Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

We just returned from a quick weekend stay at BC for our first NYE at Epcot experience. We had an amazing time!!! It was strange being at BC in the "winter" as we usually stay during Labor Day weekend and Stormalong Bay was calling my name big time. Unfortunately, I neglected to pack our swimsuits as it was 40 degrees on our first day and the weather was looking to be chilly the whole weekend for us Floridians. Sunday would have been a perfect pool day as it ended up being in the 80's but you live and learn. I should have known better!!

We finally got a room away from the main entrance which I was thrilled about!! We always get placed in a room there and it is so loud in the middle of the night. I ended up not making any room requests as usual and somehow this time we ended up being assigned room 4701! It was a standard room with a juliet balcony and a view of SAB (and some roof, but who cares - I could see SAB!!!). I was more than ecstatic with our view and room location. As always we had a wonderful stay and we fall in love with the BC more and more every time. I can't wait to be back in September!

I will attach a post/review I wrote in a NYE thread in case it helps anyone for future planning. Reading people's posts here and in other threads really helped make this a wonderful and stress-free experience for us.

We had the best time at Epcot for NYE! I have been wanting to attend for years but was always weary of the crowds and leaving at the end of the night. On January 1, 2016 I sat on the couch with DH showing him videos from Epcot the night before and I said "next year, we're going"...and we did!

We are huge BC fans and I made sure to book our stay there for ease of returning "home" after the festivities. We planned our Epcot park day for the 30th so we could thoroughly enjoy the park and rides. The 31st we took it easy, ate a late breakfast at the resort and then walked around Disney Springs for a while. We went back to the resort, napped, showered, and headed to dinner at Cape May Cafe at 6:45pm. I originally had an ADR for San Angel Inn but decided (after lots of reading on the boards) that dinner at the resort would be a better idea for us rather than fighting through the crowds. We headed into Epcot at around 8:15pm with absolutely no line at International Gateway.

All I can say is...WOW! It was everything I expected and so much more. Was it busy? Yes! But completely organized! The streets were taped off with arrows and cast members were directing "traffic" all night to avoid chaos and people walking into each other. The vibe was incredible, so much fun but tons of families enjoying together. We loved every moment of it! Italy was amazing and although we checked out every stage, we spent the majority of our time there. Like previous posters stated, the lines for drinks and restrooms were insane! I was glad we planned it like we did and only came for the night time festivities, I think had we have been there all day tired and fighting the crowds it may not have been as enjoyable. We lucked out and found a little store in Italy that was selling beer and were able to get drinks with zero line :worship: We held out for restrooms until we got back to the room, there was no way I was waiting in those lines.

The fireworks were incredible! It was just a magical experience and Disney definitely does everything better!! We left once the music stopped at 1am and walked leisurely back to our room at the BC. I didn't check the time but I would say we were back to our room by 1:30am the latest.

We will definitely be back next year, this was hands down the best NYE I have ever had & DH agrees. He can't stop saying how awesome it was :)

Thank you all for your posts and past experiences as they helped us plan such a great evening!

We will be at the BC in 26 days with our first grandson's first visit to Disney! We have a 7 pm flight home and I am wondering when and who we should ask for a late check out? He is only 10 months old and if we can get a nap in late morning it may just be a life saver for all of us!
I remember reading they only grant so many late check outs so I want to do whatever I can to help my odds of getting one.
Thanks!

Check with the front desk the day before you check out. They will try to accommodate you based on turnover for your departure day. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I always ask for late check out when I check in and never had a problem. I asked once on the last day and was told that other people had already asked and they couldn't allow the late check out!!!

Thanks to you and pcfriar, do you ask at the front desk or mouse keeping? I feel like I had read somewhere that you need to ask mousekeeping but I didn't really pay attention because we never had the need before.

This forum is always so helpful so I have a quick question...Does Flower & Garden make Epcot more crowded on weekends the way Food & Wine does? We had scheduled our Epcot day on a Saturday and I'm wondering if I should change it or if we'll be fine.

Thank you! I made the switch :) But if a Yacht Club room pops up I'll be confused again.

Thanks for your help - and I'm enjoying your trip report, too!

We are total YC regulars and tried the BC last summer as their rooms were newly refurbed and for the same price, we thought, why not? Love the new BC rooms and for $400 less, I would stay at the BC for sure! Really nicely refurbed room! We do like the YC side better but waiting patiently for the rooms to be updated! You really can't go wrong on the BC side.

Thanks you! I dislike thinking about checkout before we have even checked in but am hoping for a restful last day with my grandson.

Yes- front desk. We were in our room on the last day when we had a late check out (noon), mousekeeping knocked on the door to clean the room and I just told her we had a late check out. So she came back later.

We're checking in in a few days for our first BC stay, and I have two last minute questions:
1) We will be arriving early (9:30?) and taking MDE. We have an Epcot day planned. I don't expect our room to be ready, but we may have a carry on or two that we don't want to take to the park. Will the desk hold things for us? We're flying with little ones so we'll have toys and such.

2) Are we allowed to bring floaties for the kids from home? We have both Puddle Jumpers and inflatables. Or are they available there? We'll see how the weather is, but I don't want to have to buy one or hold the 1 y/o in arms the whole time if we do go in.

Thanks!!! We're excited for our first stay!

You can leave bags with Bell services. Very easy! The pool has life vests available. I can't recall if they have infant ones, but toddler and up are all there. We actually switched to using a life vest with our youngest instead of floaties after seeing her enjoy the ones at the resort.

Request when you check in at the front desk. If they say they can't accommodate, ask again the next day. The latest check out I'm ever given is 1:00 p.m., as they need to get rooms cleaned for 3:00 p.m. check ins. It will be more difficult to get, if they are/will be at capacity.

On my departure day, I always place the privacy card on the outside of the door, till I actually check out, so that Housekeeping does not attempt to enter. When I do depart, I move the privacy card back inside the room and advise a housekeeper working the neighboring rooms, that the room was vacated.

The Solarium can be a nice quiet place to wait, till you depart for the airport. The lobby can be somewhat hectic and noisy, at times. The exterior door of the Solarium leads out to the front drive.

@natebenma - I emailed you pics of the January recreation calendar since I didn't see them appear here yet. Let me know if they don't come through okay and I'll resend.

Thank you so much! I had actually forgotten all about the Activities Schedule, so I appreciate you thinking about while you are on vacation.

I must still be in holiday mode. When I copied the calendar into my files, it said I already had a file with that name. Because I called it 2016. D'OH!

A pretty decent lineup of movies for beginning of the year!

Does anyone have pictures of the ceramics activity at the resort that they are willing to share for me to add to the first page resort activities posting?

::yes::

Jingle drink recipe from Crew's Cup

The holiday menus were gone, but the very nice bartender knew exactly what drink we were talking about and could easily recite all the ingredients from memory. Guess she's made a few over the holidays...

Start with a pinch of cinnamon
Add 1.25 oz of Crown Apple
Next is Cranberry juice
And finally, top with angry orchard cider

We are leaving Thursday for our first stay and so excited. I'm assuming I know the answer to this already, but want to be sure...

We are staying through Monday and then moving over to stay at Universal. We plan to go to AK early Monday morning before catching a shuttle or Uber over to Universal. I'm assuming that we can just check out early and leave our bags with the front desk and then return to BC after our time at AK and retrieve the bags before catching our car to Universal.
