Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

To anyone who's at BC/YC/BCV right now or checking in within the next couple days...

DH and I are just driving from our cruise in Miami to check into BCV (arrive later this afternoon, around 3-4pm likely, and check out on Jan 7)

In our suitcases we have alcohol we won't drink (got it free on cruise, one each of vodka, rum and blended whisky). We can't take it home for family since we're flying and it would be over our customs limit anyway.

If you are a big drinker, or are drinking home, please PM me to make arrangements to meet at BCV for the exchange and it's all yours.

What an awesome offer!!!

Hope someone takes you up on it.

:drinking1

If you are able to help out on a recent request without being inconvenienced, can you find out the ingredients in the Jingle Bell drink at the Crews Cup Lounge:

If anyone is there now, can I ask a favor? If you're in Crews Cup, can you snap a photo of the drink menu? I'm looking for the special holiday Jingle Bell drink. I had it twice and it was delicious. Wish I had an ingredient list so I could try it at home.

Thank you!
Mary

HAVE A FANTASTIC TRIP!!!

:woohoo:

18 days! So excited for our first BCVs stay. Any tips or tricks from anyone who recently stayed is appreciated :)

Hey Dee

I'll be at the BC Jan 12-16 and again in March with a split stay 19-22 BLT and 22-25 BC

Got it! Thanks for clarifying your dates.

:goodvibes

Never updated our final plans here - just realized! 2/18-2/22 at BCV, 2/22 - 2/26 at CR! SOOOO excited! thanks :D

I'll update the Be Our Guest list.

:cool1:

Hi Dee! I never posted our next stay: we have YC club level May 6-13. Booked with the bounceback when we were there in December. As always, looking forward to being at YC. Not looking forward to the BIG 6-0 I'll be celebrating on the trip. :rolleyes1

Got it!

If you're going to hit a milestone, I can't think of a better place to do it!

party:

just booked BC for 2017 7/8-7/14. Will have been 3 years since our last disney vacation at CBR.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:thumbsup2

You have me listed three times under August. I think it's because I had posted the possibility of booking. The third Disneycal listed is correct with the dates, the first two can be erased.

Thanks for letting me know. I have corrected the listings.

::yes::

I have no takers yet. If I don't have interest from someone on this thread by tonight, I'll post a separate thread making the offer in the main resorts section. (edit: making that post now)

The other thing I have up for grabs (as of our checkout on Jan 7th) is a folding drying rack. Fits perfectly in the tub or shower of a BCV 1 bedroom, and gives you somewhere to hang wet bathing suits other than the taps. Yeah, no expandable clothesline. PM me if you want it.

Just returned from an amazing 5 night stay at beach club. My comments will echo a couple of PPs:
Well had a few surprises upon arrival, we got an upgraded room from a standard room to a deluxe room, and my God it is huge compared to a normal room we are in room 4557 with club access, finding out the resort is only at 50% capacity
Congrats on that upgrade! We were really surprised at how quiet the resort and parks were. We travelled Christmas week last year and it was a very different feel. 50% capacity would explain that. The pool was very quiet, except for 1 afternoon, (and temps hit mid 80s, so it wasn't the weather.), boats and walking to Epcot and HS were very quiet. We never had to stand on a bus or wait for an ADR, which was typical last year.
It's December 26 and we still have not seen or experienced the infamous crowds. Hollywood Studios was busy on Xmas eve, but there were several shows going on to draw in people and the park is cut down in size due to construction. Still not bad. We used FP and saw Star Wars and Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM.

Went to AK yesterday to see my nephew (character attendant) and do a few rides. Busy there, but not crazy packed.

It's been a really nice trip!
I agree about reasonable waits (with rope drop, FP, and breaks midday planned.) I felt crowds were actually lower than when we have travelled in July. Long park hours were awesome, too!

I've always wanted to go over Christmas (teacher), but the crowds have always intimidated me. I'm glad you are having a great time!

Maybe next year will be quiet like this one? I am a teacher, and have loved this time frame.

We are just back from a quick 4 night trip, from December 20-24. Overall, we had a fun time, and packed so much into our 3 1/2 park days. We stayed at the Beach Club for the first time, and our reservation was for a standard room. We loved this location, and walked many times to and from Epcot, and once to and from Hollywood Studios. Using the International Gateway is amazing, and is such a more relaxed feel from the main entrance.

I wanted to share a bit about a standard room, and 2 different locations that we had.

While we were still at the airport in the morning before our flight, I got a text that our room, 3722, was ready. My only request had been for a full balcony. We had 5 people on our reservation originally, but at the last minute our 2 older kids opted to not go, so it ended up just being 3 of us. I was able to find a picture of our room view, and it was not good. While this room had a balcony, you really wouldn't want to sit on it because you were essentially on the roof. So, I called the number provided, and just asked if there was anything with less of a roof view. I also mentioned that we could either do a King or 2 Queen room, since we were now a party of 3. We would also go without a balcony, and wouldn't be arriving until late afternoon. The person I spoke with was not only not helpful at all (her response was "Well you DID book a roof or parking lot view"), her attitude really put me off. She said that there wasn't anything better as a standard room. We agreed to just live with it, as we wouldn't be in our room a ton.

The location of 3722 is generally good, once you find the staircase located by Cape May, but what was vastly the worst part was that you could hear the noise from the bus stop out front constantly. Because the parks were open late and also very early, it was crazy annoying. We even brought our own fan, and we could still hear that loud bus brake noise.

In the morning, I went downstairs at about 8 a.m. and asked if there was anything else available that was quieter. The hotel didn't feel full at all, and sure enough, a much better room was available immediately, and we moved our things to room 3681, which was also a standard room with a full balcony and 2 queens and a daybed. This room was great! Nice view, above Cape May with a staircase right around the corner. Very quiet, except during the afternoon when the pool party was going on, but we thought that was fun.

I have no idea why they put us in that first room and wouldn't move us when this much nicer one was available in the same category. A huge miss on their part, because it really turned us off from staying there again.

Service was below average. Our room was not cleaned at all. The first full day they came so late that we were getting ready to head out to dinner so we just grabbed fresh towels from them. The second day they never came at all, but we just let it go because we were leaving in the morning. Our safe malfunctioned one day, and it took close to an hour for a manager to come to fix it, which is so frustrating to just sit and wait for them.

I get it that it's a busy time of year, but after paying premium holiday prices to stay there, we expected better. We are not people with unrealistic expectations, and this certainly didn't ruin our trip by any means, but clearly they have some service issues there.

We were lucky to have some nice warm days, and that pool is great! Loved the sand bottom, and that it has shallow areas for little kids, but also deep areas.

I've included a couple pictures of 3722 first, and then 3681.

I know this post led to a long conversation already. I just want to add that we feel you on that first view. We were in 3716, same view. The bus noise didn't bother me, but I think we were a bit further away from the bus stop. The view was actually hilarious. We stuck with our room, as we wanted the full balcony, and I was feeling a bit guilty about the great rate I booked last minute. Boy do I wish I had found a staircase. Looooong walk to elevators. I was really missing Yacht Club's shorter walks (in my past experience). Where is the Cape May staircase? I found one staircase, but quickly realized I wasn't supposed to use it... laundry and food carts on each level at exit, it looked like a work staircase.

We had similar issues with housekeeping... no toiletries or toilet paper ever left, had to call for those to be replaced, incomplete towel sets left. Housekeeping always arrived after 2:00, which was tough, as we typically wanted to nap at that time. This has been the case on my other stays, too. I had to call one night at 5, and they sent someone right up to service the room as it had been skipped.

I loved the Beach Club decor and found the room size felt slightly bigger. That could be my imagination. Although I would give a slight edge to YC, I think it just has to do with our former room locations, which were not standard views. I, too, had only experienced standard views at Polynesian and Boardwalk, both of which have been far superior to the roof view. I have learned my lesson and will book a garden view from now on.

Speaking of booking.... we did book our first ever Bounce Back! Our dates are a bit tentative, but currently we are booked 7/15-7/20 at BC (YC not available for those dates) in a GARDEN view!

I know which employee staircase your're talking about, I think. It was right past our original room. That would have been handy for those rooms. We tried that one first, but realized it was for employees. This other staircase is in the water side of the hotel, in the hallway that leads past the side of Cape May facing the pool (so not where you enter Cape May), on the way to Martha's Vineyard. It wasn't labeled on the first floor that I recall, but it did have a little carpeted alcove where the door was. There were some drinking fountains near it. It was great. We never used the elevators again. You do get a real waft of crab legs, though, when you open the door coming from upstairs!

Can someone take a photo of the first page of the bar menu at Crews Cup for me? Had the Jingle cocktail and can't recall the ingredients. Thanks!
Mary

Thanks to the lady who posted the picture of the prototype for the new room décor at YC. It's very interesting to get a glimpse of it. The night sky shower curtain looks great. I agree with @jenny105 that the theming could use some Disney touches. I like the current over-the-top nautical theming at YC, and hope the new décor will also be strongly themed both nautically and Disney-ly. I hope to stay at YC sometime in 2018, month still TBD.

Happy New Year!

I know some of the regulars realize this but it bears repeating for our newer readers:

ALWAYS go down to the lobby at the resort and speak with a live CM if you are having any type of problem ON SITE (@Resort, @park, @disney Restaurant). The folks working on site want to help you and they often can expedite solutions a lot more efficiently than the phone operators.

I'm also not sure what is going on with the quality of customer service on the phone but I highly recommend completing the surveys at the end of the call. With the decrease in the quality of Disney phone customer service it's almost like the teacher has left the room and the students go ape and become feral because they know no one is watching. Those call surveys at the end of your call sort of serve as a tranquilizer gun whose darts eventually take out the problem operators.

I'm very sorry to hear about the Mousekeeping problems at the resort. If it were me I'd fire off an email to guest services AND the resort manager sharing your thoughts and concerns about the issues that you experienced during your stay.

here is the contact information from page 1:

email wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

or send a letter to:

Walt Disney World Guest Communications
Executive Offices
Post Office Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830-0040

When you write or email, please include your name, address, phone number and email address.

If it is a comment specific to the Yacht & Beach Club, you can write to the General Manager of the resort (perhaps copy Guest Communications as well):

Cosmo Kapoor, General Manager
Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts
1800 EPCOT Resort Boulevard
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Another tip I'd like to pass along is to write your requests/needs for the room on the envelope that you are using to pass along a tip to Housekeeping. I also use that tip envelope to write some words of thanks or encouragement for a job well done by the Mousekeepers. I'm not quite sure what was going on with the decrease in room cleaning during the holidays... that is not cool! Definitely contact the hotel management and Guest Services to let them know what the deal was during your stay.

And... while we are still feeling a little "tipsy" I'd like to pass along this little gem. Take the sticky part of a post it note and cut it to size to leave a strip on your gift cards or your Disney rewards cards. You can write the balance on this strip of paper so you can keep track of how much is left on the card. Knowing that amount takes the stress away from dealing with the cards and their remaining balances.

Have a happy New Year everyone!

Thanks Ninja mom! I went ahead and emailed. Does anyone else feel guilty making complaints? And great tip about the sticky notes. I definitely would have benefitted from that this last trip. Managing kids' and my own gift cards lasts about a day, then I give up and just pretend each kid has whatever they think they have and pull out the first card I find.

Happy New Year to all!!

Now, sadly we won't be visiting this year, although the honeymoon in August/September definitely swung the wife into the "frequent visitor" category!!

A question for while we're stuck in the UK though... what else is in the goats cheese scrambled eggs at Cape May cafe?

Not the 4 cheese and chorizo one... apparently there is another one that had goats cheese and something else in it. Anyone know what the something else is?

Thanks!

Yes, thanks @Ninja Mom for the sticky note tip! As for managing kids' or multiple GCs, a Sharpie easily solves that issue! I label (and save) *all* my cards - even the ones I combine on disneygiftcard.com - just in case something needs to be refunded or I have some other problem. The only time I've had Sharpie smear/rub off is if I had sunscreen on my hands.

I have been using the Sharpie initially, but forgot to pack one this trip, so after initial purchase, I was juggling receipts. I felt untethered with no Sharpie (typically wound with Duct tape around pen for emergency duct tape use) this trip!

Untethered? I think I would have felt panic! :lmao: And oh my! I love the duct tape idea!!! This is why I don't think I could go bagless (as long as kids are in tow). The time I choose to leave something out of my bag is the time that I end up really needing it.

I hadn't thought about rolling duct tape onto a Sharpie pen! That's brilliant... Duct tape is especially useful for taking care of cranky children or other members of your traveling party. I don't know if there is a purse that would be big enough to fit all the duct tape that I would need for one of my family Disney trips.

I would like to suggest that when tying crabby people up with duct tape and hiding them in the room it's important to leave yet another note for Mousekeeping that tells them that the muffled whining they are hearing from behind the bathroom door is just an ipod that has been left on and it's playing the song of your people. Hopefully that will get them to move along a little faster when servicing the room. It can be awkward when the police have to come to free people from their punishments . :rolleyes1

I'm arriving today, first time staying at the Yacht Club. Outside of the parks, what are the must do's/cool things to do/eat within walking distance of the resort? I need the inside scoop on what's available in our downtime! Thanks in advance!

I don't know if I have mentioned this before but one of my favorite things to do during down time is to exact my revenge on the whining, cranky people in my traveling party and chase them around the room with a giant roll of duct tape.

Other things to do that are close to the resort are the mini golf courses right across the street from the Swan and Dolphin resort complex.

Here is a link that will take to to a site that explains each course:
