If you stay onsite can you manage without a vehicle? Can you just use Disney transportation to get from resort to resort to theme park hopping and to Downtown Disney and back? Or do you need a vehicle? Thank you.

Yes, you can use Disney transportation to get to the parks, water parks, and DTD but, NOT resort-to-resort. :goodvibes

We haven't taken a car in a long time. We just always use the WDW transportation. If you want to go to another resort from your resort, take a bus to one of the parks or DTD and then take the bus to the other resort. Does anyone know if you can also get resort buses from TTC?

I've never used a car at Disney and I have never felt the need to have one. Disney transportation is very easy to use and IMO much better than driving around on your own.

If you need to get from Resort to Resort just grab a taxi.

yes, it is very easy to get around. To go from resort to resort you would have to make a bus transfer at a park or DTD, ortherwise you can just take a cab for a few bucks.

Unless you have plans to go off property, there is no need to have a car. In all of our visits to WDW staying on property we have never felt the need to have a car even with no kids, young kids, teen kids and young adults. The WDW bus system is very good in spite of what many posters will complain about. It's not perfect, but what is.

I have never taken a car to WDW. I don't mind waiting a few minutes for a bus. Driving hundreds of miles a week for work, a vacation from driving is great. Never felt that I was wasting precious vacation time by having to depend on the busses.

Our first trip, we flew in and rented a rental car. We stuffed all of our luggage in this very small rental (it was supposed to be mid sized, but it barely fit the 5 of us and our luggage), drove to our resort, and parked it there. We literally NEVER used it again until we left to go home. :rotfl:

The disney buses are soooooo much more convenient than trying to navigate yourself around disneyworld. Needless to say, we opted NOT to rent a car for our 2nd trip and will not be using one on our upcoming trip. It was such MUCH more pleasant experience. ;)

HTH, have a great trip

If you feel you need to rent a car you can get on at the Car Care center. We usually rent a car for one day to go and buy snacks and stuff. Plus this gives us a chance to eat off site and save some big $$.

So with the disney transportation the buses do not go from resort to resort..you have to go to a park and get a bus to the resort, right?

Now what about park to park buses? Can you get a bus from MK to AK or DHS? Or do you have to go to a resort and then get a park bus?

If the buses do park hopping then I doubt I will rent a vehicle. But if not...I am thinking of renting the vehicle. Especially when wdw tells you to allow 60-90 minutes of travel time to get to adr's!

Correct, no resort to resort busses.

Yes, you can get a bus from park to park, but not DTD to park or vice versa.

Robert P's rules of WDW transpo:
When you leave the room in plenty of time for your ADR, a bus will be waiting, and you'll be terribly early (at least 30 minutes or more). If you are cutting it close at all, the busses you need to take will disappear into the Bermuda Triangle (or Mars) for at least 30-40 minutes, and you will be late for your ADR.

In prior years when I could rent a car for less than $100/wk I did, just because I like the convenience of it. Now with rentals being so crazy, the last few trips I haven't bothered when we were staying on-site. A couple of times I took a cab when going resort to resort for ADRs when I cut the time too tight, but it was still much less expensive than a rental car.

We used to have a car on property, whether it is our own or one that we rented. This past March was the first time we went without a car and for the first day we were a little annoyed because we weren't sure how to manage the transportation properly. After day one, we quickly learned how to use it correctly and really enjoyed not having the car. This December we are returning to WDW and we are not using a car again :thumbsup2.

We have gone two times and did not have a car either time. We got around just fine. Disney does a very good job getting you from here to there. Understand it is not an on demand service, but the waits are usually minimal.

You don't really need a car when visiting WDW. It can come in handy if you want to pick up groceries or go directly to another resort. But you have to weigh the cost of the car against the savings in groceries and cab fares.

Except for Shades of Green, there are no WDW buses to any of the WDW resorts from the TTC.

We have not rented a car while staying at a WDW resort. The transportation is great as long as you avoid the big crowds at park openings and closings. We always get to a park early enough to beat the crowds. At park closing we just take our time and let people stampede to the exits. After 15-20 minutes a slow walk to the park exit will leave you with a peaceful and quiet bus station.
I don't need the unnecessary expense of a rental car when Disney takes care of everything. Hey, you are on vacation! Slow down and enjoy! We all spend way too much time racing from one place to another.

Man, thaks for all of the replies. We always go to DL and we live close enough to drive. Sowe never have to worry about drinks and cheap snacks. I guess if I need to get those items like milk, juice or water we will need to rent a car? Are there any stores onsite? Also, I realize this may be a really dumb question, but what is the TTC? :confused3
Thanks,
Goldie

For us part of being on vacation is not having to drive and I find WDW transportation great. Yes you sometimes have to wait but when I am on vacation time I don't mind too much.

As for groceries - most of the resort gift shops have a small amount of sundreis but they charge premium prices.

In addition there are a few grocery delivery services, we use wegoshop.com. Give them a list and they will shop for you at competitive prices and deliver to the resort for a (imho reasonable) fee. Others here on the boards use garden grocer and I think goodings delivers as well.

TTC is the Transportation and Ticket center and also the parking lot for the Magic Kingdom. If your staying onsite and using Disney transportation you probably won't have to use the TTC unless you take the monorial from MK/Epcot.

If you are just looking for quick snacks at real world prices, then yes you can get those on property and without a car.

Take a bus from your resort to Downtown Disney and get off at the second stop. You then proceed right after getting off the bus and cross the road at the traffic light. There is a Hess gas station/convenience store right there. They have real world prices for soda/beer, bottled water, chips, etc.

If you need something more substantial, I would suggest www.wegoshop.com or www.gardengrocer.com

Both of those establishments will shop for you for a small fee and deliver the groceries to your resort. The fee is STILL more cost effective than a rental car or private town car with a grocery stop. You may even find the fee is worth it for quick stuff, saving you the time from the Hess station stop.
