Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

The very definition of Hidden Gem! We just experienced it a couple years ago and now it's a must do......

Yes it is now on my list to go and find it and enjoy some time there on our next trip. We have 9 nights at BC, so plenty of time to try it. Although I do LOVE truffle, so truffle fries would have sent me over the edge on the yummy meter. But I will have to find something else there to do that for me.

I was on the balcony the first night. While I was out there my husband pulled an open suitcase in front of the balcony door to unpack. When I came in I was looking for the opening in the curtains and I stepped in to push them open. I tripped on the suitcase and fell against the sharp corner of the desk and hit the side of my temple, then hit my cheek against the chair. Huge lumps on my face that night, and I later discovered I had a concussion. Pics in my trip report! Didn't stop me though. I'm too stubborn. LOL

Oh my goodness. I am so glad you are ok!

Hi! I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am trying to find the post about the type of mattress used in the BC Club level rooms. Thanks!

From Page 1, Post 14- Other Useful Info. You can click on the link for the order form:

Many people have commented on the comfort of the mattresses at the resort and the daybed/sleepers.

The BC mattresses in renovated rooms are Beautyrest brand by Simmons Hospitality. Label

Thank you WDW4us2006 and Wood Nymph for "uncovering" the mattress info!

If you forget the important tools:

I had NO idea that they sold wine there. Will be bringing my cork screw on future non-CL trips.

:welcome: to the thread! Do you have an upcoming trip?

I have also bought wine in Disney Springs (the old Marketplace store when it was Downtown Disney). Even though I had packed my wine from home in my luggage, my bags didn't arrive until something like 10 PM, so I made an emergency run to Dowtown...voila, problem solved.

Here's another tip... on our girls trip in 2015 we found ourselves in the predicament of remembering the wine, but forgetting a corkscrew. Instead of monkeying around, we requested a corkscrew from housekeeping and it was delivered promptly. I don't know if they have any souvenir corkscrews for sale in the Beach Club or Yacht Club Marketplace locations.

We are so excited we have just booked Beach Club for April 29-May 6. It is our first time staying at the Beach Club. The travelers are me and my brother.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1 of this thread.

Which resorts share buses and in what order?

:welcome: to the thread.

As others have posted, typically only the BC and YC resorts share a bus to and from the theme parks with YC first for pickup and drop off.

It has been a few years since I have been to Downtown Disney (see, not since the name change), so I don't know if the Disney Springs route includes other resorts (possibly Boardwalk).

Do you have an upcoming trip to the resort or are you in research mode?

:cool2:

I am so happy that I am returning to the Beach Club in September 15-20! We just got back from celebrating our twins graduation from high school at POR and I upgraded my ticket to an annual pass. We had a couple of meals here and realized how much we missed this area of the World.
Food and Wine Festival here we come!

:welcome: back!!!

I'll add you to the list.

:woohoo:

I think that the wine they sell in the BC Marketplace has a screw cap. :)

We went to Disney Springs on Saturday and the bus was only for Yacht Club and Beach Club. It didn't share with any other resorts. :)

We spent the afternoon at SAB (Storm Along Bay) and it was fairly crowded. We managed to find chairs in the shade and the family next to us left an open box lunch on their chair while they went swimming. First the birds arrived to help themselves to french fries and Doritos. But once the squireel showed up, I grabbed the lunch and dumped it in the garbage. Then I grabbed a couple of small child's swim vests that people left on an empty table and returned it to the rack. When I returned my husband told me that the squirell had dropped a piece of fried chicken on my chair. Sure enough, there was some chicken sitting there. I had to get a new towel. A little later another piece of chicken fell on my husband (we were under the trees on the Yacht Club side). I guess we had a vengeful squirrel on our hands. ;)

Last night we walked over to Picabu's buffeteria at the Dolphin resort. They had tacos and burritos and other food. It was pretty good. The choices here at the resort counter services are very slim. So it is nice to have a bigger selection over at the Dolphin. :)

Dee, could you add my stay to Be Our Guest list?

Thanks!! Great work on this board! So helpful!

Sure thing!

Glad you are finding this board to be helpful.

Not really... we've stayed at the BC over 20 times and have never had an issue with the bus being full from the YC (we usually go mid May or mid December). However, we have noticed a lot more people at the BC bus stop during our last few trips (like multiple bus loads waiting at once).

This happened to us a couple of times during our trip in May. We generally only had a problem with the Magic Kingdom buses in the morning. One morning we got to the bus stop and there were at least 50 people waiting for the MK bus. We decided to powerwalk to the YC and catch the bus. We got there just in time and were the only people on the bus at the YC. We loaded up a full bus at the BC and the bus stop was still swamped as we pulled away.

My advice: if the BC bus stop is busy, check the monitor with the bus arrival times and decide if you have time to walk to the YC. Also, try to beat the MK morning rush by catching the bus at 8:00 AM or earlier for a 9:00 AM open.

:welcome: to posting on the thread!

Thank you for adding your past experiences and the helpful suggestion.

I have a dilemma. Right now I have a Yacht Club room booked with an annual Passholder discount. I really want a king bed and have yet to have that request ever fulfilled at a hotel at Disney yet. I was considering switching to the Beach Club villas one-bedroom where I'll get my king. But the price of the room is over double and my boyfriend thinks we should save the money and stay put where we are. I've never stayed at either and I'm a little nervous about the construction also happening at the Yacht Club. Any advice?

Personally, I would save the money and stay at the YC. Make a request for a king bed your only request. If you don't, visit the front desk to see if there are any king bed rooms available during your stay. If it is still no, use the money you saved to treat yourself to something special to help ease your disappointment.

I think the work on the resort rooms is either complete or close to it, so hopefully there will just be a minimal impact to guests during daytime hours.

::yes::

Update - the Coke Freestyle machines at the YC no longer have real lemonade. They just serve the artificially sweetened variety. :( They seem to have less options now then when we were there in May.

I have some very, very sad news to share.

Last week, my dear friend Rebecca (HockeymomR), passed away. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after returning from a family trip to the Beach Club in August 2016. Throughout all of her treatments, she was brave and strong and had a positive spirit. Her mantra was "Just Keep Swimming", and she always had a smile on her face, no matter what struggles she faced.

She was a frequent poster here on the Beach Club FAQ forum for more than a decade, always willing to provide helpful info, a picture and friendship to others.

She had many "Disney friends" who were an important part of her life and who will miss her immensely.

I was fortunate to share two trips to the Beach Club with her as one of her roommates. Our friendship extended beyond our mutual interest in Disney. We spent the past few months frequently talking about our day, sharing pictures, exchanging encouragement and love.

The world has lost a very kind soul.

While she was in hospice for her final days, I wrote a letter about our friendship and emailed it to Rebecca and her husband. I wanted to explain how much Rebecca means to me and why. It was healing for me to write about how our deep bond developed throughout the years.

I have added the tribute to Rebecca in the Orange Banded Monkey trip report. That is probably the best place for any remembrances or condolences you want to share.

:grouphug:
I just saw this Dee, and I just wanted to say how sorry I am. You write beautifully of your friend.

Hi, I just returned from 5 nights at YC, and this is actually my first ever post. It really helped reading people's post in planning, so I thought I would share my experiences.

1. I was nervous over construction, but I could barely tell construction was going on. YC does a really good job in hiding the construction mess. Most if it was in the convention parking area. During the 5 days, I heard a little noise in the middle if the day, but it was hardly anything.

2. We were on the 4th floor facing the Admiral pool, it was a little far from lobby, SAB and the elevators over that way were not working.

3. This was the 1st time staying here, so I never saw the old rooms, but the renovated rooms are nice. We had two queen beds and a day bed. They were comfortable. The mattresses do slide on the platform bed. I liked the floor, but it does show dust and crumbs. And I found the full length mirror on my last day....LOL....it is on the back side of a closet door which I just never noticed. The temperature of the room was 68 and it was cold, which was fine with me.

4. The new market place was disappointing, not that many options and just used it for the refillable mugs. We walked over to the BC Marketplace where there is a lot more food options.

5. When I arrived on the 27th, the globe was in the lobby.....then it disappeared the next day :( never to return during my stay.

6. Mousekeeping was not that great compared to my other Disney resort stays. I noticed some days that the floor was sweeped, or it took till 4:00 to clean the room. There were tons of cleaning carts in the hallways all day.

Overall, my family and I enjoyed our stayed at YC and would definitely stay there again. I was originally staying at BC but changed after the summer discounts came out and saved a lot of money to switch....which I'm so glad I did. YC is less crowded then BC and smaller (i think) you just can't beat that location!

I would post some pictures, but I can't figure out how to attach a picture to post.

Captain's Grille-

A friend who is there now is reporting that he is being told the end date for work on the Captain's Grille will be mid-December. He said the name of the restaurant would be changing, the menu will be changing and that it would be sharing the Crews Cup lounge.

Hmmmmm. Sharing a kitchen with crew's Cup? Or melding with it? Didn't someone say that Ale and Compass would be incorporated too? If so, this is one big restaurant!

I was just in the YC lobby a few minutes ago and the CM told me that when the globe came back from being repaired the work wasn't done right. So they sent it back out to be fixed and it should be back in another week or so. I also asked about the Ale and Compass Lounge and she said it is going to be back in its original location. They have been told it will be open by late fall. I laughed and said that probably means Dec 1st. ;) The CM hadn't heard any rumors about the lobby being redecorated.

From the looks of the menus for the two location it looks like they are sharing the same kitchen. They both serve prime rib. My favorite shrimp tacos moved from the Crews Cup menu to the Captains Grille menu. So did the shaved beef sandwich, which is another favorite. The Captain's Grille has a good size lunch menu while the Crews Cup has just a couple of entrees.

We ate dinner in the Captain's Grille on Saturday night. We both had the prime rib and it had a really good flavor. The meat could have been a little more tender. But otherwise it was good. We had the nicest waiter, which always makes things more enjoyable. :)

So excited to be coming back this fall. Got everything finalized today! Visiting the BC after our cruise 10/28-11/1. Can't wait to be home again! :woohoo:Now I'm just going to cross my fingers for a room discount!

:welcome: back

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

Just booked our first stay at YC. A very last minute long weekend for DH and I (and our first to WDW without kids) for July 21-24. We usually go Poly for the monorail with the kids and enjoyed a split stay with BC in January. Looking forward to checking out a new to us resort! Any tips for getting the best location - we have lagoon view booked and would like to be in a renovated room close to the marketplace and stormalong bay.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

A request of "Near Lobby Elevators" would put you in the are nearest Stormalong Bay and the Marketplace.

:goodvibes

You may, of course, link to the trip report. And I will add the suite pictures to that post. I know it was hard for me to find pictures before we went so I want to help out.

:thanks:

Final payment day is Monday, all FPs and ADRs made for me and the other four families that are going with us, beach house on Anna Maria Island for afterwards is booked and paid for, and now looking at the three nights on the Dark Side on the way back to Orlando. Oh yeah, and flights home. LOL.

We have made a change to our dates - they are August 17th to 25th. :)

Mickey is in the giant golf ball on my ticker! Finally! I'm a tiny bit excited.

I'll make the change to the list.

:dogdance: on the progress of your Mickey slider!

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the Crew's Cup menu has been updated as of last week. No more truffle fries, the mussel appetizer, and steak frites.

:welcome: to posting here.

Thank you so much for the info, although I think a lot of people will be disappointed by the menu changes.

:sad2:

That's super disappointing. DD's fave drink is lemonade and I hate giving her the artificial sweetener. I was excited to be able to give her something else this trip. Thanks for the heads up:thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the heads up on your trip report. I'll check it out, and if you don't mind, could I add a link on Page 1, Post 16, where I include review and trip report info?

Also, I would love it if you would add your pictures of the 2BR Suite here:

Beach Club Deluxe, Suites, VP and Presidential Rooms

:thanks:

I wanted to say I added some pictures of room 4557 meant to do this a few days ago but forgot to say something

page 935-937

We are hoping for a room with 2 queen beds and a day bed-- does that still exist in the refurbished rooms? What is the best way to make that request? Thanks.

:welcome: to the thread!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1. September? Which resort- BC or YC?

Yes, there should be rooms with 2 Queens and a Daybed. If there are more than 2 of you on the reservation, you should automatically receive a room with 2 Queen Beds
(I think- has anyone with 3 in their party been given a King bed room with daybed assignment?)

The best way would be for you or your travel agent to call Disney's Central Reservations Office and make "Room with Daybed, please" as your only request.

:cool1:

We have two rooms booked at BC end of Aug to early Sept. We stayed there last year also and it was so perfect! Last year, our TA requested a king room & 2 queens (connecting) and we received just that. This year I asked her to make the same request. When I looked at out online check-in info online, it says our request is connecting rooms. Do I need to somehow make a separate request for the king room/two queens room?

:welcome: to posting here.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

Yes, you or your travel agent will have to make the request for one king room, one with two queens through Disney's Central Reservations Office.

See above for telephone number.

Joing this thread! We are headed to Beach Club 2/3/18-2/10/18! Excited already!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list.
