision for me because I know they would love the Poly as much as DD and I did. AKL may be a good choice too. Is the transportation at AKL better that POFQ?

We will be visiting the AKL in July, and from what I understand the transport there is good because they do not share with any other resort. Your GD would also probable love the animals.

We've stayed at both the Poly and POFQ and while the Poly is awesome and not really comparable to POFQ, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. POFQ is really nice, compact, easy to get around, quiet, nice pool, average food court....I think it would be a great choice for a big family vacation :)

We are Poly/WL regulars and stayed at POR a few years ago. We really liked it - you just have to keep in mind it is a moderate, not a deluxe and I think you will really enjoy it. The theming at the moderates is wonderful and we found the transportation at POR, while not the monorail, to be just fine. I will say we were spoiled by the Poly and WL's closeness to the MK - we felt a little removed at POR - but that is also a reason as to why some people love POR/POFQ!

Have you checked into the WL? It's in the middle of Poly and POFQ price wise and it is beautiful and so close to the MK.

Just be realistic about your expectations and I think you'll have a great time!

We've stayed at PO-FQ four times and have never been disapointed. We were considering the AK lodge for our upcoming trip , but were able (with an e-mail code) to get two rooms at PO-FQ for the price of 1 at the AKL. We've always had good bus service at PO-FQ (better thatn the Beach Club or the Swan) and the themeing and architecture of this resort is absolutely beautiful. To us, it is by far the best moderate.

We had sort of the same situation last November. We switched mid-vacation from AKL to POR, because some friends came in and they wanted us to stay at the same resort as them and couldn't afford the AKL. We made the move for the final 3 nights of a 2 week vacation and were extremely disappointed! I guess POR was alright overall, but the difference in quality is huge, IMO! AKL, and Poly for that matter, has a real quality resort feel (room service, great restaurants, bellmen, etc.) while POR has more of a motel type feel (outdoor hallways, smaller rooms, etc.). It's all a matter of taste and I don't begrude anyone's appreciation of POR, it's just a different class of accommodation. If you can afford to stay at the Poly, I'd do it without a second thought.

Having stayed at both resorts, I can say that they are worlds apart! I didn't particularly care for POFQ at all!...but that is just me! Maybe you can consider WL...it is the most affordable Deluxe(as well as AKL)!

I am thinking I should just start really saving for the trip now. I know for sure they will love the POly and I would be so upset if we didn't like another resort. We are not completely crazy on the parks anymore and like to hang around the resort and relax by the pool too. But the convenience and views of the Poly are really too much to resist. Thanks everyone. I was hoping that the difference in resorts wasn't too remarkable but sounds like it is. We had only stayed at the FW cabins which they all love and I wanted to try the Poly with my DD and now we are hooked I guess!

Stay at POFQ but spend some time at the Poly. I like driving, some don't, but I would advise making PS for breakfast at the Poly on your MK days, valet car and enjoy food and some Poly atmosphere. Monorail to MK. Maybe plan a dinner there on another night as well.

POR and POFQ are actually very pretty resorts. POFQ is my personal favorite. I would just like to throw in another thought which is renting from a DVC owner. We just returned from a stay in Old Key West and were pleasantly surprised. The cost for a studio was 1/3 of what you would pay to stay at the Poly. In the DVC resorts you can book a studio, 1 or 2 bedroom villa and in some places more. Old Key West is the least expensive of the DVC resorts but our room was spacious and the gounds were beautiful. You also have the added benefit of the kitchen.

Just a thought ; )

I really think if you can swing it the Poly is the way to go. Its sounds like you talked yourself into staying there and would not really have the best trip if you were somewhere other than the Poly. I also try to make reservations at other Disney resorts but always do whatever I can to swing the Poly.
No where else on property does it for me like the poly. I think since this is all your doing you need to do what is best for you....What an awesome trip for your family...I only hope someday I can do the same for my exrended family... :sunny:

Have you ever thought about splitting your stay? If you will be going for a week you could start the vacation at the POR then switch to the POLY. That way you could try the mod. hotel. If you are a little dissapointed you know you will be moving up in a few days. The savings would be pretty good also. Whatever you decide I'm sure your family will have fun. Good luck. ::MinnieMo
